- In this HVAC Training Video, I show Step By Step How to Ream and Swage Copper Tubing with each Type of Expanding Tool. I Swage the Copper Pipe with the Hydraulic Swaging Tool and Die, Hammer Punch, Manual Lever Expander, The Standard Swage Block Kit, and with the Spin Swage used in a drill! I use the Stick Reamer, Unibit, and Round Reamer to Prepare the ACR (Air Conditioning Refrigeration) soft copper. Swaging is done prior to Brazing or Soldering/Sweating the tubes together. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

You sure make the Hammer Swaging look easy !!!
Ha ha years of experience!
One thing I’ll say about all of your videos, you have an excellent way of explaining. Thank you for a great job 👍
Thanks a lot Shawn!
Great teaching aid Craig ... The young'ens should really appreciate it cause this wasn't around when we started ...
Thanks a lot Eddy!
I'd never seen the spin swage before... might be handy in some situations. Thanks.
They are another solution for sure. It is nice to have more possibilities for getting the job done! thanks!
Another excellent demonstration and video.
Thanks a lot Kenny!
You brought back some great memories of my HVAC schooling from long ago. I enjoy you teaching correctly how to do things. I also enjoy the new technology!
Thanks a lot Stevenowski!
A lot of good info. Very well done. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super Informative and helpful!!!!!!!
Very good!! , Se entendió perfectamente todo, me gusto la variedad de herramientas que mostraste.
Amazing 👏
Excellent
Thanks Luis!
Well done. Thanks 🌹😘
Glad to help!
Good job
thank you
You have nice explantions
Thank you very much
Thanks Mustafa!
Very Nice Good Job
Thanks glad to help!
Would you consider making a video about sheet metal work, since it is important to our industry. Thanks
Did you look up "acservicetech sheet metal tools" ? Also I did one on cutting in a filter rack and another on bending an metal condensate pan. I would like to do more in the future though, thanks!
You left out that pliers looking swaging tool, with the long split rod that can be expanded at will. Those work real well too but you have to keep spinning the tube/tool as you swage so you get a nice round swage. Also I've discovered you can split the copper if you go too fast with swaging.
Thanks.
Glad to help!
انته حقا مبدع في كل شي والادوات التي لديك جميله جدا
شكرا جزيلا! أنا أقدر ذلك!
Hi Craig, I just started on aircon. Got myself a set of swage punch, all in inch. I come across a copper pipe with exact OD of 15mm. It cannot match any of the tools. Can you help?
Hammer swage are the best:)
Another fantastic video. I would like to know which one of these swaging tools is your favorite and would recommend to newbie technicians.
For a new technician, I would go with the consistency of the hammer swage since the manual swaging tool and hydraulic won't work well for smaller tubing like 3/8" and the dies don't go down that small for 1/4" and 5/16". Spin flares will work but just watch the dust from going into the tubes. Thanks the truth!
@the truth Its helpful because I have a hard time keeping up with answering everyones' questions across the board that are coming in, thanks!
Another great lesson. Thank you again. Reminds me of when I was an I&E tech. Running pneumatic lines.
Also how would you like us to purchase your book, if there is any difference between sites?
The website www.acservicetech.com is a little cheaper since we don't have to pay the amazon commission. There is also $5 when purchasing the bundle of the paperback and ebook at the same time. The ebook is only available at our website. Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video Anthony!
thanks
Glad to help!
Can I swage the 5/8 female on my A coil to 3/4 female for my line set? Or is that too much?
PLEASE ANY VIDEO ON LOWER PRESSURE SWITCH LP
So with soft copper, you don't have to anneal the pipe first with high heat?
thank u
cuanto es el costo de ese kit que muestra en el video.
Hello Craig. Another great video. One Question, what tools would you use to swage a 1/4" or 5/16" line? I have heard the hydraulic swages tend to leave the swage offset. Your Thoughts?
The hammer swage, spin swage or conventional swage and swage block. The hydraulic and manual swages only go down to 3/8" but I wouldn't use the manual or hydraulic for that small of a size, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel Thanks for the reply. Actually, I own a 5/16" hydraulic head swage, Hilmor Brand. I have not used it yet. I am aware they also sell a 1/4"
Timely, as I have to extend some lines to move my new AC to a better location in my workshop.
It looks to me that for a guy who only does this occasionally the hammer swage might be the best bang for the buck?
Very much enjoying the book, learning a lot.
Cheers from Tokyo
PS are you doing a video on silver soldering or brazing the swage joints?
For silver solder will MAPP gas be hot enough?
Depending on the number of connections pre-made couplers might be the cheapest way to go.
Yes, you can silver solder with MAPP + Oxy (you can also braze 15% with it, which is going to give better results especially if you don't get a lot of practice). In either case, be sure to use a reducing flame and flow nitrogen.
The Tokyo Craftsman, yes like truthsmiles said, you could use some refrigerant flare couplers or if you were silver soldering, mapp gas would certainly be hot enough. If you were brazing then you would need acetylene for 15% silver brazing rods. Also Hammer Swages are a great choice as they will work well for 3/8" swages, thanks!
You _can_ use MAPP + 100% Oxygen for 15% silver rods, BUT you're going to use a lot of fuel. It just barely gets hot enough after a long time. However, MAPP gas alone I don't think will work (never tried). In either case, the trouble is a great conductor and heat will eventually travel to any nearby valves. I like the suggestion of flare fittings too.
Nice share frends👍
Glad to help!

TRICK AIRCOND CHANNEL
Jamesley Joseph yes brother
Do you have videos on how to measure and bend copper tubing.?
Not yet but I would like to, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel that would be awesome I cant find any good hvac copper bending with hand bender how to measure and use the L/R marking, also on the compact ratcheting benders like the blackmax, hilmor etc. In the field type videos not just a review.
Are you going to do flare ends next video?
I would like to show the spin flares next to the traditional flaring tool as well as the eccentric at some point, thanks Mentorcase!
What if you are reaming or swaging a vertical pipe that you can't make it face downward position lets say if you are working on an equipment and want to change a big filter dryer you cut the 0ipe but you have to do it on vertical how to get the shaving out
in that case, you are not going to be able to ream that because there is no way to save the shavings from going down in the inside, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel i asked some other guys and they said you will purge nitrogen but I dont think nitrogen can blow them out once they are fallen into the pipe.
what happens when bits of copper fall into the copper tube and flow into the compressor?
That damages the pumping part of the compressor and scratches it. The filter drier has a prefilter where they eventually will get trapped but it is not good to have that running through the system, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel I used your advice to swag a tube a bit to add a service port tube inside brazing with a 1/4" silfos ring. Those silfos rings are nice. but now I think I'll have bits of empty copper slivers inside the system. System is completely drained from a previous leak. I hope using my vacuum pump will pull any of the debris out. what's your thoughts on this?
I think swagging the copper pipe is not ideal to do it especially if the pipe is upright as all the debris goes inside the pipe .

I want this book so how can procedure I am in riyad Saudi Arabia how much riyal
The book can be purchased and shipped through the website www.acservicetech.com but we also recommend individuals in other countries to purchase the Ebook from our site since it is less expensive and you don't need to pay the cost for shipping.
