Yeah, this episode was great. An episode every other month about rediculous shit in history would be great. Side note, if Cooper was in the military its possible he had other gear with him to change into after he told the attendant to go behind the curtain and not look back there before he jumped. He was nice enough to the crew that he could have known what the dummy chute was and took it with him to be sure no one else would end up grabbing it if shit went bad after he jumped.
There is so much mystery with the time no one saw him, for all we know he could have brought a parachute with him (his luggage was never checked) and took the 2 bad choices to throw people off, with just how brilliantly the hijacking was performed it it fuels conspiracy

If you do another one of these, I would reccomend the "Jack the Ripper" case. It's extremely heavily documented and catalogued in the London Police Records, and there's a mountain of suspects. However, only a handful make any sense so it's a little less intimidating. That or the original Zodiac Killings. I mainly chose those two because, much like the D.B. Cooper case, they remain unsolved. Although, I think we have found who the Zodiac was. But, I don't know if it was definitive.
@@ZyroShadowPony If you haven't seen LEMMiNO's video on it, it's pretty great. There are two types of chutes: Box chutes and ram chutes. Box chutes require some skill to use as they're actually little flying wings. Both chutes can twist on deployment. The box chute and has steering toggles, requiring some extra training to use. They also take longer to deploy. Ram chutes are the first form of parachute, requiring less training to use. Because they aren't a flying wing, deployment twists will undo themselves on descent. They also deploy faster, which is useful if you're being airdropped from a plane flying low. They were the first form of parachute. Ram chutes can be minimally steered by pulling the lines on one side, but you're mostly just hoping to land somewhere relatively safe. The military now uses both types of chutes.
Dyatlov has been solved as being a case of a slab avalanche. Everything checked out and it was the most serious study so far. Really recommend reading the Nature article on it.

Okay so I watched it. It explained that it might be possible that an avalanche also hit them but it doesnt explain everything. (Like the radiation or the missing body parts.) Also they say that if a block of snow hits you from above it could look like a car hit you. So they cut up their tents, ran down a hill and laid down? Also 2 of them were holding eachothers hand. Its really hard to hold onto someone while being carried away by an avalanche. Also why were the tents unharmed other than the cuts from the inside?
Military parachutes are circular with the hole on the top because it helps them reach the ground faster, steerable ones focus more on drifting forward which would throw off deployments.
*On parachutes:* Military round parachutes (for airborne troops and pilots) can be steered a _little._ It is less than the big ram air (rectangle) chutes (which spec ops use). But they have a lower speed hitting the ground. Ram air chutes glide forward at 10 to 25 mph in addition to their downward fall speed. This means you need to be more skilled to land safe. A military pilot might be hurt ejecting from a damaged plane, and a paratrooper is loaded down with heavy gear, making the round chute the better choice for those jobs. Or jumping from a plane with a big bag of cash.

Good April Fool's, but legit maybe make this a monthly or quarterly thing. Also, Warhammer anything is definitely cringe, while true crime is based, whatever all that means.
regarding the parachutes.. back then, the squarish steerable parachutes we tend to be most familiar with today were still pretty new, and hadn't adopted them, not even for special operations units. Military parachutes were still pretty much the WW2 half-dome canopy types. (there had been some tweaks to them by the 70's, like a small vent in the canopy to let out a stream of air that let them be steered a little bit, but it was still primarily just "jump, pull cord, float down". modern military forces have adopted the square steerable parachutes for most special operations units, as it lets them be dropped off at a distance and then glide their way towards their objectives. thus reducing the risk to the transport they're deploying from. but the circular dome type is still the 'standard' variety for Parachute Landing Operations. since those will usually fill the sky with hundreds of people at once, which would make attempting to steer actually dangerous. the danger of two chutes colliding and getting tangled or even collapsing and causing their users to fall to their deaths is high enough already in such operations, even today. its one of the reasons why they've developed very elaborate proceedures for deployment, use those droplines to automatically deploy the chutes, and so on. all meant to minimize the dangers of the airdrop itself. letting the troops try to fly themselves around at the same time would just make things worse.
Also in that region of the northwest, bones do not last a long time.. it's been tested heavily as part of the bigfoot hunting stuff, but the region's soil is acidic, and things like bones tend to break down and dissolve within months.

Edit: ya I was correct this was funny as hell DK being the true crime host is hilarious.
Perfect for an April fools day post
Genuinely really fun. I would like more of this. DK's passion whenever he's the fact sharer is awesome, but I also really like bricky's combination of lore and tabletop
Dude this was genuinely really good and interesting
Like I would totally listen to an unsolved mysteries podcast with y'all.
"The Unsolved Ridiculous"
The way the beginning of the video is set up makes it sound like the episode wasn't planned. It sounds like DK snuck onto the microphone when he was alone, started recording, and then Bricky just walks into the room like a surprised parent.
Wait this started as an April Fool's joke?!
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'd listen to anything you guys put out because you're fun
Good April Fool's, but legit maybe make this a monthly or quarterly thing.
Also, Warhammer anything is definitely cringe, while true crime is based, whatever all that means.
DK, thank you for some genuinely great content on this day of japery. Would love it if you did more episodes like this in the future.
Ok but hear me out, it’s an alpha legion episode
regarding the parachutes..
back then, the squarish steerable parachutes we tend to be most familiar with today were still pretty new, and hadn't adopted them, not even for special operations units.
Isn't he the guy who jump out of plane and never found again after stealing tons of money?
Yes
Yay! I hope they cover MK-Ultra next April 1st!
Dan Cooper is Alpharius confirmed
I also think thats how the episode will go
THIS WAS AMAZING! I loved every minute of it, wouldn’t mind having more of these as a patron perk or every few months
Buzzfeedus Unsolvedicus
DK: "We're going back to 40k next week."
All of Us: "...or you can make some more of these... please?"
Guys I suspect this is a joke because of the date of this day.
This is easily one of the best episodes that you guys have done yet, really hope we get to see more content like this in the future. Bravo to DK.
another alpha legion video?
April Fool’s or not.
I listened to you guys for a long time, help me through my early morning work days. Cover peanut butter for all I care.
DK kills DK.
Please do more of this, this was awesome and I will always tune in for your the Warhammer Ridiculousness but I need more of this mystery stuff in my veins. Adeptus Investicus lives lol
My partner watches your crap. I can legitimately say this DB Cooper thing is the first thing you've ever broadcasted I've been remotely interested in. Congrats on the joke.
Nice.
I listened from start to finish and it was AWESOME, great take on the story. Do more of these guys. Seriously.
@@telusman A lot of people seem to share you sentiment, so maybe they'll make it happen.
looking forward to the new Adeptus Mysterious channel
Omg that's a good name
Unironically a good episode
I'd listen to this as a weekly thing.
This is great guys! I know it was a one time thing but honestly, if you decided to do another show and talk about this stuff once a week too, I'd watch the hell out of it
