- This video is more of a step by step install guide for anyone wishing to install this type of screen in their Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 but at the end we also do some initial testing - we have some problems with the control of the original car OE touchscreen that we need to investigate !

Just want to thank you for the effort you are putting in here - many of us love our LR4's across the pond but would love to update the infotainment! Appreciate the patience, hopefully soon a fully functional system will come to market.
Bear in mind that for the Bosch system i think these systems work better... the early systems with the Denso unit seem to be the bigger problem.
Great vids addressing a real problem issue for those like me who intends keeping my disco 4 as long as possible. The 2 products you are trying out are both Chinese units with so-so functionality. Maybe you could consider trying out more mainstream manufactuers, such as Alpine. For instance, Alpine produces a slot-in 7" replacement for the existing unit (such as the iLX-W650BT, and others) , and it also does larger screen units which are suspended in front of ther current unit, similar to the previous unit you tested (the 9" ILX-F903D for example). It may turn out that they do a better job than the two you are testing. And maybe other providers do the same - Pioneer, Sony, Sanyo, etc.
Very nice video! Your videos inspire me. You have that enthusiastic way of being upgrading the Land Rovers ! Would love to see this on LR3 !

Great i have been looking at these for a while now, the similar one i bought for my Mazda you can "learn the steering controls in the settings
I did see this menu and had a quick play with no results - I need to play with things a little more and consult with the supplier.
I only have the basic non-touch screen unit with no GPS and back circuit board which you imply may be able to use the other cable for power input. This would mean that there would be less functionality. However, loosing the existing panel above the CD would remove the "Menu" button used for altering the internal digital clock.
Can you confirm with the supplier that your thoughts are correct and how they manage the clock adjustment please.

There's some similar units appearing for the Freelander 2 as well. Some in the UK as well as China. Similar videos would probably be very popular
You guys should do a video with just the CarPlay module that retains the OEM screen and takes over the nav button.
CarPlay is honestly the only feature I want. And it would update the whole truck tremendously.

There’s some units available through AliExpress which I suspect are the same units as navtool.
It’s a module that’s installed behind the screen and the original display and head unit are retained.
I think you can scroll to AUX using the button on right hand side of steering wheel.
Hey Guys. Impressed with your skills. Look, we here at Streamline Auto Sounds have the same situation with the OEM screen not being able to function. We are curious if you guys found the way to success with the touch screen function on the OEM screen image?
I think I check 4 times a day for new videos of this display upgrade series 😂 Have you seen the display that replaces just the environmental system? It’s pretty cool but not sure I’d spend $600 USD on it.

These work great if you have an android phone. PITA for iPhone to be consistent. Have had one of these in my Boss 302 for a year. Want to love it. Still can't get hotspot going on it with my phone which has made me hesitant about installing one in my lr4
Another brave video but still it seems to be a flawed product. No doubt you will sort out the yellow screen and lack of functions…but so, I don’t think I would be buying one just yet! Good work men…Part 25 coming soon! 😃😃😃😃😃
Guys this little flex cable with 4 used and many dead end pins - it's definitely for touch screen simulation. It should work. Probably it needs extra calibration before use - calibration of fake touch in original unit.

I have a 2006 LR3 HSE with the nav screen. My question is will the tesla screen (not the trim) work ? From which website did you get it? Since your not selling them?

Has this touch screen been resolved yet? As someone looking to keep their D4 (2013) for a few more years an upgrade like this with apple carplay is something i will seriously consider

Looks nice and makes me want to get an LR4 again. On the touch screen issue….do you think the volume controls at the bottom of the touch screen could control the part of the touchpad that won’t work?

Hello, lots of love from Australia. I’ve been a long time subscriber. I have a Discovery 4 that does not have any sat nav. It just has a small lcd screen in the middle. So what Tesla style screen would I be asking for ? Thank you in advance

Screen Could need recalibration . In the evoque with bosch system there is a hidden menu for calibration . Changing the screen to the new one might have put out the screen calibration .
Yeah I was thinking a calibration may fix it, in the hidden menu. Seams at least one ribbon cable isn’t perfect though
Nice install, was easier than I would have thought. Hopefully the bugs get fixed.
The install was not too bad... lets see if we can resolve the few issues.
Looks to be great upgrade you guys have the patience of a saint. LOL I would definitely consider it once the bugs are all ironed out.

So if you have one of these head units fitted (or any android unit) you'd be able to install and run the IID obd reader through the head unit?
Good question - carplay does not deem the GAP app to be "driving friendly" so not via carplay but possibly via the android platform.

Did you ever get the touch screen to work properly?
I saw this unit on an Aussie facebook forum, colours were all good and the OEM functions all worked, such as 4*4 info screen. So it can work, and you re probably not far away from success.
I wonder if that is for the later Bosch unit = but i think we are close...

How is the auto-dimming on that thing? Usually, on these Android units, it's like riding with the sun on your dash at nigh time. Have to manually dim it every day/night.

It was just a quick test at the end of the week - i need to spend some time pressing more buttons. Its a good point you make that i need to double check.
Were you able to install an external microphone or use the car's original microphone? the built-in Microphone of tesla multimedia is very bad :(

Hi, I have a LR4 SE, year 2015. Can I simply replace - rewire my original navi screen broken with another original LR4 navi screen from wrecked car without any software change or some adfitional "diagnostic magic" needed to make it working?
it should work - they are not coded to the car - from my experience...

Lee Yates at UK lights modification says he can supply them with upgraded software that makes them fully functional with the d4, but he wants £1000 for them. Personally I think that's too much, have you tried to upgrade the software on your one.thanks Sid.

I like the idea of the tesla screen but don't like the look, the centre console is part of the reason I went for a 4 rather than a 3. Personally I think upgrading the existing unit to have carplay and android auto would be a winner allround.

I Did reply to your last video, but will add a bit more info here. I did work with the manufacturer Merry-way in getting the Bosch touchscreen to work. All done via weechat , and they sent me firmware updates on the fly. If you want Merryways email let me know ;) . I think this will solve the issue on this screen.
Hi Luke - I have been working with Jenny at Merryway on this too - its more difficult as they do not have the Denso system in China as the D4 only made it to china later
@@L663 To be fair they didnt have a RRS screen when i purchased their 8inch version . They was sending me firmware revisions and i was testing it for them. Because the actual touch screen is working but the touch is not in the correct spot they should be able to correct it for you with a update. This is what was wrong with mine at first, you would touch the left hand side it it would open something completely wrong. I would suggest pushing them all the time, as soon as they realize it might take a bit more effort they will block you and you wont hear from them again.

I think that is what the send connector cable is for as you just connect the power / earth and basic wiring

It looks interesting - but I thought I saw two long ribbon cable slots on the back of the new back panel and you only connected one ribbon cable ???

Hi John - we connected 2 ribbon cables - the wide one and the narrow one.
No instructions at all - this is quite common now with these units !

Dont worry - we have a new Disco 3 rear spoiler coming - wireless phone holder for cars with fridge.... Sorry for all the new Defender stuff but we wanted to get ahead of the competition on this.... I look at our sales data and Disc 3/4 and Freelander 2 make up a lot of our sales !

Is there an upgrade in these systems for the Denso units? I bought a LR4 for the capability and luxury. I want something newer but can’t give up my 4x4 screen options.
I have not looked at this again recently. They are always updating the offerings available.
