My husband and I are taking a guided tour of the Amalfi coast soon. The tour will end with a few days in Rome. We're fortunate to have visited once before, so, rather than revisit St. Peter's, we're going to return to the Galleria Borghese. The Bernini sculptures there are magnificent. I don't know how he carved stone to look lighter than air, but he did.

Hi Elyssa, my daughter & I returned from 5 weeks in Italy including a week in Rome. I can’t thank you enough for all the information you have provided. We took the after hours tour of the Vatican & it was amazing. We were the last group out and were essentially in the Raphael rooms & the Sistine chapel by ourselves. The evening Colosseum visit was just magical. Thank you for putting up your amazing videos (we watched the Florence ones too).

Elyssa, We just returned from our 16-day trip to Rome and Sorrento and wanted to thank you so much for all your helpful videos which made the trip easier and much more enjoyable. From the tips about which tours to book for the Coliseum and Palatine Hill to the recommendations for visiting St. Peters, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum without waiting in line, to your suggestions for hidden chapels and well-shaded parks, your contributions to the success of our trip were numerous. We even packed a picnic for our Sunday visit to the Appia Antica and tours of both the St. Sebastiano and Domitilla catacombs. Please accept the boundless thanks of two more travelers who greatly benefitted from your sage advice and please keep those videos coming!

Hi Elyssa, every time we've been in Rome , we would often get off the beaten path and escape into a little church and get recharged. The peace and tranquility was amazing. And the parks were great places for a picnic. Thank you so much for all your great advice.

I think the most important thing I realised was that I was part of the crowd so why would I expect others not to be there 😉. All being well be will be back in Rome mid January 2025 (airfares are not cheap from our part of the planet). Excited already. Loving your videos. Giving us good ideas for visiting new places.

That is a great way to look at it! You are so right - many times, I hear people complain about the crowds in high season, and I think, yes, but you are also part of the crowd. I think the best way not to stress about it is to accept it and think about something else. Thanks so much for the kind words about my videos! I'm glad you enjoy them!

Hi Just think you have a great “product” and love your website, RUclips posts and your invaluable advice and the selfless manner in which you present the same…thank uou! …just wonderful! We’re subscribed and spreading awareness of your great posts.
My partner and I are looking to travel to Rome in May next year (2025) to visit all of the beautiful sites the city has to offer…but also to see the BNL International tennis tournament. We come from SA and the exchange rate is so disadvantageous that for us (and I’m sure many others from developing countries) it’s quite expensive to make the trip to Italy.
We’ve done our research and decided we’d go on quarterfinals day (15th May) for the day session on Campo Centrale (main court). We’d even researched the best seating options, and chose the Italian Open Club seating.
We entered all the relevant info, making sure to be accurate…and the official ticketing site just wouldn’t work. We left a message and were informed that we should try again in the morning…still no joy!
Since this was one of the primary reasons for visiting Rome I have to say that we’re very disappointed…and not sure what to do now!

Yes, summer can be overly hot and uncomfortable. For many people, it's the only time they can come. If you can visit in April or October, you'll find the nicest weather - however, these are also the busiest times of year to visit, thanks to the nice weather.

Excellent tips, grazie! During our 2015 visit we really enjoyed the Galleria Doria Pamphilj, Palazzo Massimo, first-in-to-the Cappella Sistina tour, Vatican Museums night entry. Also, waking up early on a Sunday and walking around was like we had the city to ourselves. That strategy worked in Firenze, also. Our favorite park was Parco degli Acquedotti. I think we may have seen one or two other people the whole time we were there. As we age and as the world turns it seems less likely we will ever be able to get back to Italia/Europe. So, I hope you keep making these wonderful videos.

Thank you for letting me know you enjoy my videos. June is a busy time to be in Rome, Jubilee or not. The Jubilee likely won't affect your visit but if you are worrying about crowds and lines, you should prepare for them because June is always busy in Rome.

Great tips. I do have a question about daytrip from Rome to Castellucio. l've seen it on RUclips and it looks spectacular but it's not as popular as Orvieto and Assisi. So I'm wondering if taking a daytrip to Castellucio is worth it or should stick to somewhere closer

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  7 месяцев назад

Thank you so much! Yes, Castelluccio is beautiful, especially if you go when all the flowers are blooming. You have to hit it just right. We went one year when they were supposed to be blooming but we were about a week too early (it was in late May.)
But for me, it is a VERY long day trip from Rome. Like Venice, it's certainly doable, but in my opinion, it would be a long day without a huge payoff. I think Castelluccio is more about going and enjoying the place and the scenery, for which I think you need maybe one overnight stay.

Honestly, just watching this video makes you not want to visit. Nothing but tons crowds and tourist price gouging

That was not my intention, but yes, the crowds lately have been putting people off. Which is why I made this video.

The prices are not as high as here in the USA. I’ve been there twice and was amazed at some prices being so good. Mostly in restaurants.

@@1DebOsborn Yes I think it's relative. I also find that prices for eating out in Rome tend to be lower than in US restaurants for similar types of meals.

Love your videos! The parrots squeaking in the background was sweet.
I agree, I get into my “zen bubble” too. I realize I’m apart of this throng of tourists and make the most of it. I find less crowded streets to navigate and avoid busy times of day with popular sites.

@@lisekapp268 Thank you so much! Yes, that's part of enjoying Rome - especially when it's crowded! Look for quiet streets, and when you have to be in a crowd, just get in your zen bubble!

Go in February. Rome is empty.

Kind of...I was just at the Vatican Museums yesterday and by 11am, it was wall to wall people. But overall, yes, Rome is a bit quieter in February than it will get as spring arrives.

Yes, but to be honest I was actually surprised by how crowded they were on a Monday in February! @@robertthomson1587

please don't look away from the camera, it's distracting. you have a habit of looking up when you apply emphasis in your conversation. it's distracting.

Thanks so much for your very constructive comments. I hadn't realized that I do that until you mentioned it. It must be involuntary. I will work on improving this. Thanks for taking the time to provide useful tips that can help me improve.
