We've been fortunate to visit Rome a few times recently, and have recognized that going off the "beaten path" has resulted in memorable finds. This most recent video is truly a testament to that. We have downloaded the map below and will definitely utilize that on our upcoming visit. Thank you again for continually providing valuable tips and information.
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the walk and have a great visit to Rome!
An entry from my journal after returning from Rome. Now, more than three weeks removed from this tiny heavenly form of delight, I find that I miss it terribly. I love the whole ritual of having cappuccino. Standing in line with the locals to place my order and watching in awe at how quickly and gracefully the baristas work. And enjoying the virtually theatrical sounds of the Espresso machine alternatively grinding the fresh coffee beans and steaming the milk. And the intensity of the Italian language spoken by the locals as they traded words with each other.
Sounds like you really love Rome and you are not alone!
@@Romewise Yes, it is my favorite city! Thank you
I really love your style. It is so natural to make your video in the place and your English is easy to understand for non english-speakers.❤
Wow, thank you! I'm really happy you enjoy my videos and find them clear and easy to watch!
Thank you for these walks. Next time when I'm in Rome I will visit the aqueduct feeding the Trevi fountain - I did not know that I could visit this place!
Thanks so much for watching and for letting me know you enjoy my videos! I hope you enjoy the Vicus Caprarius next time you visit Rome!
Woo hoo! You walked through my favourite 'secret spot' - the Galleria Sciarra. I discovered it the very first time I was in Rome in 1981 as I was making my very disoriented way to the Trevi Fountain. I make a point of walking through it every time I visit Rome as I'd feel a bit unfulfilled if I didn't.
Yes, it's a great little jewel of a building isn't it? I love walking through and I especially love taking people there! Thanks so much for watching my video and for sharing your experience!
Absolutely love this video, makes me wish I could have found you ages ago when we were last there, but really captures one of the most amazing things about Rome, that you could be one street over from the most amazing ancient location and have no idea...
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it's true, Rome is so full of tiny streets, courtyards, and piazzas and even for those of us who live here, it takes a lifetime to explore them all!
Marvelous again! I stumbled upon the Galleria Sciarra several years ago and didn't know what it was. I have not been able to find it since then, so thanks for putting a name on it. I've looked it up. It's on my list for next year's visit. 'I"ve stayed in a small rental in Monte several times and love the neighborhood
That's great! I'm so glad you found out what you were looking for! I love to take people through the Galleria Sciarra. It's such an unusual building in the middle of Rome. Have a great time on your next visit!
Another great video, thanks for all the info you give. I’m really looking forward to visiting Rome next year with my daughter for 10 days. It’s quite stressful trying to organise what and when to see all Rome has to offer but your videos have definitely helped. Thanks
Thanks. so much! I'm glad you find my videos and content helpful with your trip planning. Don't stress too much, and have a wonderful visit to Rome!

@@Romewise Will do. I want to somehow add on the circular church with the grisly vignettes on the walls, the other remarkable multi level church that gives the visitor a sense of time travel and the 'golden house'. Not to mention some vintage shopping at Monti!
It sounds like you may have watched my video about things to see and do near the Colosseum, where I talk about Santo Stefano (the circular church), San Clemente (the multi-level church), and Nero's Domus Aurea (Golden House). In case you didn't, it's here: ruclips.net/video/amDynC-KmXs/видео.html

This is fabulous! Our first trip to Rome in April and we will definitely be doing these walks. Can you explain where the bridge with the good views of the Colosseum is, please? I can’t see it on the map. Thanks!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it useful for your upcoming trip.
The bridge with the good views is called Ponte degli Annibaldi. Here is a Google map pin:

Hi - loving the videos we are going to Rome at the end of may however we can seem to be able to book tickets via coop culture- do they not do them anymore ?
Yes, as of May 1, there is a new ticketing system. I'll have a new video out about it soon! Here is the new official site:

Thanks so much - we have the basic rickets for 29 may -everything else was sold out !
@@ellenwhitehead5498 Yes, May is one of the busiest months in Rome! Glad you got tickets.
emma, have you posted about the capuchin crypt nearish the fountain?
Yes, I have a video about walking down the Via Veneto where I talk about the Capuchin crypt. It's not that close to the Trevi Fountain but it's certainly walkable (about 15 minutes):

Great and helpful video! I'm trying to locate the Colosseum viewpoint at 11:56 in this video, but I can't find it of the bridge leading to it on Google Maps. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for your video!! Unfortunately I can find no Oratory of the Holy Cross in Rome on Gmaps - is it known by another name? :)
It's strange, even in the English version, they use the Italian spelling, Oratorio del Santissimo Crocifisso. Here you go:

Hello. Do you do city tours to help see best spots in fast speed without getting inside forum and museums? To get best photo shots and best food?
Thank you for asking but I am not a tour guide. I have information about all the above on this channel and on the www.romewise.com website.
Hello there, can you use these maps for navigation?
Yes absolutely!
Do you have written version of this video for printing ?
I don't have a web page or ebook but I do have the two maps laid on on a Google map if that helps:
www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1i5ztDDcUKZipsGFwIXGhL7L_oy8aQnA&usp=sharing
Would you be interested in a small e-book with the details?
It would be helpful to many if you discussed vegan restaurants and vegan food along your way.
What a great suggestion!! Thanks. I’ll make sure to work on that for future walking itineraries. You might find this page on the Romewise website helpful:

Like your vids but may I suggest a site of particular interest to any Brits? It is the Basilica of St Pudentiana in the Via Urbana, about two miles from the Coliseum. This church, now a centre for the Filipinos of Rome, was the site of the Paladium Britannica, the British Palace, so called because it was the site of the home given to the British war leader Caradoc, or Caratacus, who led the Welsh Silures and Ordovices in warfare against Rome after the Roman invasion. After his capture, Caradoc and his family were taken to Rome but instead of being executed, he was granted his freedom and that of his family due to his impressive speech to the senate. This is where things get interesting because the Welsh were Gnosticism Christians from the first century and Caradoc’s daughter, Pudens, was a leading Christian who held clandestine meetings at the British Palace. It is thought that St Paul himself was a visitor there. And the first Bishop of Rome was not St Peter but Linus, a son In law of Caradoc. So Rome received Christianity from Britain, not the other way around.
Thank you for your suggestion. I love Santa Pudentiana and most people don't know a lot about it. Since St. Paul is said to have visited Senator Pudens' home which is where Santa Prassede is today, it would make sense that he also visited the home of Pudentia, Praxedes sister. I didn't know about this story about Caradoc - thanks so much for sharing it!
@@Romewise thanks for your reply. Revisiting my sources tells me that Pudenziana was in fact the granddaughter of King Caradoc, the Welsh war leader. She was martyred for her faith and her mother was Caradoc’s daughter Claudia. Most Catholic scholars maintain that the first Bishop of Rome was in fact Linus, not Peter. The term Pope did not come into being until several centuries later. It is thought that the Catholic Church later promoted Peter as the first Pope and relegated Linus to second, in a political move, because Peter was one of Christs apostles. By the way, Caratacus or Caradoc had led the Welsh Silures in their opposition to the Romans in Britain for some nine years before his capture. He was treacherously handed to the Romans by Queen Cartismandua, of the Brigantes tribe (in the British Midlands). Even without his leadership, the Silures carried on fighting the Romans for another twenty years and there is some evidence that they even defeated a legion in battle. There is even doubt that the Silures were ever defeated at all. The Romans certainly built them the town of Caerwent in South Wales which they ran as a civitas. (many Roman remains today, including large town walls and an early church, do Google ). Some historians believe the Romans and Silurians came to a peace treaty, signed at Cardiff, Welsh Caer Dydd, City of the Treaty, or Agreement. Hope this helps.
@@petrovonoccymro9063 Thanks so much for sharing this fascinating and detailed history!
@@Romewise Croeso i chi. (Welsh for you are welcome).
Im visiting Rome in August this year. One thing that is sadly lacking in all of these clips, (not just yours), is any reference to accessibility for mobility impaired people. I use a walker and im afraid of getting into a site and then not being able to access it properly. I realize that it is a very small market, but even people with children in strollers must experience the same problems. Im not expecting a full video on this subject, but simple an ad on at the end saying its either suitable or not for anyone with mobility issues. 🙂
Thank you for watching and for your helpful comments. I agree this information is important to many people. As you point out, it's also relevant topeople with strollers, or with any kind of walking issues.
I do have a page all about this on the website:
www.romewise.com/accessible-rome.html
But I agree it would be helpful to include this in my future videos. Thank you for the suggestion!
It's unfortunate but I've waited TOO long because of raising a family and the cost of travel to do any, and now that I'm retired, I have physical handicaps such as knee issues.
Walking is difficult and almost impossible to accommodate all I'd like to see. So with that in mind I know that most of what I want to see will be walking.
However, is there anything to accommodate, such as a scooter ride or bikes or something that can accommodate handicapped, someone who can't do the walking?
Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm sorry you are suffering from knee issues. It's no fun when you want to walk around a big city like Rome. I have a whole page on my website all about visiting Rome with limited mobility. You might find this helpful:
www.romewise.com/accessible-rome.html
