I am 27 and trying to learn playin violin. Just discovered your website and videos today. I cannot describe how much I appreciate what you are doing. Thank you so much.
I love hearing you fiddle! Especially Orange Blossom Special ! Excellent teaching video. I like the double E stop played more prominently in second stanza, but that was a pretty lick sliding up and away with the double E quick like. Thanks First Fiddleman!
Wow!! I love this!! I’ve not played my violin in years, and recently decided I wanted to pull it back out to play. Of course I need new strings and rosin and shoulder pad. I just ordered some supplies from your online shop, and while looking up a video on using a tuning fork, I found your channel! How fun! The couple videos of yours I’ve now watched have really fueled my desire to play again. I can’t wait for my strings to arrive so I can start playing again! Thank you!! 😁
it's greaat to see you back FiddlerMan. Even though I don't have my violin anymore I still enjoy watching and listening. hopefully ya can do tutorial on some Irish songs like whiskey in the jar. I plan on getting back to fiddling though in the near future once I have time. :)
Hello Mr Fiddlerman. First of all I want to congratulate you. Excellent musician and teacher, his videos are very didactic and productive. I watched several of your videos where you also rate violins. I am a luthier here in Brazil, with certain roots in Italy. I buy your strings through your representative here in Brazil and I can say: How wonderful and sound they are. Once again, congratulations my friend. receive a big hug.
holy crap. i've never seen this kind of teaching before. it's perfect for someone like me! and i love the way you edited yourself into the boat at the end hahaha
Thanks, this is a tune that I always like going back to as I feel I can play it pretty well. I've been snagging some of your sheet music lately and letting my instructor know that this is what I want to work on next. The last one was Sound of Silence, but right now I'm working on John Ryan's polka, June Apple, and Mississippi Sawyer. And I really appreciate my Fiddler Man Carbon Fiber bow and shoulder rest. Thanks for the videos and lessons you provide.
👏Bravo! Welcome back, Fiddlerman! You're the best and a cut above the rest. Thanks for the tune. BTW: "Old Joe Clark" is not only a great sounding tune on my violin, but also sounds great on my harmonica and concertina too. BTW: It's amazing how you can make one violin sound like two. 👍 ♫ 😊
Thanks so much Christopher. I really appreciate that. Yes you're right, this tune with the open strings and double stops make it sound like several violins. LOL I wish I played the harmonica as well.
@@1stfiddlermanYou're welcome, Fiddlerman - It was I playing the harmonica for more than 51 years with "feeling, phrasing, vibrato [note bending] and all that good stuff" that got me interested in learning to play the violin (fiddle). BTW: I first heard "Old Joe Clark" on a Honky Tonk (tack) piano played by Squeek Steele in volume two of her Old West Saloon Piano "The Good Old Songs of the West" CD. 🎻 🎹 ♫
That was excellent! Thanks for sharing. Would you consider doing a lesson on getting good tone? The sound you get out of every violin I've seen you play is excellent regardless of the price.
Good point. I could do it but finding the secret to getting a good tone is based on so many factors when it comes to technique. I'm not saying that I wouldn't be able to take most of that on a video but try being your own teacher and analyze three things. Bow speed, bow contact location, and bow pressure. These are factors that greatly affect tone. Another thing that affects tone is how hard you press the string down with your left hand fingers. As you probably notice, the sound is better on an open string, which equals more left hand finger pressure. Obviously not so much that it causes pain or future issues. :) Good luck, and thanks for watching!!!
@1stfiddlerman Interesting. I like to think I'm aware of the bow pressure, speed and contact and try to practice those skills. I've never been told about the relationship of left hand pressure on the strings and it's affect on tone.
@@1stfiddlerman excellent! today I played staccato as you taught in the video. It was difficult for me to understand how to perform it, but I learnt it from your video. Yippee 🙌
It's waaay out of my league, for now, but any chance you might do Tallahassee? I'm learning and while I'm nowhere near ready to play it, I'm proud I can spell it, but I really enjoy and learn by watching you and following the music. Thank you for everything you do for all of us.
It's 5, 2, 5 on the first part and the second part is 5, 2, 5, 4, 5. Or to be more exact you have G, D, G twice in the first part then G, D, G, F, G. Hope that helps. Did you like the cushion tip? Some people might like a shorter staccato in which case you don't need to land with the angled hair.
This calls for my fiddler man carbon fiber bow. And no I don't use it all the time I don't know why I just try to save it. When I'm just doing regular goofing around like 1 minute bow or whatever I use my cheap bow
I love how you teach. From beginner to advanced in less than 5 minutes in one video. Also like the music scrolling along. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Thanks so much for the kind words. It encourages me to make more videos. :) Thanks for watching.

Also the open A is a important harmony I had not used! Thanks Fiddlerman!
It sure is. 😁 Thanks for watching.
Got here to learn this on the mandolin. This helps me so much. Thanks.
Nice. I always wanted to lear mandolin as well. Maybe I'll take it up.
