  • On my second day in Kuching, I took my camera along to show my RUclips family what this incredible city has to offer, and I can honestly say, I’ve fallen in love with it! Strolling along the waterfront, everything about Kuching feels different from any other city or town I’ve explored in Borneo. The streets are clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there’s no shortage of sights to experience.
Known as the City of Cats, Kuching blends its rich history with modern charm. From the serene floating Indian Mosque to the striking pedestrian bridge spanning the Sarawak River, this city is a perfect mix of old and new. You can feel the legacy of the White Rajah Dynasty around every corner, making it a must-see destination for anyone exploring Borneo.
After just two days here, Kuching has quickly earned a spot in my top 30 cities to recommend to anyone traveling. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

Of course, Sarawak is the safest state when compared to other states in Malaysia because the majority of the population is Christian. Sarawak is the most suitable state for non-Muslims to live in 👌👍❤

Kuching city look quiet because the people always keep low profile but Sarawak is a high income state in Malaysia with GNI per capita US$13,205.00. Today Sarawak is a Renewal Energy hub because Sarawak want to become the cleanest enviromental state in Malaysia......enjoy your stay in Kuching City and most people in Sarawak can speak English very well....don't feel hesitate to mingle with locals....

@@olderbackpacker come back anytime, mate. Oh and by the way, if you ever return to Kuching, come and try Terung Dayak soup (a savoury, tangy vegetarian soup and it is sometimes made into a type of sambal), Manok Pansuk (chicken and tapioca leaves cooked in bamboo) and Kacang Ma (a type of herbal chicken broth) as these are what I would call unique(?) Sarawakian dishes. Though Kacang Ma is also consumed in mainland China, there, it is used as post-natal food, here in Sarawak, it's considered as a party food, funnily enough.

Its the only part of Malaysia where by its the opposite compare to the rest of the country. Its the cleanest city/territory and its majority christian. Kuching city is also the biggest city in the island of Borneo as of now. Unfortunately, not much of a highrise within the central business district which many says that Kuching City is a small town feeling.

For a European saying our ice cream is good is a big compliment. I still miss the American ice cream I had when I was studying there. I felt their ice cream and pecan pies are their greatest inventions. You talked about history which I, a 60 year old Sarawakian, did not know. I was wondering for some time how did Sarawak take so much of Brunei till Brunei is split into two, you explained that they were under duress and if the Brooks did not solve their rebellion problem, they would have had nothing.

    • @olderbackpacker
      @olderbackpacker  10 дней назад

The ice cream I had was really good. You need to go to the spot I went to get it.
I love history :) so I needed to do research to find out why it was Brunei and why they gave it up!

This must be one of the better walking video.
    Not mush shaking or jitter.
But maybe the panning should be a bit slower.
08:20 That would be the Square House.
There is a Round House, near the Post Office.
IIRC, all distances in Sarawak used to be calculated from the PO.
    Edit:
The "Slits" around the Fort are where the soldiers can shoot from inside the fort.
    Fun fact:
None of the White Rajahs are buried in KCH/Sarawak.
