I sold my Shogun 7 (has ISO recording with SDI inputs) for an Atem Pro ISO. They missed a big opportunity here, the SSD should be inserted into the Cast with ISO recording -- which I'm sure they'll add in the future.
@@DaCarnival the Ninja V with Atom OS 10.71 is supposed to be able to record up to 5.9K ProRes RAW! 1080p ISO recording or even 2K ISO recording should be possible if it can accept up to a 5.9K input. Maybe even 4K ISO h.264 or h.265 since those bit rates are far lower then the astronomically high 5.9K ProRes RAW.
I am primarily interested in switching to the screen on my pc and my camera...not for streaming..only for recording. Can I record 4k to the ninja v if I am not live streaming?
For what it's worth, it's been 2 years since this came out and they dropped the price to just $150, so it's a great entry level switcher. I would love to see a 4K version at some point or at least a way to save the individual inputs like the ATEM ISO line.
I have both the CastX and ATEM Extreme ISO. Different animals. The CastX is ultracompact, perfect for my desk or a live demo, where I can show the different camera angles. The ATEM is more powerful, but larger and needs external monitor(s). It has multiple overlays and macros, and the Pro or Extreme can livestream without a computer. I see use cases for both, which is why I own both.
How does the AtomX Cast handle LUTs ? More specifically, is there a single LUT for the stream/programme output, or is there a LUT per camera/input? Obviously having a LUT per input would be great for different cameras or gamuts+color spaces on each input
If 2 outputs work at the same time it's much better then ATEM Mini (all 4 ports version). Cause you can have program and multiview both via dedicated HDMI. Bigger ATEMS got 2 HDMI outs AFAIR.
I realise I'm late to this party but if the firmware on your atem is up to date I'm pretty sure you can change the layout of the multiview in the atem software control app
Just tried mine for the first time tonight. Somehow the color turns crazy at random. Largely desaturated overall but my skin tones are purple. Coincidence im here at Gerald’s video and he loves purple but no one wants to look THAT purple. Anyone know WTF is going on with my cast???
I just got this. My biggest gripe is the Overlay. It is so unintuitive. It should go on all feeds. Also they added a crazy limit of 1 MB file size. Unfortunately for a full-frame slate a PNG that is 1920x1080 is 1.1 MB. I managed to get a full screen slate by dividing it in 2 and loading 2 separate images in the top and bottom. It is SUPER HACKY though. And why the hold down do to load and not the double-tap like you do switching sources? Just unintuitive to have separate procedures. You should also be able to fade in and out an overlay AND most importantly there needs to be a Program view mode so you can actually see the overlays without a separate monitor. I mean the whole point of this thing is that you don't have to carry around a new monitor. But it holds a lot of promise if they continue to improve it.
I already have the Ninja V, would you say go for the ATEM Mini or the AtomX Cast over this? I also considered the Ninja Connect but it’s limited to 2 inputs so I’ve taken it out of the equation. I’m leaning towards the ATEM because i feel it’s a bit more flexible but I could be wrong. This also requires me to use my Ninja when I could need my Ninja for something else at the same shoot.
Great video - quick question in regards to audio. Let’s say if you have an a7s3 with the XLR K3M - would you be able to output all 4 tracks of audio to the live stream - or is it restricted by HDMI capabilities to pass through audio. Audio was main reason I went with atem mini pro (I can chose which channels are active - and have multiple active at the same time from different sources - helps for live streaming with panels of 4+ people) So I’d be interested to know if the audio the ninja records/puts out to the live stream is limited to 2 tracks or can it be more?
Hi, I'm Mark! :) Just kidding, congrats for the 300k! Incredibly impressive but well deserved. Don't mean to be one of those weird people sending you a back massage but you're definitely one of my favorite youtubers. Love the content and the overall visual style!
Love your RUclips channel, when you’re doing a live is your audio going directly into your computer via OBS? Or is there another means in which your ring in your audio into the live call?
Bought this the other day before I saw your stream. Could see the value in it and potential for future firmware updates. Then I saw this stream and was super happy with my impulse buy (bravo to the Atomos email ad team for that 😂🤙🏻)
I don't think I've seen anyone cover a video switching box while cutting the video with that switcher. You must have XXL brains to be able to present and live switch this stream the same time.
Do you have some sort of magic version of the Cast that downscales input resolution? They way you talked in the video made it sound like you could just plug anything in and it would work. But my experience with Sony cameras is that you have to set HDMI output either to Auto, or 1080p. If you leave it at 2160p you won't see anything on the input. The Atomos website also says "Any interlaced or progressive video source up to 1080i/p60 can be connected to the HDMI inputs ". It seems to handle FPS conversion well, but I don't think it actually converts resolution? Also wondering how the resolution of this RUclips video is 1440p when the output resolution of the Cast is 1080p?
Hello! Can I enable multicam mode, record it in 4k, and then use each picture in full hd format? Or will the recorded file be full hd even in multicam mode?
Never thought I’d run a live stream needing this. But recently, I had to and this video was immensely helpful. Running this livestream raised $4500 for a nonprofit I work with so this was great to have as a reference point to help me help them.
Well kind of complicated for me? I was buying it from B&H through your site but I am not understanding anything I am just lost. If you can point me to where can I read step by step on how to operate petit up ETC. THX
For some reason my "switcher" menu doesn't have the right half that yours does, so I'm only able to cut between angles, and not fade. My firmware is up to date. Do you know if this was a beta firmware that you were using in this stream?
Can this be connected to a foot switcher? Lifestyle scenario: if a band member for example can switch from their pedal board to switch camera angles is it possible?
May I know how you output your computer screen to the Cast? As I tried a few usbc to hdmi adopter but the Cast can't catch the computer screen signal. But those adopter works normal when I connect to ninja without the Cast.
Can you have your preset graphic be place on each camera you switch to. Say I’m shooting a panel discussion with 3 people. Switching to camera 2 can I have name/title of speaker 2 when switch to camera 2 appear for camera 2? So you are saying you can’t press record for each camera while the Cast with the Ninja5 is recording? Can you use a zoom F8N pro with the Cast/ Ninja5. Where you have a wireless lavaliere on your 3 subjects. If you wanted the follow audio feature.
Hey Gerald. I know this is older at this point, but I'm very curious about the application of a LUT to the incoming footage. As I understand this is not currently possible. My workaround has been to send the s-log footage to a camera mounted ninja V, apply the LUT there and then send the converted image to the X cast. It works... but it requires an extra Ninja for each cam. Not a cheap solution by any means.
I have some rather interesting questions as I've been using the Ninja V in combination with an ATEM Mini. • Does the AtomX Cast support custom LUT for live output; atm I'm using Ninja V on the FX3 for Slog3 to Rec709 conversion before sending to ATEM (we do lives outside; need the DR) • Does the AtomX Cast support any sort of audio adjustments, i.e. audio from a single HDMI feed or Multi, and is there dynamic compression for that feed like ATEM has in it's desktop app
The lack of multi-cam out for the ATEM mini is a pain point, thus the AtomX is appealing, but having the custom LUT conversion has drastically bumped the quality of our lives (pun intended).
A follow-up on this would be great. Atomos doesn't seem to be able to make up their mind on gear lately. Great promise with the Cast, but no connectivity. Ditto the Connect, which has great connectivity but none of the features of the Cast (and you can't use both on one Ninja), and then a watered-down (and admittedly less expensive) Yolobox in the form of the Zato. You have the clout and contacts, Gerald, why not a full livestream and assessment on all of the above?
man I'm really interested in getting this since there is a December Ninja V+ and switcher bundle..but I wonder if my brain is really going to be able to manage this lol
Im going to go insane. My X Cast doesnt light up. I have tried everything install wise and cannot get it to do anything but be recognized as invalid. Anyone have any ideas?
@@SixplusonemediaAu Thanks. I was hoping not but I saw one on a camera in the background and that would mean 5 ninja V's. That would have killed it for me.
I BOUGHT THIS AND THE FIRMWARE HAD TO BE UPDATED BUT THE USB-C DOESNT WORK BOTH B&H AND ATOMOS SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED BUT SINCE IM STILL WITH IN MY RETURN PERIOD IM GETTING RID OF THIS AND LOOKING ELSE WHERE.
Congrats on 300K subs Gerald. Hopefully one day I can get a phone call from you telling me you’re on your way to check on my studio setup 😅
Congratulations on 300K, Gerald. Thank you for all your outstanding work.
This is a game-changer. They will sell a million of these. Thanks for making this video, Gerald.
I sold my Shogun 7 (has ISO recording with SDI inputs) for an Atem Pro ISO. They missed a big opportunity here, the SSD should be inserted into the Cast with ISO recording -- which I'm sure they'll add in the future.
Not sure the internal processing of the Ninja V can do that - isn't the Shogun 7 a much beefier computer on the inside?

Recording four 4K30 ISO streams on the Ninja V+ would be amazing.

it extended the life of my NinjaV :)
is it only 1080p because of a 1.4 HDMI port or can it be altered by firmware for future updates?
