    Hi Nigel, I think that what makes sense is to switch completely to the L-mount system. The only issue is that your RUclips channel was built on showcasing cheap and affordable gear, and your identity is based on that. However, you are a very talented filmmaker, and your value extends beyond just discussing M43 gear. So, you can probably find affordable options within the L-mount system as well, which could be useful for both Lumix and Blackmagic L-mount cameras, like those 7Artisans Vision lenses, for example. Essentially, things have changed, and you need to continue moving forward on your journey. Cheers!

    Good video. I'm thinking the same thing. And I think that I will not refuse either the Panasonic Fullframe or the Micrо 4/3. Matrix full frame... what is there to comment on, it’s great. But when we talk about the freedom of the video operator, about reporting, about trips and travel, then we need a compact camera with small, lightweight lenses. I think that the difference in Panasonic camera formats is insignificant. Fullframe and micro 4/3 are different tools for different tasks. There is something very valuable that the different cameras in the system have in common: controls and color modes. Yes. It is most important. The most important thing is ideology. What Panasonic cameras are designed around. And what form factor they have depends on our goals. It's very good to have freedom of choice.

    I too gave up speed boosting but quit totally after some lens connection issues at a wedding on the GH5.
    I was in the same position at the end of 2023 and ended up selling my m43 stuff! I think I'm all in on L mounts for the time being. Cheers!

      Yeah I'm still debating but two s52x's seems like a pretty nice set up for me right now, or maybe even just a OG s% to keep with the budget side of my channel. I still love how good the Gh5 is though haha

    It might be a mistake but I’m sticking M43 mostly for the zoom lens sizes. When I travel those full frame lenses are huge… I also hate the crop in different frame rates ( I think that’s still happening w the S5iix?)

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 6 месяцев назад

      As an owner of a G9 and S5, I am still leaning towards the G9 for travel due to the much smaller lens sizes. There is some compromise in image quality, low light performance and shallow depth of field, but those compromises are largely worth it for the smaller and lighter travel kit. The S5 equalizes the size advantage somewhat if using the small Sigma f2 primes, but zoom lenses are a different story.

    For me as primarily a wedding filmmaker, I like having full frame for my Canon R6 because it captures more light, and shooting in Clog3, you need a TON of light. However, when I rent the Canon C70 and shoot Clog2, the DR and image quality is so good, the fact it's a super 35 doesn't even matter to me.

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 6 месяцев назад

      R6 vs C70 is an apples and oranges situation because the sensors are different. Not just size, but architecture. The C70 has a DGO sensor which maximizes dynamic range, whereas Canon's R6 sensor is still a lower performer for dynamic range than the Sony sensors used by Sony, Nikon and Panasonic.

    It usually comes down to use case. My only paid work is forensic photography of major electrical events, both equipment failure and/or injuries. In these scenarios depth of field is king. Therefore I stick with my 4/3 system. My X-T2 sits on the passenger seat as my "camera at hand" most of the time. Landscape and the like, my D700s, especially with how detailed the files can be (if needed) with high res software, which improves with each update. Also, other than forensic work, no one sees my photos in any form but prints. A great equalizer of sensor differences.

    • @JensMowatt
      @JensMowatt 6 месяцев назад +1

      I guess because the crop factor applies to the aperture a 4/3 sensor would have a higher equivalent f stop? If my math is correct, a 4/3 sensor at f/22 is more like f/33 on full frame, which is impossible on pretty much every camera. So I guess that's why a smaller sensor is better for your use case? Never thought of it that way.

    I guess many of us are in the same boat. I bought myself the S5ll because low light became an issue during family party's and I did want to get as much memories on tape as possible. I still kept the G9 which is a great camera when enough light isn't an issue. I thought about keeping it and getting some bigger lense, impossible to get for the S5 by that weight, and use it mainly for hiking and stuff.
    The first time I packed my backpack with the S5 I was shocked about the fact the space ran out that quickly. A body, two lenses, some accessories and that was it. I was used to carrying almost all of my mft lense and still left with space 😅

    One perspective that may be helpful, is if one thinks in terms of what SHOTS you’re going for (such as WIDE, TIGHT…) versus what sensor size…I really like the idea of portability, so when I need a shot that’s more TELE (Telephoto) I think Micro Four Thirds works REALLY well, because you can use something like a 1990s 70-300 and get a really good shot and the lens is small. Getting the same shot ON A FULL FRAME camera…would mean a super big and expensive 600mm!! Then, on the other side of things, I think full frame has some advantages when it comes to getting a WIDE shot. First of all, the focal length needed for a WIDE on full frame can be around 24, 28 or even 35, lenses which are far more common (on the vintage market) than an equivalent wide lens for Micro Four Thirds (12, 14, 17mm, etc.) Plus, in terms of realistic distortion, the lenses with a focal length closer to the “ideal” non-distortive 42.5mm, just feel more real…and of course vintage 50mm lenses are super common, and cheap (if you don’t need AF anyway)…but the bottom line in my opinion is that the smaller sensors are better for TIGHT/TELE shots, and full frame is better for more non-distortive WIDE shots.

    I agree that having APS-C and FF on the same lens mount is a huge advantage for sony. I'm disappointed that panasonic seem unwilling to make an APS-C camera for the L mount, I think it would be a great entry point into the system as well as be an option for people who like working with smaller sensors. Realistically, as you point out, it's all about the lens systems - nobody is going to want to keep two sets of lenses hanging around even if they really enjoy using smaller sensors. I know they'd be worried about cannibalizing their MFT sales, but you know who's also doing that? Sony.

    I have a GH5s and a G9 (I am a true hybrid shooter) and last year I bought a GX9 for street photography but then I coveted the Fujifilm X-pro3 and I bought a used one for a very good price so then I had the dual system conundrum.
    I settled on Lumix MFT for Video and Fujifilm for photography so I sold the GX9 and also my ‘Pro’ photography lenses and used the money to buy a used X-T3 and a couple of lenses.
    Today I have negotiated with MPB to buy a GH5ii and sell them the G9 because that gives me two video-centric cameras.
    Also I bought two Angelbird 128 v90 cards back in the day and then I tried the Lexar Professional V60 cards and they also work fine on the high codecs although it’s a bit of a moot point now as I have a pair of Atomos Ninja Vs!

    As a Canon M-mount guy I'm definitely starting to look at Canon R cameras or even like Sony cameras because obviously the M-mount is discontinued. But the RF glass is limited especially on the budget side, so I'm sticking with my M6 II for a while since it still is good enough. But I am always thinking about that next upgrade!

    I've had issues with Speedboosters as well. My XL began to give my G9 issues when using an EF mount zoom lens - during events, the camera would lock up and the current file would not write to the card. This happened rarely at first, but became more and more regular until I had to stop using the XL + zoom combination. I switched back to native lenses on the G9 and have had no issues since. As for L mount vs m43, I shoot with both because of the size/weight factor, and find the G9 a very suitable B cam along with the S5 and native lenses.

    I owned a GH5 for years then switched to the S5. Since you have an S5iix, I think the S5 might be a good companion. I did miss a few things on the GH5. Better IBIS, screens, and fast readout, but I strongly preferred the colors of the S5. I never had an issue with the smaller hdmi port so that was not a factor for me. I personally like m43 a lot and would consider the G9ii if it weren't so darn big. I ended up getting rid of everything and getting a Sony ZV1 and I couldn't be happier. I'm having a lot of fun working within the limitations of that camera, and if I get into a project that needs something else, I'd be looking at another Sony.

    Hi,
    Totally in a similar situation...shooting mostly multicam concerts on tripod having S5org,P6K and P4K,GH5,5s
    With EF lens you could adapt P6K lens to L mount so it is not a total waste of money. Canon got some great Relatively cheap lens for FF 24-105 F4,70-200 2.8 IS.
    But for with MFT I have no idea...for me personally it's depend what event I am shooting (up to 10 cameras)
    Usually I start with A cam P6K,after S5 org with Ninja V or BM assist,then P4K,GH5s,GH5 and if needed GH4...
    Got plenty of cheapo great MFT lenses TT,7 artisans, Mitakon Lumix MFT...the mythical sigma 18-35 (Nice with P6K anyway)...
    Curious what will be with MFT...and if it has a chance to survive when FF bodys are so cheap...what has MFT to offer vs an iphone,or FF?I wonder?
    New MFT models are mostly aimed to old MFT shooter which have still some MFT lens left like us...
    Personally P4K has the best IQ to date...and it is a 6 year old cameras...you get good results with GH6 but I doubt much better...more Resolution of course...and GH9ii has a good AF...
    GH7😅😅😅??? Be or not to be...

    All Panasonic needs to do is a make an L mount aps-c camera and then it could start competing even more with Sony. Part of the reason I love the E mount is I can get lenses and they work seamlessly between my apsc camera and my full frame.

    General speaking, the SD card companies will write the read speed, and hide the write speed a bit, like the Sandisk extreme pro V3 card is actually write 90MB/S, the older version of it reads at 95MB/S, later the specific UHS-II SD card reader can read to 170MB/S, and now it is 200MB/S read, but I believe the write will be the sam, and you need specific reader to achieve the speed.

    Im Struggling with the same question. I have the g9ii love it, but think about adding an s5ii, but then the two lens systems feels daunting. I feel like for now I’m going to stick with mFT and if I see a good deal on an OG s5 I might pick it up to use with my vintage lenses, maybe one native prime. The thing that keeps me stuck to mft is the small telephoto lenses. 200-600mm equivalent in my jacket pocket is hard to give up. But it’s the 70-200 range that really gets me. I love having it and found it so cumbersome when I shot full frame. I’m curious about that new 28-200.
