I struggled with this too. When I first read it and understood it the way I understood it. It gave me incredible fear, anxiety and hopelessness. Having fear and hopelessness after reading God’s word should be a red flag immediately. 2nd Timothy says for God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind. If your immediate thought is of fear, hopelessness and no way out of it, then that means that thought is not from God but from the devil. The devil will always find a way to pervert the truth. He did it with Jesus himself in the wilderness.

Wow...did this ever help me. I am guilty of being a perennial backslider, and having read Heb. 6:4-6, I thought I was doomed without hope. As Pastor Guzik explained this, I remembered (1) Jesus said, "No man cometh unto the Father, but by me[;]" (2) Jesus told Peter to forgive someone who offended him 490 times in one day; and (3) Jesus said, "All manner of sin among men can be forgiven[.]" That, and the Old Testament is filled with examples of Israel falling into sin, and God offering them renewal. Whew!! I am relieved, to say the very least.

I fell away 24 years ago because I did not resist the temptation and stayed in it. The Holy Spirit left me. I quickly began to bear evil fruit. I have been trying to return to faith for the last 4 years. I have regular conversations with the pastor, I read the Bible, I go to church regularly, but still I can't go back, my heart is hard and there is almost nothing left of me as a person. But I want to go back so I don't have to go to eternal destruction. This life has also remained completely empty, without blessing.

This truly is the strategy of the enemy, who intervenes to stumble and tempt us at points when we are yearning for an earnest transformation through Christ Jesus. But there is victory in Christ over all earthly wickedness and destruction, only if and when we put our trust and faith in Him alone, and lean not on our own understanding, but on the Word of God, and His eternal love and grace offered to us by His Holy Word and through His Will, often enacted and experienced through the workings of His faithful servants.
Do not be discouraged, but be strengthened in your resolve to reclaim your salvation and live boldly in the light and goodness of the Lord! You are taking the right steps: seek solace in the loving embrace of the Lord, by pouring out your heart in earnest prayer, alone and aloud, and continue to meditate on the living word of God through your study of scriptures, continuing to seeking after His guidance.
There are many traps laid out for those who dare to escape the enemy's grasp, but you can persevere safe in the knowledge that your salvation will surely vindicate your every effort. And, more importantly than measuring yourself against any unreachable standard of perfection, your continual & earnest fighting against the flesh will stand as a witness and bright light to others still in the darkness of this corrupt and sinful world.

You do not build a doctrine or belief on the basis of one biblical passage (Hebrews 6:4-6) and a cardinal rule of sound Bible interpretation is that when there are numerous biblical verses that clearly teach the eternal security of the believer (i.e. John 6:37, 39; John 10: 27-29; John 17:2, 3; Romans 8:30, 37-39; Acts 13:48; Psalm 37: 28; etc.) you always interpret some difficult or obscure (uncertain) passage in the light of those passages whose clear meaning had already been established; in other words, Hebrews 6:4-6 must be interpreted in the light of John 6:37, 39; John 10:27-29; John 17:2-3; Romans 8:30, 37-39; Psalm 37:28; etc. , not the other way around.
If it was genuine salvation, you do not have it one time and lose it another. The gift of God is eternal life--and if eternal and by God's grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5), you can't lose it anymore that you could have earned it. Sinners without Christ will serve the old sinful (carnal) nature or heart with its natural desires and appetites for the things of the flesh, the world and the devil, not the Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 2:14; Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 8:9) for a lifetime, unless they experience genuine conversion through the heart and life-transforming power of the Spirit of God and faith in Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). But once they do, they might struggle and stumble at times, but they will not want to go back to serving the desires and fleshly lusts of the old, sinful, fallen nature, but instead they will be inclined towards the spiritual desires and interests of the new (spiritual) creation they have become through faith in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17) --and that new (spiritual) creation is eternal (unending) because salvation in its broadest sense or scope includes salvation past (I have been saved), present (I am being saved) and future (I will yet be saved), corresponding to the Spirit's working in our lives in the past (calling, new birth or regeneration and justification), present ( sanctification) and future (glorification) ; in short, it is ongoing and eternal, if indeed, it is the work of God, not the work of man. Many believers fail to comprehend that ongoing process or progressive working of God's Spirit (redemption) in the life of a believer until he/she stands blameless and spotless in the Presence of the Lamb of God slain from before the foundation of the world for all eternity. God bless.

They still arent getting it are they. Many dont except this because faith in Christ requires us to abandon faith in our ability. People cling to this doctrines for the simple fact they do not really believe in the power of what Christ did. They tell you to be afraid? This is sad. If any of them would slow down and ask the simple basic question does this teach faith in Christ and draw me deeper into fellowship or does this cause doubt in him and fear of judgment which always separates. It's honestly sad to see how many are still on milk. If in the old testament one act of faith in God from Abraham it was credited for rightousness then believing less in one act of faith in Christ's one act upon the cross is not just sad it is dishonoring devaluing and disrespecting the precious Gift God gave.

@@ryanjohnson2256 no brother it isnt doctinated belief. Please read the entire chapter slowly prayerfully and in humility for God to show you even if you have to change your mind. I'm not even going to discuss this video here because there is so many errors here it's easier just to tell you what the scripture says. First of all we can agree all scripture has to agree right? So in all truth and transparency this teaching here is disagreeing with Roman's 8 2 cor. John 1st John Galatians LOL the list goes on. So if a teaching does not support other scriptures then there has to be an error in how we are understsnding it. Right? Heb 6 is talking to a group of people who like many believers if I can use that term believers who are law and performance based salvation. Vs 4 and 5 he corrects them saying you all should be on meat not the milk of doctrines of repentance and eternal judgement ( I'm condensing this ) He urges us to go onto perfection. Then vs 6 he explains it very clearly ( first of all we can take out the word if because and you can research this for yourself if is not found in the greek text) he says it is impossible for a real believer to fall away be condemned lose their salvation as much as it is impossible for Christ to be crucified again and put to open shame. I can 100% back this up with many other scriptures even in the rest of Hebrews but let's look under the old covenant first . We can agree that the old covenant was not as powerful and perfect as the new right? So please if one act of faith in Christ's one act upon the cross salvation can be compromised then why was it that Abraham's one act of faith in God's promise was credited to him for rightousness. This teaching is still teaching a performance based salvation and not in Christ's sacrifice. Any time you hear a teaching which draws focus on yourself and away from Christ should be your first clue something is wrong. Many have fallen in their faith but that does not impact in any way the covenant we have with God through Christ. In fact God can not lie but then he promises on top of his word that any who come to him will in no wise will he cast away. Any teachings which take away from the power of what jesus did on the cross feeds doubt and fear. Even 1st John tells us that those who fear are not perfect in love. This is what he was saying to go on to perfection because many were still fearing What Christ did and faith in that was not enough. Still all based on performance. I enjoyed listening to David but we are obligated to cast away bring under subjection anything that disagrees with the word unto the obedience of Christ. It comes down to asking ourselves am I believing Jesus was enough and his work finished or in my ability to discount it or make it of no effect. Failing to accept this and to continue in unbelief is not only doubting in Christs finished work upon the cross but it is also devaluing, dishonoring, and disrespecting God's awesome expression of love through the gift of Christ shedding his perfect spotless blood for the sins of the world. No this teaching does not promote faith at all but doubt and discounts the work of Christ. As far as many shall say in that day Lord lord did we not do this or that in your name speaks of those who worked miracles but not having accepted Christ in their hearts. Scripture support found when disciples told jesus there were people using his name healing ect...Even today they're those who understand faith can change things and operate in it just shy of surrendering their lives over to him and having a relationship with him. There are supernatural things which happen through faith alone. It is the heart which we know God and he us. Even now faith in him calls us to abandon this self centeredness. As in Luke those who seek to lose their lives for his sake shall find it. That also means to abandon the doubt and fear of eternal judgement to faith that what Christ did was so powerful perfect and complete that I never again have to worry about myself again but now am free to continue in him and be used of him to share the hope I have in me in Christ with others effectively. I encourage you to stay clear of ANYTHING that deminises the gift of God through Christ. Paul even says I save to know nothing among you save Christ and him crucified it is the power of God unto salvation. Gal. Or cor. Says not of yourselves or works less any man should boast. I hope you continue to read scriptures in the light of their relationship to others instead of teachings which disagree with them. Scriptures support scriptures...ALWAYS

God help me I'm really struggling with this passage. It has affected my prayer life in making me doubt that God will answer and not to expect anything now as stated in James 1:6-8 since I feel it has made me double-minded and unstable. I've been calling and texting everybody I know to try and talk me out of spiraling into mental chaos over this as there was a very frightening and confusing experience I had a year and a half ago in which I willfully sinned against the urge of the Holy Spirit telling me not to that made me severely question my salvation and haven't been able to tell if I'm still saved. I watched the John Piper and Allistair Begg sermons online about Hebrews 6 also to see what they had to say about it and I'm very afraid God has hardened my heart due to my persistent sinning like he did to Pharoah when he willfully sinned. I need prayers for confirmation of my salvation, I feel like I gave up my ticket and can't get it back

    Rightly dividing the word on
    Hebrews 6:4-8
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, "With men this is IMPOSSIBLE; but with God all things are possible.”
    {Matthew 19:26}
And they [the natural branch, the Jew] also, *if they abide not still in unbelief* shall be graffed in: *for God is able to graff them in again*
    {Romans 11:23}
This is not saying that a person putting God to open shame (with a hardened heart who are living outside of the character and the faith of Jesus) will come to repentance again.
Never stop praying for those who are fallen from the faith, for all things are possible with God.

      Ask yourself these questions...
Do you just Jesus to forgive you and save you?
Are you depending upon what He did on the cross for you?
Is it your desire to follow Him all the days of your life?
If you can say yes to those questions, then you are in good standing with God.
Jesus came to save SINNERS, not the righteous.
Here is a great passage about God's love for sinners. Hope that it helps!
      Romans 5:6-11 New Living Translation
6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

There is no “ if “ in that verse , it reads having fallen away in the Greek. There is no hypothetical. These were Hebrew Christians who were going back , drifting back to the mosaic law , this whole chapter is tied to chapter 5 when they should be growing that they needed milk , when they should be teacher , they needed to be taught all over. Therefore , go back to chapter 5 ........Hebrews 5:14
But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Drifting back ! Does the unbeliever drift back ? No , this has to do with your onward Christian growth and leaving the elementary things .......

No wonder so many have yet to see any growth who continue in this cycle of doubt and unbelief. I enjoy David teachings but you missed this one brother. Read the entire text...vs 4 and 5 is addressing a people who are law and performance based salvation to leave behind doctrines of repentance and eternal judgment to go onto perfection. He goes onto vs 6 explaining they can no more lose their salvation than Christ can be crucified again and put to open shame. The word (IF ) IS NOT in the greek texts. The word has to agree period. Consider Abraham's one act of faith in believing God it was credited to him for rightousness so isnt it ridiculous to think the one act of faith in Christ's one act upon the cross isnt as powerful?! The word always agrees. The scripture says when we first believe we have past from death unto life being made a new creation our lives hid in God through Christ saved to the uttermost ect..Believing in ones ability to condemn his own self to hell is unbelief in the work of Christ upon the cross. This is why he says let's leave this behind this struggle to believe Christ died for your sins to go unto perfection of Christ in you and being ministers of the ministry of reconciliation to lead others to him. You can never lead even an ant to faith in the salvation provided by faith in Christ until you yourselves truly believe. This message here is still based on performance and not in Christ. Perfect example of still being on milk. No judgments though because I didnt even understand this till today. Also the scripture which says many will say Lord Lord did we not do such and such. It says IN THAT DAY. meaning the day of judgment and doing exploits because remember the disciples also mentioned there were those using his name to perform miracles. It is the faith in him and relationship of the heart where we know and are known of him. This whole teaching which promotes fear and doubt is against faith in God's love expressed through Christ and his ability to save and focuses more faith on the power of sin and self to separate from him. The difference between the lost and the saved is faith in Christ. Teaching things which promote fear feeds unbelief in Christ. I have many scriptures which actually all agree that faith in Christ in his act leads to salvation unlike this interpretation of scripture which is in stark disagreement with many actually alot. This is so sad because many have lost faith for various things and God calls them back into fellowship but it's because teachings like this which separates them from the joy, love, peace even faith in him. Brother you need to come before him in humility because you are in opposition to the message of Christ's redemptive work and you're working doubt and fear in people who come to your teachings for the simple fact their hearts are longing for connection with God so then why preach the very thing to crush that hope we have which says what I could not do in myself Christ did for me!!! You are in error

Dear pastor, I think you got it wrong. If your analysis was correct that they are false believers, the author would have said some things like “they were not real anyway, so don’t worry about them”. Is that what he tried to convey? No at all. The only reason you said they were false believers is because you do not believe true believers can lose their salvation if they stop believing. Well I believe that is exactly what Hebrew is saying. You used you Theology to misinterpret the Bible. Sad to see Many are doing just that.

      Jack,
Thanks for your comments. "Theology" is the study of God, hence the study of God's word, since that is a main way that God reveals Himself to us. So "using" theology means that we take what we study regarding God and do our best to come to conclusions.
The Bible clearly teaches that there are those who appear to be Believers, but are not. An example of this is the parable of the wheat and the tears found in Matthew 13. Another example is found in Matthew 7, where there are those who will apparently even do miracles I the name of Jesus. These people will believe that they are right with God but Jesus will say to them that He never knew them.
On the other side of the theological coin we read from 2 Timothy 2:19.
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
So we study God's word and we try to come to some conclusions, and we allow for disagreement within the Body of Christ. I hope this helps a bit. God bless you!

@@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Thank you Pastor for reply quickly. I still believe the Hebrew author said it very clearly that if we stop believing we will lose our salvation. The key is "believing". We are saved by believing and if we stop believing then we stop having. if that were not the case, then all the warnings and urging of "live out your salvation", "do not fall back" are not necessary because you are not going to lose it anyway. You are eternally secured already. God will not force you to believe him and he would not stop you from unbelieving either. He gives us that free will to decide. And what about apostasy? Did not Paul warned us that? any way, thank you for replying.

TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE WE HAVE TO TRACE THE WORDS BACK TO ITS ORIGIN IN WHICH IT WAS WRITTEN NEW TESTAMENT WAS IN GREEK
Heb 6:6 If they( G2532 ) shall fall away, G3895  to renew G340  them again G3825  unto G1519  repentance; G3341  seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, G388 G1438 G3588 G5207 G2316  and G2532  put him to an open shame. G3856
That last part put him to an open shame
Greek Strong 3856=paradeigmatizō ===to show alongside (the public), that is, expose to infamy: - make a public example, put to an open shame.
So thats very similar to the sin blasphemy of the Holy Spirit
meaning to have been expose to the truth and converted then you fall away and publicly shaming the Son of God which is the Lord Jesus
I Love You All In Christ ✝️🕊

How much damage has done the Calvinism philosophy to the body of Yeshua, even a Pastor like David is afraid to confront that evil and false teaching about the salvation.
This text of Hebrews rebukes completely the Calvinism philosophy, the text is CLEARLY TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO ONCE WERE REGENERATED, it means people who were true believers but they fell from their faith.
When pastor David tries to point out a parallelism between PEOPLE WHO ONCE WERE REGENERATED and the Pharisees or apparently Christian believers is misunderstanding the text: the epistle is talking about people who were once REGENERATED and it’s clearly saying that it’s imposible that these people become regenerates AGAIN.
This word “AGAIN” shows clearly that they were once REGENERATED and they fell away from the faith and, because of that, from their regeneration or salvation.
There are many examples in the Bible and in the real life of this, even people who once were pastors and awesome preachers have apostasted from their faith.
One remarkable example of that was CHARLES TEMPLETON who was a preacher even more famous than Billy Graham, he wrote a book denying his former faith and trying to persuade Christians to leave their belief.
The real life and the word of God is full of examples like those. The apostasy is a true and a fact that the evil Calvinism philosophy has tried to deny.
Calvino was a wicked man who burnt many people who disagree with him in the fire.
Miguel Servet was burnt alive along with his books of theology and medicine for Calvino in Ginebra.
Calvino was a false teacher and a wicked man who never repented himself for murdering other believers, that disagree with him, in a gruesome way.

      In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus said...
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Jesus never refuted the fact that they did indeed accomplish those actions, but they did so without ever knowing Him, and thus, they were never saved. There are some that God will use or His glory that look like Christians, but are not.
Hebrews 6 seems to describe those kinds of people.
      Blessings as you follow Jesus!

    This isn’t a biblical message. This is an opinion. Hebrews 6 scares people, so they go looking for a preacher to tell them that it doesn’t mean what it says. They want a Preacher to tell them what they want to hear and not what the Bible says. They can’t endure the truth because the truth scares them. They are the people that Paul was talking about in 2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

@@criticallycheesycaleb6681 I can easily show the Calvinist where they’re doctrine is wrong now. At one time their way of thinking was partially correct. God made a promise to Abraham that his seed beginning with him and Isaac(Jewish people) would be his people and he would be their god. Everyone else was consider gentiles and didn’t stand a chance. That all changed with the coming of Jesus. Galatians 3 really disproves their doctrine, especially the 28th verse of that chapter.
