The State legislative building is so unique that make you will always remember Kuching City just like Sydney Opera House in Auatralia. Actually the Architect for Kuching Waterfront are the same....
Ah, Kuching. Last July, I brought my 68 year old mom to this waterfront. Due to her advanced age, she has not been here for over a decade, worried that she could not drive here and back, which is only 45 minutes away from our home. So when she finally set foot on the waterfront, she was astonished by how much things has changed. She never envisioned the unique bridge, the colourful lights and the assortment of people just chilling around, saying that she felt like she was in a totally different city despite some familiar landmarks. She felt emotional, saying that she used to just chill and laze around these part of town when she was a teenager and now everything is different yet familiar. Her words were, and I am paraphrasing, "Wah, so beautiful hah. Your dad and I used to visit bars and listen to live bands in our 20s. Don't seem to have those anymore, haiya." I never expected that sort of reaction from her, because I never realised that she never bothered to go here on her own. I plan to bring her here everytime I return to Kuching, as I work in a different, much further and rural district.
The Brooke oblesk is about James (1st White Rajah) as well as Charles (James' nephew.) The white building behind it is North Kuching City Hall. Love your videos, keep up the great work. Kuching is soooooo wonderful.
As you say mate, amazing nighttime lights, so pleased you managed to recover the footage of the water display and the additional stuff from the bridge. Definitely a place for tourist to consider is Kuching. Very considerate of you not to disturb the fellow backpackers at the cost of another night mate.
The flag pole is the tallest in Malaysia and South East Asia costing RM30 million ringgit sponsored by Petros, Petronas and Shell oil and gas company in Sarawak.....
Such a shame the local government kicked out all the eateries along the riverside from the White Barouk to the light fountain. Some of the less bright locals believe they were responsible for river pollution. You only have to look at some of the riverside fishing communities using the river as a garbage dump and you will see where most of the pollution comes from.
What s stupid comment all the rubbish is collected by Treiniken Company twice a week. You are so racist to the Malay people. If kampung people throw rubbish in the river you will not see clean river like this today....
@@winwar516 Do you mean patrons and shopkeepers were throwing rubbish into the river? Why didn't local government just make the restaurants follow some rules? Did the cake stall near the White Baruok also throw rubbish into the river?
I agree with the closure of the shop there. It only has more negative effects and causes discomfort to visitors. Most visitors want to enjoy the scenery while breathing fresh air. They don't want to smell the food cooked by the street vendors there. Go to other places to do business, waterfront is not suitable because it is a tourist area

I would have stayed longer if my visa wasn’t running out lol
@@olderbackpacker I just applied for the 5 year Visa today. It's expensive but far less so than Sabah or Western Malaysia

I thought the river looked the cleanest I’ve seen in Borneo.

It's a good decision by the city hall. Previously it looked dirty and crowded because of illegal set up of food stall.
