We'll be there 4 full days (5 nights), so day 1 of your itinerary sounds good to start on the first full day. We'll probably take it easy and discover the neighbourhood on the afternoon we'll be arriving. It'll be a 15 minute walk from our Airbnb to the obelisk in St. Peter's Square, so easy peasy for day 2 of your itinerary, and we can go back to the Airbnb for lunch. Hi Elessya, I’m planning a last-minute trip to Rome in the first week of January, and I have three full days to explore. I’ve been devouring your videos-thank you so much for the helpful content! I plan to follow your suggested itinerary. I have a question about climbing the dome at St. Peter’s Basilica. I’m a bit claustrophobic and want to know if the space is too confined. Also, I noticed that the Vatican tours including St. Peter’s are quite expensive ($150 per person). My plan is to take a Vatican tour and then walk to the Basilica and wait in line, even though I know the line can be long. Do you think this is a good idea, or should I pay the extra money for the shortcut? Thank you!
Thank you so much. I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. Regarding your questions: You can see what it's like to climb the dome here: ruclips.net/video/B82ubnugwHI/видео.html As for taking a tour - I am a big believer in tours when they are good and add value. I think being able to take the shortcut into the basilica is worth it, but this is subjective. So it's really up to you to decide if this is something you want to spend money on. The alternative is indeed spending more time logistically getting between the two sites, and yes, standing in line.
Hi Elyssa, thank you so much for all your videos, you are the best! 🙌 Do you think riding a lyf/uber or taxi are advisable from this all landmarks because I am traveling with my husband with walking issue. TIA❤

Hi i really love watching your very informative ROME VLOG, any tips for traveling to Rome with an 85y/o with us using a wheelchair? We will be there in April 2025. Thank you.
@@deanhatescoffee I'm on Google Maps now where the destination is from Circus Maximus to Acquaduc Park 🚴♀️🛣 I wanted to see some of the old mosoleums on the way to the Acquaduc Park but Google Maps cuts half way through Appia Antica and goes to via Druso instead 🙈🙈🙈 I wonder if there's an electric bike tour guide that people can join where you get to ride Appia Antica and see Baths of Caracalla, mosoleums, Acquaduc Park and I think there's a palace of a famous emperor (might be Nero) including a small circus maximus track on the way here 🤔
@@deanhatescoffee Ah you not the first person to suggest this! I'll add it to my list and see if I can do this video for you guys! Thanks for the suggestion!
I am not sure you can take a mobility scooter inside the Colosseum or Roman Forum. In any case, you would not get very far because of the logistics at these sites. People in a wheelchair can visit but there are limitations. You may find this web page helpful, and I link to other helpful resources: www.romewise.com/accessible-rome.html
Elyssa, Great videos and very useful information. I was looking for such videos for other cities and there is none as good as yours. Simply the best! We will be heading to visit Italy shortly and have a question: In minute 16:00 of this video you mentioned that we need to book the tours that have direct access to Saint Peter's Basilica. I tried your links and there are plenty different tours and I don't know which one has this access. Can you clarify it please?
Thank you so much for letting me know you find my videos helpful! Yes, I agree, taking a tour that allows you to use the shortcut between the Sistine Chapel and the basilica is a great idea. I show different tours because many companies offer this tour. You may want to select one based on the group size, time its offered, price etc. If you want me to tell you the one I'd probably recommend the most, it would be this one: fas.st/t/Q7bMWNTF I hope that helps! Have a great visit!
Yes, that's correct. The renovations of the fountains in Piazza Navona are due to be finished by December 2024. Yes, I have sometimes found the credit card line at the Pantheon to be empty. It's hit or miss.
I sometimes hear of people's tours being canceled last minute, so is it safest to book directly with the official sites for my once in a lifetime trip? I am going during Jubliee and would hate to have a tour canceled, after I have spent all this time and money for this visit. Thanks so much for all your insight!!!
Yes, I recommend booking through the official sites if you just want an entry ticket or basic tour. If you want a more complete tour, you will have to book through a third party. The chances of your tickets being cancelled depend on the kind of visit you are looking for. Standard entry to the Colosseum is easy to come by and those tickets / tours are unlikely to be cancelled even through a third party. If you are looking for the highly sought after underground or night tickets, there is a huge demand and limited supply, so it's impossible for everyone to be able to get these tickets, and therefore, yes, sometimes those booked through a third party can be cancelled because they simply cannot get the tickets.
We’re visiting first week of October for 3 days. Thanks for this guide. If we are staying near Vatican City, do we need to use much public transport for this 3 day plan?
Thanks for watching. Yes, if you are staying near Vatican City, you will need to use public transportation for most of your visit except when you visit the Vatican. The metro red line A is the easiest to use and takes you to many points in Rome's center, but there are also buses, depending on where you are staying.
I’ll only be there for 2 days, I’m there for a cruise back to Florida, my main thing to do is see the Sistine Chapel, any advice for getting there from the airport hotel?
You may find this video helpful: ruclips.net/video/diFsRu34K3A/видео.html To get into Rome from the airpirt, you should check wth your hotel. They may have a shuttle. They can also arrange a car for you if you like. For tips on visiting the Vatican, you might want to watch some of my videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLEAd_Z-Tx6V2P1eyvXoPNB6EbSOd3ZIHf
Sure, it can. The days are pretty much interchangeable. The only restrictions might be the day of the week if the Vatican Museums are closed or if there is a Papal Audience.
The Colosseum, Vatican museums, and Pantheon all offer audio guides. The Colosseum has an app where you can listen to a free audio guide, while the Pantheon and Vatican charge a small fee for their audio guides.
If the only day you have available to visit the Colosseum is the Free Sunday, then you can do it, but I suggest going after 2pm when the early morning lines have calmed down a little. It will, however, be busy all day. Otherwise, I suggest you visit a different site or museum on this day: ruclips.net/video/cGiQWmPG3yo/видео.html

Yes that's right, there is currently some construction in Rome in preparation for the 2025 jubilee. You may find this video helpful: ruclips.net/video/ocmA7rKxBZY/видео.html
October is the busiest month of the year in Rome, so expect crowds. I'd go at 7am when it opens to try to get the shortest line. From about 8am - closing, you can expect long waits of perhaps 1 hour or more. You might find this video about how to skip the line to Saint Peter's basilica helpful: ruclips.net/video/JfBlqsU91Pc/видео.html
Last few days, after putting significant efforts, I made a perfect (to me 😝) 3 days itinerary for exploring Rome. Now, after watching your video, I am feeling that I have wasted my energy. I could have watched your video first to create my itinerary, because both are almost same. 🤦
If you click on the description, it expands, and there, below the chapter listings, is the link to the maps: 🗺️ MAP of each of the 3 days: tinyurl.com/3-days-Rome
The Sistine Chapel is at the END of the Vatican Museums, so you can't skip them. That being said, you can watch my video here to see how to zip through the museums and beeline to the Sistine Chapel in about 20 minutes: ruclips.net/video/5ac7cvBH0iY/видео.html For more details about visiting the Vatican, you may want to watch these videos that are in my Vatican playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLEAd_Z-Tx6V2P1eyvXoPNB6EbSOd3ZIHf Also I am working on a new video with a complete guide to planning your visit to Vatican City. It will be out in a few weeks. Please stay tuned!
As the Romans say, "A lifetime is not enough"! I live here, and I agree. I am always discovering new things. But for many people, 3 days is the time they have, so I hope this helps to maximize that time.
As of July 2023, there is a fee to enter the Pantheon. The Vatican Museums are open Monday - Saturday and closed Sundays except for the last Sunday of the month when they are open and free. Saint Peter's Basilica is open 365 days a year.
@Romewise Aventine Hill seems a bit far. It's after Circus Maximus from memory. When I was last in Rome, I walked in and around Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Colloseum (including Arch of Constantine) and Circus Maximus and I was done 🤣🤣🤣 Time to head back to the hotel to rest my feet 🛌 No time for Aventine Hill
Those areas I just mentioned will last a whole day. I spent the most time in Palestine Hill because it was so big and long. 🏰 The least amount of time I spent was in the Colloseum.🏟 Looking back, I wished I spent more time in the Roman Forum to really study the Arch of Titus and especially the Arch of Septimius Severus ⛩️⛩️
Well it does when you visit the Vatican Museums in the room of Constantine. But it's not often mentioned as a tourist attraction, you are right. It's a bit far from most sites, and it's actually not that interesting to look at IMO.
@@Romewise Melvian Bridge changed the course of history ✝️ If it wasn't for this bride, our society today would have 2.3B pagan followers instead of Christians.

I show different tours because many companies offer this tour. You may want to select one based on the group size, time its offered, price etc.
If you want me to tell you the one I'd probably recommend the most, it would be this one:

I hope that helps! Have a great visit!
@@Romewise Thanks so so much! I wish there was such vlogs for other large cities like Paris. I watched a lot of videos and yours are the best.
@@HamidEbrahimi0 So nice of you! Gosh, maybe we'll have to head up to Paris to make a 3-day Paris video...research of course.

Thank you! Cheers!
Piazza navonna fountains under construction currently, the credit card line was empty today and the cash line 20 minutes long at the Pantheon
The church at Popolo and the building with the Caravaggio paintings are closed
Yes, Santa Maria del Popolo is currently closed for renovations and is due to reopen in November.
Castel Sant'Angelo is great just to wander around the grounds.
Yes it is! And there is a lovely park and playground in the back.
👏
I’ll only be there for 2 days, I’m there for a cruise back to Florida, my main thing to do is see the Sistine Chapel, any advice for getting there from the airport hotel?

To get into Rome from the airpirt, you should check wth your hotel. They may have a shuttle. They can also arrange a car for you if you like.

It obviously depends where you are staying to determine what sites are you visiting first !
Sure, it can. The days are pretty much interchangeable. The only restrictions might be the day of the week if the Vatican Museums are closed or if there is a Papal Audience.
Do they offer audio tours if you do a self guided tour?
The Colosseum, Vatican museums, and Pantheon all offer audio guides. The Colosseum has an app where you can listen to a free audio guide, while the Pantheon and Vatican charge a small fee for their audio guides.
Do you recommend visiting the Colosseum on first Sunday of the month? Or that’s just too many people?
If the only day you have available to visit the Colosseum is the Free Sunday, then you can do it, but I suggest going after 2pm when the early morning lines have calmed down a little. It will, however, be busy all day.
Otherwise, I suggest you visit a different site or museum on this day:

How long is the wait to get into St Peter’s Basilica in October, generally?
October is the busiest month of the year in Rome, so expect crowds. I'd go at 7am when it opens to try to get the shortest line. From about 8am - closing, you can expect long waits of perhaps 1 hour or more.
You might find this video about how to skip the line to Saint Peter's basilica helpful:

Last few days, after putting significant efforts, I made a perfect (to me 😝) 3 days itinerary for exploring Rome. Now, after watching your video, I am feeling that I have wasted my energy. I could have watched your video first to create my itinerary, because both are almost same. 🤦
Well they say great minds think alike. I hope you have a wonderful visit to Rome!
I couldn’t find the links to the Google maps
If you click on the description, it expands, and there, below the chapter listings, is the link to the maps:

How do you skip the Vatican Museum and only go to the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica?
The Sistine Chapel is at the END of the Vatican Museums, so you can't skip them. That being said, you can watch my video here to see how to zip through the museums and beeline to the Sistine Chapel in about 20 minutes:

I think 3 days in Rome is not long enough 😕
Too many tourist attractions to see in Rome 🏛 🏟 ⛲️ ⛪️
As the Romans say, "A lifetime is not enough"! I live here, and I agree. I am always discovering new things. But for many people, 3 days is the time they have, so I hope this helps to maximize that time.
@@Romewise Quick question: Are there many tourists in Rome that saw the Olympic Games in Paris last week? 🤔
@@lilpenny1982 I have no idea - I assume there might be some but I don't have any stats about this.
sorry - had to stop watching this because the sound was distorted.
Hmm, I wonder why. It is working for me. Maybe try a different browser?
I entered the Pantheon numerous times and never paid. The Vatican is closed on Mondays. On your day one I would have burned out already.
As of July 2023, there is a fee to enter the Pantheon. The Vatican Museums are open Monday - Saturday and closed Sundays except for the last Sunday of the month when they are open and free. Saint Peter's Basilica is open 365 days a year.
The itinerary is a suggestion. Everyone should go at the pace that's comfortable for them.

Capitoline Hill, Wedding Cake and Forum Imperialli is Day 5 🏛
What about Trastevere? The Aventine Hill? Rome is an endless discovery :)
@@lilpenny1982 I visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill at least once a month and I never get tired of it. There is always something to see!
@@Romewise Once a month? 😲😲😲😲 So 12 times a year? 😮😮😮 #wow

Sorry I don't understand your comment.
Btw, the Melvian Bridge never gets any mention 🌉 ✝️
Well it does when you visit the Vatican Museums in the room of Constantine. But it's not often mentioned as a tourist attraction, you are right. It's a bit far from most sites, and it's actually not that interesting to look at IMO.
@@Romewise Melvian Bridge changed the course of history ✝️ If it wasn't for this bride, our society today would have 2.3B pagan followers instead of Christians.
@@lilpenny1982 Yes, that's why it's the focus of a huge fresco inside the Room of Constantine in the Vatican Museums. When you take a tour of the Vatican Museums, the guides talk quite a bit about this fresco and the history behind it.
@Romewise I've been to the Vatican Museum and unfortunately I can't remember seeing this painting. I can only remember the wall of maps, Raphael's Room and Sistine Chapel.
@@lilpenny1982 The Room of Constantine is one of the Raphael Rooms. However, it was under a long restoration and has only recently been visitable. I hope you'll come back to Rome to see it! You can see it in this video where I feature it:
