Over the Christmas weekend my friends and I played a 40k Horde mode made by poorhammer. It was basically four 500 point armies vs 5th faction that periodically spawns in reinforcements. I was the attacker because I have so many Necron models. T5 I rolled so well on my reinforcements that I spawned in all 4 ctan. It was hilarious.

Another thing to keep in mind is the whole myth around the Silent King might not be him sucking himself off but other dynasties sucking him off instead. While a lot of dynasties do hate him and will never listen to him there's also just as many that will drop whatever they're doing the second he asks something of them.
Honestly really funny imagining a dynasty saying all this shit to him and the king just goes Ciaphas Cain mode saying "haha yeah I definitely subjugated whole galaxies while you were asleep for you all and they definitely didn't get all devoured by Tyranids. Just for the sake of nostalgia tho let's try *really* hard to preserve this galaxy alright?"

There's not much point in leaving with army of robots, most of whom lack any really personality or independence; if he wanted to do that he couldve just left with all the necron in the first place and not bothered leaving them in the tomb worlds.

Perhaps the lords were just slightly distinguished from regular necrons, including keeping their consciousness, and units such as plasmancers and skorpekh destroyers were modified to suit their needs years later. The problem with a (Pre-Necron) Necrontyr "face-reveal" is that it is nearly implied that the C'tan erased the memory of the Necrontyr as a physical people from time itself when they swore alliegiance. People who see glimpses of the time 2-1 billion years ago before the War in Heaven report the blurred haziness as a silhouette of the Necron's physical body. Trazyn even comments that he cannot recover the memory of what he looked like during the Time of Flesh in the Infinite and the Divine. I think it's a fun idea to play around with the idea of a guilty king who stripped away his ostentation. Like he kinda looks like an ordinary necron, but there's an edge to him where you know he's not just an ordinary necron.
But the look they went for him is ostentatious without really making him seem as special as you'd expect for the leader of an entire faction. Idk, it's kinda midway there.

Necrons hard counter the Tyranids, so unlikely he lost against them to any strategically meaningful extent. Any fight, even a victory, is a net loss for the Tyranids if there's no biomass to scavenge, and Necron weapons destroy their targets on the atomic level, thus exacerbating the problem as not only do the 'Nids waste energy fighting with zero recovery from enemy losses (almost all of which respawn later due to reanimation protocols), they also are going to struggle to recycle any material from their own dead.
Bear in mind also that any fight taking place is probably fleet based in intergalactic space, or else on a dead rock orbiting one of the rare stars out there, the Tyranids aren't getting spoils in the form of planetary ecosystems either.

Little fan theory I have: when you look at old pics of the Eye of Terror, there was always that little gash in the middle of it like someone took a slice out of a cake. I assume that's roughly where Cadia was. My thinking is that when Cadia fell and the pylons were destroyed, it was the last of the Eye's chains being released. The Eye of Terror as we know was caused by the birth of Slaanesh. The great rift, I think, wasn't caused by some rebounding from the death of Cadia. The great rift is what the Eye of Terror was supposed to be. The giant fuck-off tear in reality would have been a day 1 thing were it not for the blackstone pillars keeping it contained to the Eye.

One point about extragalactic space: There are stars out there. Not nearly so frequently as inside galaxies, but they exist. Mostly they've been flung out by gravitational disturbances of one sort or another. You also have the various dwarf galaxies and star clusters which orbit the Milky Way (and are slowly being absorbed into it), best known of which are the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds. Being much closer, these are FAR more likely the places the Silent King was doing stuff, as opposed to Triangulum, Andromeda, etc.
This would also fit the 'creating barriers' theory, as by fortifying the sparse stars in intergalactic space, draining them of usable resources or outright moving them, you deny rest stops to anyone trying to make the crossing.

Actually the sleep probably saved most of their number's minds. If all of them were awake for that 60 million years , most likely majority of them would have driven insane.
The only necrons who were awake were Szarekh and his barely sentient crew on Song of Oblivion and a small number of Praetorians who were awake to keep an eye on the galaxy.
In Twice Dead Kings we see the nobility starts to unravel even before War in Haven ends.
Necrons are bound to a slow painful degredation and death. This is why Szarekh is so desperate. And this is why while I love Imotekh (and he has my vote in the upcoming necron civil war) he NEEDS to look into the fact that his people WILL eventually completely degrade...himself included.
I don't think that an EXACT replica of a necrontyr face but a sarcophagus's lid. A Phaeron's grave gilded and depicted as such. That beard thing is just an artistic choice on a mask I think
I don't think he went all on his own and conquered ENTIRE galaxies it is ridiculous. I think its at best the dwarf galaxies sorruounding milky way. Also the fact that it shows certain parts of this myths is straight up lie since technomandrites fucking HATES Szarekh and PRETEND subsercience. The necron codex talking about how the silent king was fighting other planets beyond the milky way raises up a lot of questions GW will never be bold enough to touch. And it puts a lot of legitimacy of the tyranids at risk.
For one, him just casually being outside and fighting others means the milky way isn't the last galaxy standing. There's more than what the tyranids have eaten. For another, it means there isn't a greater threat that forced the tyranids to us. If so, the Silent King would know about it and wouldn't be so afraid of the tyranids, but this threat following them.
Don't get me wrong, I like that they are building up the necron king of all kings up more, but they put a different faction's barely existing lore into a spot.

The "War of Aeons" can be read one of two ways: as a reference to a measure of time, and as a description of powerful celestial beings. Allow me to explain.
Gnosticism is...a lot. We don't have time to explain the Real Life religious movement that was Gnosticism. The relevant bit is that in Gnostic cosmology, there is a Source - the closest thing to True Divinity - from which all else emanates. These emanations, at their highest orders, are the Aeons. At the same time quasi-deities and abstract concepts, that exist in spiritual reality.
According to the Gnostics, the lowest of the Aeons made a mistake. "Got too silly", you might say, and committed a sin. That sin created the Demiurge, the creator of the physical world as we know it. Because the Demiurge was ignorant, arrogant, and otherwise flawed, he created the world wrong, making it a prison for human souls.
It's kind of fitting that the Necrontyr - who lived short and miserable lives of hard labor, sickness, and social stratification - would conceive their world similar to the Gnostics. A terrible prison, crafted by an evil creator. And that the only rational response, aside from trying to escape their frail and flawed bodies, would be to rise to the heavens and kill the gods. (In this case, the Old Ones are arguably the Aeons, and the Ctan are arguably the Archons, servants of Demiurge and jailkeepers for mortal souls. It's not a perfect metaphor.)

The abilities of the blank and their lack of a soul are the result of having a certain gene (that's why the necron pariahs were cyborgs, the biological aspect is important), the lack of a soul in the necrons gives them protection from many dangers of the warp, but does not give them the abilities of the blank.

    • @letendreelliott8778

I’m pretty sure it’s never been established that Blanks are "soulless" it’s just one off those things that people theorized about and people just assumed it as fact.
Blanks have emotions and personality that aren’t just copies of former ones (like Necrons). It’s much more likely that they do have souls but those souls repel the Empyrean instead of feeding it.
