We just did a day trip to Florence from Rome last week!!! We left Rome at 6:30am for Pisa. Saw the leaning tower, clicked pics and grabbed a quick bite at Posto before taking the 10:30 am train to Florence. We walked to the Duomo, around Ponte Vechhio from the back and did Uffizi from 1pm to 3pm. I had marked previously which ones I wanted to see so it was easy. From Ufizzi we walked across Santa Croce to a bag store called Moretti and I bought 2 fabulous leather bags. Walked to Pino’s and sat there till 4:30pm for a late lunch of some amazing sandwiches, coffee and aperol. We then walked to Accademia at 5:30pm where I saw my 2 favourite pieces, Cello by Amatti and David. Finally walked to Mercato Centrale for a lovely dinner and dessert before taking our train back to Rome at 8:30pm. It was a crazy day, lot of walking and it was dazzling all through the day. But it was amazing as there were very little people because of the rain and lines at Ufizzi and Academia was short. I loved every bit of it. But next time I will take more time.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It sounds like you had a brilliant day. You definitely packed in a lot of sites, which is doable if you have a bit more time than I did in my video. I am sure it was tiring but also rewarding. Glad you had such a nice time!
@@rubynave322 we took the Frecciargento 8588 at 6:23am from Roma Termini arrival Pisa Centrale at 8:48. Get this atleast 2-3weeks in advance else prices shoot up. Buy a bus ticket immediately from the Tobacco store just in front of the main gate of the Pisa Centrale station. The bus LAM Rossa Park Peitrasantona departs just outside the main gate within minutes of the arrival of the train. If you catch that you can get early by 20mins and come to Florence earlier. Also, don’t buy the ticket from Pisa Centrale to Florence early. That price doesn’t fluctuate and it’s better to buy as per your time that you reach back. Elyssa, We are taking the Sunday, 5:10 am train to Florence from Rome arriving at 6:45 am. I was planning on doing your underground entrance out of the station. However, I'm now thinking I may grab us a taxi (to save us some steps) to take us to Ponte Santa Trinita for some good shots of Ponte Vechhio before the crowd. We have 9 am Academia tickets so I thought we'd walk up after. Your opinion...should we do those pics when the city is quiet OR Duomo area when it's relatively empty? 😆 Again, God bless you for your helpful videos! Such a joy to view them.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comments. Yes, you should avoid the underground to get out of the station if you want a taxi. Just walk straight out on ground level and you'll find the taxis there. Great idea to head to Ponte Vecchio early. I'd do it more for the light than for the lack of crowds. Of course anywhere you want pix and video super early in Florence will be lovely, again more for the light than the crowds. Just make sure to keep any eye on the time so you make it to the Accademia by 8:30AM. Have a great trip!
I had a grand daytrip to Florence from Rome last spring! Thank goodness the city attractions are so close to each other. Arrived early enough to check out cenacolo di'Sant Apollonia and la SS Anunziata di Firenzia before the Accademia. Spent 90 mins there then it was off to explore the Doumo complex including climbing up Giotto's tower and the museum. Pity the Baptistry mosaics were not in full view. No time for a sit down lunch so I got a sandwich and gelato before running off to spend 3.5 hours at the Uffizi. Got to hang out a bit at Piazza della Signoria and Piazza della Republica. Dinner was the local signature Lapredotto at Mercato Centrale and also bought some inexpensive leather souvenirs before catching the 8 pm train. It was a trip that needed some military precision to pull off! If I had to do it all over again, I would stay in Florence for 3 days, and that would allow me to do a day trip to Siena. It's very unfortunate as an American we simply don't get enough vacation time!
Wow that sounds like an amazing day trip - packed full of activities! I am glad you got to do so much but agree that it's a lot for one day and that it would be better to have more time to do all that you did. But I completely understand not having enough vacation time and wanting to see as much as possible in the short time you have. Great job!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I don't yet have a video about must-sees in the Uffizi Galleries, but I do have a page on the Florencewise website: www.florencewise.com/best-way-to-visit-the-uffizi.html
It’s very helpful content since we will be there in 2 weeks a day trip from Rome to Florence. Do you have a recommendation how to travel from Rome to Pisa and then Florence back to Rome for a day trip 😊 thank you.
I see you found the comments of another viewer helpful and perhaps answered your question. Most trains take about an hour to get from Florence to Pisa, so it's easy to go on your own. You could also take a tour if you want it all organized for you. gyg.me/P9gc2GIC
I just finished watching your informative video. I hadn’t really thought about a day trip to Florence before. It’s definitely worth considering. I love your Mandarina Duck backpack, such a great colour. Do you find it’s a good size for day tripping around Rome etc?
Thank you so much! And thanks for noticing my backpack - ha! Glad you like it. It is indeed the perfect size for me. I can fit all my camera gear in there, plus a battery pack, and still have room to pop in my sweater / scarf if I get hot. Mandarina Duck makes varying sizes of these backpacks but I love this size.
Perfect! Just the video I was looking for, you think is possible a day trip from Milano to Rome and Milano to Firenze?, I plan to go Italy this year and I will stay in Milano and your video gave me hope to do it 😂
Yes, you can do this day trip to Florence from anywhere nearby. That being said, Milan is not that close to Florence or Rome by train. Try using www.rome2rio.com to see distances between cities. These trips are doable but they would be long days!
Thanks for following me. Why are you apprehensive about the Vatican? This video may help: ruclips.net/video/jBUlLY5FYTE/видео.html I hope you have a great trip!
We will be in Rome in early September 2024. We will debark from the cruise ship on Sept 15 and pick up a shuttle that takes us to the train station, which we will want to take to Florence for a week. Is it too soon now to book Italy fast train to Florence. Should I book return tickets to Rome at the same time? Do you have any maps to share?
You can try booking tickets now although it may be too early. I have links in the description to Trainline where you can compare schedules and fares. When you do book, yes, you could book return tickets. September is peak peak season so I would book everything as much i advance as possible. I am not sure which maps you are referring to?
@@maureendennis8316 I have a link in the description where you can search with a map, entering your criteria such as neighborhood, budget, type of accommodation, etc. The search engine includes hotels and self-catering apartments. Here are a couple of our favorites: booking.stay22.com/romewise/j_lZDzFGlr booking.stay22.com/romewise/vH0uNm1O8c But as I said, with the search engine, you can search according to your specific criteria.
Hi! I purchased tickets for the Medici Chapels, do I need separate tickets to visit the San Lorenzo Basilica? Thank you for your content. It's been so helpful to watch your videos for our upcoming trip! Hugs from Arizona :)
Yes, you do. They are attached and related to each other, but each requires separate tickets. And they are both worth visiting if you have time! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind comments.
Is there any delivery service from airport to hotel in Rome? We plan to keep 1-2 luggage in hotel in Rome, so we can travel light from Fiumicino airport to Florence by train. After several days, we will return to that hotel in Rome.
I don't know of a delivery service such as you describe. You could use luggage storage at Termini station in Rome, or stop first at your Rome hotel and ask them to store your luggage for you while you go to Florence. It sounds like you want to just go directly from FCO to Florence, but either way, you must pass through Roma Termini to get to Florence. So I think the easiest thing for you to do is store your luggage at Termini or at your Rome hotel while you go to Florence. Have a great trip!
@@rouxbea2 Great idea! I have a page about bathrooms in Rome on the Romewise website and it's one of my most popular! A video about this sounds like a good idea so I'll add this to the list. Thanks! www.romewise.com/bathrooms-in-rome.html
I would say neither. I am not sure it's a "tourist trap", per se, but you do get what you pay for. This is NOT the place to come for quality leather goods. But if you just want a souvenir or an inexpensive gift, it's fine. We are working on some shopping guides on our website, so please stay tuned: www.florencewise.com. If you bookmark it, or better yet, sign up for our free newsletter, you'll know when we publish new pages. Our shopping guides, including one dedicated to leather goods, are all coming soon!
Thanks so much! I went out today in a wool tank top with wool cardigan. I had to take off the cardigan and even with the tank top (wool), I was hot. I saw a lot of people already in shorts. I don't think it's shots weather yet, and at night it's cool and you definitely need a jacket and a light scarf. But I think it's not really heavy coat weather any longer.
The ticket prices depend on many factors such as how far in advance you book, which class, time of day etc. Around $50 one way is very normal but it could be more or less.
We have a whole page with our faves: www.florencewise.com/best-gelato-in-florence.html I think I'd put Strega Nocciola and Gelateria dei Neri at the very top.
@@samtan4729 Yes, it's a winner for sure! For some reason I always want to go there on a Tuesday which is the day they (and a few other gelaterias!) are closed!
Thank you for the suggestion. We do have a page dedicated to Santa Croce on our website: www.florencewise.com/santa-croce.html We've also talked a bit about Santa Croce in a few of our other Florence videos, but it's a great idea to have a video just about the basilica. It's full of interesting history and architecture. I'll add this idea to our list. Thanks again!
@@Romewise The amount of famous and influential people interred in Santa Croche is just unbelievable. Even Bottechelli and his muse is buried there. Michaelangelo, Gallileo, Marchavelli, the guy who first founded America and named after him, etc.

Do not even attempt to visit Rome or Florence as day trips. Or if you are restricted to a day, pick one attraction eg Vatican Museums and St Peter’s in Rome or Uffizi Gallery in Florence and focus on that and swear that next time, you will devote several days to each city.

I have a couple of Mandarina Duck bags and have been eyeing off the backpack for sometime now as I love how the quality and how they weigh so little.
Yes I love their products, especially those made of this material. @@nikkiphillips128
Grazie mille
A te!
I am following ur vedios for a long time now, im coming to rome in 1 st week of rome, but is apprehensive about vatican
Thanks for following me. Why are you apprehensive about the Vatican?

Do you have a hotel or bnb you would recommend for us in Florence, thanks again.
Sorry not to worry about maps
@@maureendennis8316 I have a link in the description where you can search with a map, entering your criteria such as neighborhood, budget, type of accommodation, etc. The search engine includes hotels and self-catering apartments. Here are a couple of our favorites:

But as I said, with the search engine, you can search according to your specific criteria.
Are there some markets that carry reasonably priced linen?
Yes, you will find plenty of linen shops in Florence. You can open up Google maps and search for "firenze negozio di biancheria".
Nicely done video
Thanks so much!
@Romewise thank you very much for your suggestion
Do they have a charge in the Mercato Centrale for the restroom or a euro? Thank you.
No, it's free.
@@Romewise thank you! It’s always good to know where those are. Visiting in 30 days 😊
I'm also a big fan of knowing where to be able to stop for bathroom breaks!! @@heidibeechuk9203

@@rouxbea2 Great idea! I have a page about bathrooms in Rome on the Romewise website and it's one of my most popular! A video about this sounds like a good idea so I'll add this to the list. Thanks!

Is the leather market outside of San Lorenzo just a tourist trap, or do they actually have quality goods?
I would say neither. I am not sure it's a "tourist trap", per se, but you do get what you pay for. This is NOT the place to come for quality leather goods. But if you just want a souvenir or an inexpensive gift, it's fine.
We are working on some shopping guides on our website, so please stay tuned: www.florencewise.com. If you bookmark it, or better yet, sign up for our free newsletter, you'll know when we publish new pages. Our shopping guides, including one dedicated to leather goods, are all coming soon!

Thanks for the amazing videos. I am coming next weekend and was wondering about weather. Do I need to pack heavy jackets or sweater/hoodies are fine.
But I think it's not really heavy coat weather any longer.

hi there ~ do you and your husband take people on tours like this day?🌻
Thank you for asking but no, we don't. We are not licensed tour guides so we don't do tours. But I appreciate your wanting us to guide you!
Awesome videos
Glad you like them! Thanks for your kind comments!
How much is the ticket from Rome to Florence by the train because I checked and it was around $50 dollars for one way?
The ticket prices depend on many factors such as how far in advance you book, which class, time of day etc. Around $50 one way is very normal but it could be more or less.
I just booked round trip, first class quite zone for $68. Nov 15
great video.. good to see your husband in this one!
Thanks so much! And I'll let Alessandro know he should join me more often!
What gelato places do you recommend in Florence? I will be in Florence May 12 through May 15.
We have a whole page with our faves:

I think I'd put Strega Nocciola and Gelateria dei Neri at the very top.
@@Romewiseanother vote for Perche No! So good that I made a return visit!
@@samtan4729 Yes, it's a winner for sure! For some reason I always want to go there on a Tuesday which is the day they (and a few other gelaterias!) are closed!
Since you're such a historian, you should visit Santa Croche church in Florence and make an in-depth video of the famous people who are buried there.
Thank you for the suggestion. We do have a page dedicated to Santa Croce on our website:
www.florencewise.com/santa-croce.html
We've also talked a bit about Santa Croce in a few of our other Florence videos, but it's a great idea to have a video just about the basilica.
@@Romewise I look forward to this video. Btw, love your videos. You should do videos on Naples as well. There are so many underrated tourists attractions in Naples. Plus Pompeii and Amalfi Coast are nearby too.

Yes, Santa Croce is amazing indeed. Michelangelo, Macchiavelli, and Galileo are all buried there. In the baroque church of Ognissanti, you'll find the tombs of Amerigo Vespucci and Botticelli. I suppose one day isn’t enough for such city
I'd argue that one day is not enough but if you only have one day, you can still see a lot.
@@Romewisewith fuss and mess maybe, it’s a big city
@@andrei107 yep!

Do not even attempt to visit Rome or Florence as day trips. Or if you are restricted to a day, pick one attraction eg Vatican Museums and St Peter’s in Rome or Uffizi Gallery in Florence and focus on that and swear that next time, you will devote several days to each city.
Of course it's always best to spend more time if you can. But some people don't have that much time and for them, a day trip can still be rewarding.
@@Romewise thus my suggestions! The worst thing is to try to see too much.
