WOW!!! I am so impressed with your knowledge, masterful teaching skills, and precise explanation of the components of this hybrid inverter converter. Thank you for sharing your experience as a Master Technician. You are a valuable asset for the new breed of automotive technicians. Glued to your videos...😁😁😁
hi, i am a toyota, hybrid tech, let me say, your kinda of a advanced hybrid course in depths. i transmit alot of your knowledge to my coworkers , by disassembling an HV battery, and they adore to see real shit live, believe me. I haved shared your you tube video’s and they just, like it , so thanks a lot for passing your knowledge to all of us. have nice one
This is the second video I've seen from you and it seems that you have a lot of knowledge about hybrid vehicle's. It's amazing how much knowledge you know about it . I'm not a mechanic I don't know anything about electric vehicles but I really love this especially with someone that explains every single detail . Keep up the good work you are doing. You are very very educational!!
It might be an idea to explain to your students that the low voltage output must be electromagnetically decoupled (for safety) from the high voltage stage with an isolation transformer typically inverted by an H-Bridge. The high voltage side typically uses buck-boost topology since there is not any direct user contact and greater efficiencies can be achieved than with a traditional transformer. Sinusoidal PWM, 3-phase bridges and resolver (PMSM) could be another subject. And while on the subject explain why some 3-phase motors such as the coolant pump motors only have 2 wires and no resolver or rotary encoder for position sensing as they employ sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC). Just a few ideas for future content. Keep up the good work, always good to see! Cheers!
Yes indeed you right but during the training course... but if we apply this deep technical language here in the channel, for sure people will go crazy 😅😅😅
An isolation transformer does not electromagnetically decouple anything. Quite the opposite. An isolation transformer magnetically couples the primary and secondary coils together but it electrically isolates primary and secondary circuit. It's galvanic isolation.
In my opinion there was lack of coolant or driver used all the time sport mode and accelerate a lot where boost inverter built on H bridge from theese four bigger transistors gives then higher voltage so input current is higher and this overheats igbts. I think toyota figure it out and around 1 year ago there was service action in my country where toyota uploaded for free newer software to avoid thermal stress of igbts ;) good video but showing simple schematic how these igbts are connected would explain more to others ;)
I love your video's, so thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have used your channel just to learn more about hybrids, as well as repair my father in laws 2007 Camry Hybrid battery. Battery bank 6 or the 12th cell was bad (6.5v vs 7.9v on all the others) I was able to tear the battery apart, perform a thorough cleaning (duct work, fan, battery cells and battery connections) , find the bad cell, replace the bad cell, balance the cells, and rotate the cells to get it running again. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing that Jose, very interesting content. Good to see the IGBT’s in the Prius inverter. I was unaware of the thermal gel. Goes to show the importance of a functioning cooling system 👍🏻
@Hybrid Solution Diagnostics good day, How can I test an inverter on a 2011 Toyota Camry hybrid? The car won't start and say pre charge contactor stuck closed.
My friend, you are a genius. I blew an IGBT on 2012 prius inverter in California.. I have found a specific issue possibly relating to cold start and giving it full throttle from cold start. Twice. 2 different cars. Same situation. Immediately P0A04. Possibly some safeguards that do not come online Immediately? I disassembled one inverter and found shorted IGBTs
For some reason I thought you were in PR. I'm guessing not, or at least hoping so. What a tragic mess... Love your videos either way. I care for 6 gen 2 Prii and bought a Prolong system, so your info has been great!
Fantastic one mate…your explanation is wow… I’m having the same trouble with 2011 Camry and customer replaced Inverter (not a brand new) , but still got P0A94-127 and while driving it shut the vehicle to stop, do you have any advise for me?
Awesome video. I have 2 prius, a 2010 and 2013. On the 2013 I replaced the inverter converter with a 2015 unit and it works just fine. But for the 2010 I wonder if a newer inverter converter works too. I searched in a toyota website the inv-conv model and it shows that it fits only 2010- 2011 models. I wonder if they're compatible with newer models.
*Awsome video*.... Now thats a mega battery charger! ya that gel is pretty cool stuff.. do you save all that thermal paste... lucky for that resister at the start where you went to touch those 2 terminals i thought mmm is there a shorted diode somewhere inside haha, but good to see your showing the internals an explaining the workings of things.
Awesome video, thank you! My wife's RX450h has experienced an issue where the "Check Hybrid System" message was showing followed by a yellow triangle with exclamation point inside it BUT NO red symbol that showed. After letting the vehicle cool a lot... it was back to normal. This has happened twice and around one year apart. In each case, it was either a hot day and/or the car was enduring a bit of strained type driving (in the mountains). The most recent time (last week), after it happened and left us stranded in the mountains, I got it towed home and ran my inexpensive code reader where it came up with codes P2601 and P3000. Unfortunately, I did clear those codes and the issue has not occurred again since my wife only drives a short distance to/from work. Could this be an issue with the inverter or inverter cooling pump or wiring? I can only assume that the damaged inverter you are showing must have given the vehicle owner a red light versus a yellow. Since my car continues to drive okay with no further warning lights or messages, I am hoping the inverter is okay and it is something with the inverter coolant pump. I read somewhere that it might be a stuck invertor pump impeller... could that be intermittent enough to only occur during certain conditions like when it is out outside and the vehicle is being driven relatively hard? Thanks!
Thank you very interesting. I have P060B HV Battery ECU error code. Replaced all the electronics in the HV battery still the error cannot clear. What else can it be? Problem started out with needing the 12v aux battery replacement.

Very well done and very helpful video. My 2024 Corolla Hybrid has left me and my wife on the side of the road waiting for a tow with warnings like call dealer, low voltage on battery, hybrid system failure; basically dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree. The ECU has been swapped in and out 4 times so far. 12 volt battery has been replaced once. Code p279986. It's been towed to 2 dealers. They can't pinpoint the problem. The latest clue is the 12 volt battery is receiving 20 volts for charging, (way too much in my opinion). We bought this on November 22, 2023. It is now April 27, 2024. It been in the shop for 6 weeks. Total miles 2051. I suggested that it might be the DC to DC Converter. Any thoughts?
