  • Today we have a 2009 Toyota Prius that has a master warning light/hybrid warning light on. We noticed that the A/C would come and go as well. We scanned for codes and found code P0A93 stored. We checked the inverter coolant level and found it full, then active tested the inverter pump with a scan tool and found that it was running, but it wasn't flowing any coolant. After determining the coolant pump was bad we walk you through the process of replacing the hybrid inverter water/coolant pump. This is a fairly common problem on the second generation Prius and the process is the same for 2004 Toyota Prius, 2005 Toyota Prius, 2006 Toyota Prius, 2007 Toyota Prius, 2008 Toyota Prius, and 2009 Toyota Prius.

I completed this exact job yesterday. It was a heck of a job due to the tight space.
You're lucky that your car only threw a code. My car completely shut off while I was driving 40 miles an hour down the street. Even after my car is set for a few hours, and I got it restarted, the code never appeared.
I'm sure you know this by now, but it is a MUCH easier job if you just take off the front left headlight. I thought taking off the headlight was a hard job, but based on the video I watched it's extremely easy. It would have saved so much time and hand injuries. 😂
Just the same as you, I did not use the new bracket, because that would have involved more work.

Man I wish I would’ve seen this before I did my pump a few months ago. That bracket is a bit of extra work to take off, that bolt that goes to the body is in a tight spot. Not a huge deal but would’ve saved me time to just take off the pump and put new pump on the old bracket.

I was driving in the Palm Desert in California yesterday (115°F) and my car threw this code. I’m going to attempt this repair myself soon. My question is, will running the car after connecting the tubes naturally clear air out of the system? Is there anything special needed to clear the system of air after installing the new pump?

Keep the reservoir cap off and the reservoir full while running. After about 5 minutes, all the air will be out and out the cap back on.
