Is it still better than current Disney offerings.
This was great!
Bit of an aside, but with Miles being an anomaly and the film having an immigration theme, does that make Miles akin to a Dreamer?
Meta narrative on the fact, that the public doesn't accept miles as spìdermañ. He is just miles. It's clever.
Thanks SD! Appreciate your analysis and these short bits are easy to digest too. Isn’t YT also pushing Shorts really hard now as well? Ty again! 👍
I really couldn't put my finger on it, but you just the nail on the head. Dang man... really could've been a great movie.
That Donald Glover cameo was perfect!
Good video. I will agree that this movie could have been much shorter. Puss N Boots the Last Wish is an amazing animated movie that was a sequel/spinoff of Shrek. That film clocked in at an hour and thirty minutes and managed to tell a very good complete story. While I enjoyed this movie a lot, this movie very much was a ton of setup that banks on the third part being good. And while I have faith in Lord and Miller, as a writer you never want to take your audience for granted. Even the Back to the Future movies while split in parts, had effective bookends for each of their films. It seems like Lord and Miller recognized this hence they retitled this movie to Across the Spider-verse instead of part one. All in all, I enjoyed this movie, a solid 8.5/10. But it could have been much more focused and gotten the same result. The first Spider-verse movie is a much tighter, focused story.
You should review The Chosen
I appreciate the review. I also want to thank you for saving me 2 hrs and 15 mins.of my life.
I hear that's a couple common complaints of this film, its messy and too long. I didn't see the first one in theaters, because I have very little interest in Miles Morales as a character. I eventually watched it after people kept telling me I should. I had fun with it, but didn't like how they treated the 2 versions of traditional Peter Parker in the film. The way the plot of the movie in the follow up, is presented in the trailer, I feel like we're getting yet another Multiverse of Madness story, over 2 movies. Not to mention, DC doing the same basic plot in The Flash soon too. Its going to sour everyone on the multiverse, which is a shame, because there's quite a few stories that can be effectively told, that don't have the same plot.
I came from the future to say that this film did NOT win the 2023 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Great review. I fell asleep in the movie, so bored. It won't be rewatchable like the first, which i loved!
Great video! .Clean and with brevity , something lacking in a lot of films today. My favorite film this year was SISU, A Ninety minutes of a fun action pack movie. I like my anime/cartoons how I like my action films, Fun, fast and not to complicated.
How much longer is it looking like the WGA strike will go?
Wait, so miles is the villian.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Spider man is not a guardian of the multiverse. He is a working class guy who became a super hero on a budget. He is a street level hero that protects his neighborhood, and grew to the whole city. As he gets older, he is able to hang with other heroes like the Fantastic Four, or Avengers, but he is always a kid from Queens.
I like alternate history ideas. Gwen Stacy gaining spider man abilities is a fun idea to explore in her own story. Miles Morales can work as a Robin/Nightwing, or Green Arrow to Parker's Batman, but not as a multiverse replacement. There are way to many derivatives at this point, and Marvel insists on throwing them all together. It's so rampant that even creating a What If...? about a similar character that is self contained is a drain on the original character.
That's why I enjoyed the first one so much, the mentor/mentee dynamic was really fun and something new to add to spiderman stories. This new installment feels like it's trying to prove that spiderman could be literally anything, but at what point does it stop being that and become something else entirely? I liked Mikes as the mentee role but now they're using him to prove a point and it's not fun.
So we're ignoring the "trans kids" crap from the trailer and discuss this movie like that didn't happen? What happened to looking out for children in this crazy times?
