- In this HVAC Training Video, I show Step By Step How to Ream and Flare Copper Tubing with each Type of Flaring Tool. I Flare the Copper Tubing with the Standard Flare and Block Kit, Eccentric Flaring Tool, Spin Flaring Tool, and Deluxe Process Flaring Tool. I use the Mechanical Torque Wrench to Tighten the Flares to the Proper ft/lb Torque. I use the Round Reamer instead of the Stick Reamer and Unibit to Prepare the ACR (Air Conditioning Refrigeration) Soft Copper. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

How i buy that tools
Hello can you please tell me the hight the flare block needs to be of the ground while flaring and swaging
AC Service Tech LLC is the very best site for proper procedures and techniques.
Very well and thoroughly explained.
I appreciate there interest and sharing the right and all details.
Keep it up guys great work and thank you!
his explanation of the flaring tool was very detailed and very useful
Glad it was helpful!
One time I was putting a double flare on a trailer override brake when the person that broke it came up and distracted me, then after flaring I noticed the nut still sitting on the trailer hitch, after cutting the flare of and reflaring it I just realized that I had done it again, time for a coffee before having another go.
Ha ha, it happens to all of us! Yup coffee break, ha ha!
I needed to hear that!
Number 2 is probably the best for me. Thank you for the video.
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for going over this! I’ll keep some of those tools on my wish list. For now, I ordered a flare kit off Amazon for $16😆. I used to have one but someone stole it.
Got ya, crazy someone took that, sorry to hear!
Thanks for the lesson..
I already have the tool, and I've used it but I don't use all the procedures, such as cleaning the end of the pipe after cutting.
Glad it was helpful!
Spin flare looks useful for tight places
Very informative, thank you!! One thing I would add at least for beginners is make sure the flare nut is on before flaring.. LOL May sound stupid obvious but it's a common beginner mistake.
LOL!! Beginner? Ever been in too big a hurry? LOL!!
I believe I mentioned that several times in this video and showed the nut on the copper but yes it has happened to all of us and it is now usually on the forefront of our minds before flaring, thanks!
I've been working with flare fittings for like 30 years and still forget once in awhile! Lol
I was explaining how to flare to my helper and strest don't leave flare nut. Then I go leave the flare nut off the perfect flare.
Yup that figures, ha ha!!
Great demonstration of using the different types of flaring tools. I’m a fan of the orbital tool and not so much for the spin-type flairs. Great job as always! 😀👍
Thanks stuzman!
I like the eccentric also. I have the same yj one and it seems like I always have trouble with the tubing slipping out of the yoke. I have to use mesh cloth to grip it. Poorly made I feel like.
thanks for an(other) excellent video - is it appropriate to use a flare+mechanical connection to fix a refrigerator ? I need to replace the compressor on my fridge and would be interested in trying this approach as opposed to brazing; or do we risk getting a leak after a few months due to vibrations ?
Thanks !
I'm getting your book this Friday, thanks for the video Craig
Awesome thanks Nathan and let me know what you think of it after reading the book!
Thank you teacher, excellent as always.
Thanks a lot Luis!
Hai a m from India
Your video is good
Hey, thanks
Thanks as always. Good job
Thank you for your support!
Last one pretty interesting and cheap for hobbyist
شكرا و تحيه
Thanks for the video! That's the first time I've seen the spin flare tool used. Does anyone know if its as good as the conical flare block?
Great video.
Nice video thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you brother finished genius
Glad you are enjoying the videos. Thanks for your comments!
Very nice sir
Thank you for your support!
Superb teacher! What is the cost of the book ? How to get it? Kind attention all responders must mention their country and date.
Great demonstration and video.
Thanks a lot Kenny!
Can you do brazing instead of flare? I know nothing about hvac, Just a youtube enthusiast
Nice
what are pros and cons using 1:40 minute manual flare vs 8:00 spin flare
Good job
Thank you!
For convenance whitch one is the best
Muy buenos eramienta de refrigeración me gusta
Sir according to you which flaring tools are best please give your opinion
Thanks you so much
Most welcome
I heard a 410a unit use a defferent degree angle need to buy a 410a flaring tool not the old tool ive always used.
Bernie Clement I think so. I know that for the mini-split systems it's a 45° flare. I think that the old flare is 35 or something.
@@johnsmithjr5498 im thinking small degree of flare difference dont matter when you tighten down the flare nut. It dont leak your good!
Most flaring tools now available are 45 degree and most air conditioning flares whether for R410A or older R-22 are 45 degree. Plumbing is also 45 degree, thanks!
I've heard the same thing. Also that there's a difference between plumbing and refrigeration. But seems to be cleared up now. Thanks.
Thanks for another great video!
Thanks a lot DC!
hello very nice channel very useful thank you for good useful shares i have a question i want to work with the air conditioner compressor externally I connected (+) L directly to c /// I made parallel connection from (-) N to capacitor // R I made a connection from the other leg of the capacitor or fuse blows or the compressor runs for 2 seconds 5/6 seconds stops and rings again for 2 seconds and it gets very hot.
Great video
So which is your preferred "go to" method?
Eccentric for sure
@@acservicetechchannel which is the eccentric one in the video? the second one or the third tool?
I love Craig's videos and have always followed his suggestions. However I have never been able to get a tube reamer like the red one he uses to work. Even with the copper tube pointed down and doing lots of tapping on the tube after reaming, I always find 1 or 2 VERY small copper flakes left inside the tube that I can't get out. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong or how to get the flakes out?
Put some tissue or cotton ball inside the tube before reaming. You can pull it out afterwards with some long tweezers and it will take out all the flakes and chips with it.
Hey dear can you make a video how to use torque rench please
Here is a job where I flare the fittings using the torque wrench, thanks! ruclips.net/video/Ze7HCWcwnrI/видео.html
@@acservicetechchannel this is video only how to use torque rench but i need how to adjust torque rench for any requirement
The manufacturers have different torque settings even for the same tube but this info is found in the manufacturers literature, thanks!
Plz I want PDF of lessons the clothhing and climatisatin
Isn't the angle of the flare different also? I know for the mini-split systems it's a 45°.
I believe I discussed that a little in the vid but we use 45 degree and all of these tools are 45 degree. Refrigerant flares regardless of the type such as R-22 or R-410A are 45 degree. Plumbing is also 45 degree, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel thank i got to do this that helped saying plumbing is the same
@@acservicetechchannel I always wanted to know if the angle of the flare for r22 & r410 A are the same thanks for this info.
Good
👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Very nice
Sir your country plz reply
My country india your totality tool so good

With my yellow jacket deluxe flare tool I've found that my flares don't check out with my flare gauge
Personally, I prefer double flares for 1/4 and even 3/8. Any thoughts?
We just use single flares for HVACR. I understand being used to them do to steel brake lines, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel Yeah, my problem is I don't use torque wrenches and I probably should. That's why I double flare my small lines; I can tighten them as tight as I can and no worries about the flange ripping off. No leaks so far. The sets I have are HVAC sets, so they make HVAC double flare kits so.....
I guess we do!
The torque settings prescribed by the manufacturers are for single flares but as long as they hold, thanks!
I like the idea double flare, just carry some crescent wrench than carrying specific tools I have no space for that xD
@acservicetechchannel
I never used torque wrench and never double flared and so far have not heard about leak of my flare after 6 years. The only risk is damage to the nut or valve thread. Why I do that? Because that's how it was done the company I worked for. They said they don't use torque wrench because they had leaks and they used the best flaring tool I've ever seen - it gives You total control over the process of doing a flare. It works similar to orbital tool but it uses three free spinnig cones connected with vertices and connected to spinnig press. When you think feel it's done you disconnect thread using some kind of clutch/pin and three cones still can rotate freely around axis while maintainig pushing force in place (without this step flare would have shape of rounded triangle). It's called grandfather's flaring tool because of inventor of this tool - some small manufacture in Poland. Hope they maintained production quality (the guy is retired now and his son taken over the business) because I want to start my own business and cannot imagine making flares without this tool.

Is there a rule of thumb on how much copper sticks out with each diameter of tubing?
It is all the same. The new flare tools have a stop built in but you can use the width of a penny.
Yeah usually it is around an 1/8" past the edge of the flare block on most but it also depends on the depth of the flare grove in the block, thanks!
Is it 1/8 inch from bottom of flare on tool or the top edge?
Which is your favorite flaring tool??
Hello
Anyone has experience with the slinflare?
How long does the reamer last I have a red one
They don't really go bad unless it is a cheap one and the blade falls out. If the whole thing is metal, they usually last as long as you have them when using them for copper only, thanks!
May I have access to these torque wrench in Jesus name.

You burned yourself on the copper when you used the spin flare, didn't ya?
Hey Bill, it was time lapsed, it was warm at that point but yes I should have put a note to say to wait or wear gloves at that moment. I think I wore gloves when holding it during the process though, thanks!
Yea it's crazy how hot it gets.
