Same here! I would personally find it fitting if he made these strained, raspy breathing/gasping noises. Kind of like a zombie, now that I think about it. With these 2 extra effects, I would be pretty unsettled.

Eh, they don't really realize it's not real, they just get used to it. If you move the scarecrows around every few days, change them up a bit every now and then, and put a human looking mask on it they work pretty well.

Set in an American small town, characters dying one by one, side characters getting killed off immediately after being introduced, overly long suspenseful scenes with predictable jumpscares, characters abandoning weapons instead of keeping them, utterly intangible and immortal monster, ambiguous ending, final girl... This is pretty much "Horror Movie Tropes: The Movie".
And don’t forget sending one or two police officers to a scene and then no others when they most likely die

Having actually seen this film, it's really not bad... for a scifi channel movie, anyway. It's no 'Snowbeast', by any means, but it's slightly more watchable than their usual dreck. Faint praise, of course, but scifi channel films are painfully terrible 95% of the time. So it's a low bar to be better than average.
"IT MAKES ITS WAY UP HIS RECTUM"... The most unfortunate phrase ever used to describe something in a horror movie.

@@robin3746 I disagree. It’d be so easy to shoot this at night and completely shroud the monster In darkness so you can’t even see it, like so many terrible films have before. Sure the cgi isn’t great. But at least you can see what the hells going on. I feel some unwarranted desire to give this film credit where it’s due even though it deserves nothing but scorn and hate!

You know, I really thought the teacher asking the students for their phones was a clever way of disposing of the phones. Then they just HAD to have one of the kids steal their phones back. I love how the monsters from previous movie reviews are established characters and that they used in other reviews.
To be fair: Scarecrow seems to be better than most of the movies you've reviewed so far.
Just barely better is not good enough. The only good thing about this film is the design of the "scarecrow".

I think this scarecrow looks vaguely like what would happen if there was a crow-specific variant of SCP 610 that for some arbitrary reason favors roughly humanoid features (seriously it looks like it's made of or covered with feathers for some unholy reason)

Harold The Scarecrow from _Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark_ wasn't even a scarecrow at all. It's basically a corpse hanging on the crops that is 10x more terrifying.
In the original story Harold really was just a Scarecrow the two farmers made which came to life.

Even if it didn't puncture everything you said it should have, wouldn't it have severed his spine too?
How to make a scarecrow movie.
Step 1: Don’t make a scarecrow movie. Unless your working for DC. Then make a good Batman movie.
Step 2: research source material. As in cartoons and comic books.
Step 3: write a good script with a slow burn horror. If you can make it his origin story.
Step 4: pick good actors.
Step 5: don’t give him super powers! He’s a chemist. His fear toxin are chemicals. Not some mysterious supernatural ability.
Step 6: don’t make it cheesy.
Step 7: don’t try to force the horror make it feel natural. Show a slow dissent into madness and paranoia that eventually creates scarecrow. Like a losing his job at a chemical company and it slowly derails from there.
Step 8: don’t try to have a big budget. Use ordinary items to make it feel more real.
Step 9: make sure scarecrows eventual final outfit matches his comic book appearance somewhat. Don’t try to make it look all black and scary. A scarecrow hat, a gas mask combined with a tan scarecrow mask, and an orange shirt would do nicely
Edit: Step 10: For the outfit to make sense make the movie take place around Halloween.

Oh my gosh, I REMEMBER catching this by chance one late night. I was flipping through channels when I saw the movie title 'Scarecrow' just starting. I have had experiences with their 'originals' and all of them have been awful. However, I like Scarecrows as a horror trope so I was curious to see where it went.
Deep down because it was so bad I really wanted SOMEONE to review it. So glad you are. More people should review that channel's movies. XD
Honestly the best part is the design of the Scarecrow. Doesn't really look like one, but it's suitably creepy and one of the better cgi things from these tv movies.

The scarecrow actually has a pretty good design and had the potential to be genuinely scary, it would've been better if it looked like that way because it was already burnt before and it didn't work and it wasn't out in the daylight as often, or when it was it was practical effects.

It's always weird how crows fall for scarecrows, but they're smart enough to make tools and track where a hidden object is under a leaf. New Caledonian crows also are known for finding tools used by other crows and figuring out how to use them, as well as adjusting them to better fit the job they were for.
I guess they thought that making the creature look more like a scarecrow would make it look dumber or less scary. I can kind of agree with that excuse, but if they wanted to make a scarecrow monster they should've at least made him out of straw. Why is it made of branches?
You can make a scarecrow look scary without deviating from what a scarecrow is. Don't excuse bad design sense for logical thinking. Anything can be made scary without deviating too much from what it is with enough effort and creativity put in. This is just par with SyFy films in general: shitty cash grabs that people forget about a couple or so days after they're released.
I don't know. I knew a farmer who adorned his actual scarecrow with dentures, fake eyes, and a 24" dildo. It was pretty scary.

Ugh the town I recently moved to has an annual "build-a-scarecrow" event as part of our downtown "festival"...so, it's not unlike this movie's scarecrow festival.
And people have them posed on their porches and in seemingly-purposely creepy places year-round. When we moved here I was so confused at why people have "fake burglars" (my words for the phenomenon initially) because they literally look like silhouettes posed as if trying to enter people's windows and shit. It's so weird.

Not gonna lie, this movie had potential and it seems they were multiple plot points cut from the movie, and the creature design was awesome. CGI was actually great for a low budget movie.

I actually saw another horror movie that was called "Scarecrow" before. It was also pretty bad, but the said Scarecrow in this other Scarecrow movie actually looked more like, well, a Scarecrow. It also spawned 3 sequels and had him doing some actually Farm-related kills, though some of those said kills were kind of ridiculous like choking a person to death with a cob of corn, and others were either off-screen or had bad green-screening effects.
In the other Scarecrow movie, basically it starts with some teenager who gets bullied a lot in school and has a very unpleasant life, until one day some hoodlums chase him into a corn field and murder him, while he happens to be right beside a scarecrow, then make it look like a suicide. After that, his ghost possesses the scarecrow and then he goes on a killing spree each night, making Freddy Krueger-ish one-liners and doing several farm-related kills. I'd tell you more but maybe you should see it and its sequels yourself. You are a connoisseur of garbage anyways.

I design monsters and this "scarecrow" looks a lot like my Lankman creature... Mine moves in a much more bizzarre and unnatural way and it looks a bit stranger.
