    Good info, but Id like to see closer up pics of that 127 wound badge. Looks identical to originals I have seen. I have one on its way to me as we speak. Sometimes you have to be careful; I bought a panzer badge and someone thought it was a repro. Turns out others on WA chimed in and informed me it was a variant F&R that was hard to find, but very real. Thanks for the informative vids!

      Yeah we always hear stories of good badges mixed in a box of fakes. It happens. This one tho, when you look at a proper 127 was just full of problems. Had other 127’s and they were way different. The base metal isnt even right.

      Yeah the real ones are so rare Ive never even seen one. But these junkers are all over the place. Only in recent years have people been rethinking these and i would bet anyone who collected lots of badges in the 90’s has one in their collection.

    Always loved the eagle on that first one. What still amazes me is after 20 plus years I still find tinnies mostly I've never seen before. Like well that has got to be all of them, then what the! Still get excited to

    Thanks for all of your 4-1-1 videos bro.
    l always like the "looks" from dealers when ftf with them and you call out that an item they have is a fake/repro and not going to purchase it or whatever and they say either "no it's not" or "How so?" l then tell them why it is a fake/repro and they beg to differ that they are a "reputable dealer"
    Uhhh-Huhhhhh
    But again thanx for your videos either it's something new l learn or a handy relearning mode

    Study , experience and a good mentor is always needed. I started in the 1970's under the tutelage of an advanced collector who started in the late 1940's and yes it was buyer beware as of May 9, 1945. Rudolf "Rudy" Souval of Austria just kept cranking them out for the hundreds of follow up occupation troops, throughout the early post war. Austria was not as harshly treated as Germany with regard to insignia in the post war era (it seems Stalin and Truman pardoned the vassal state of Hitler's birth). "Rudy" also made them for the Germans during the war., so? Albeit a sharp eye and experience can spot that most post-war RS is not the same quality (barely). Moral of the story is find a good mentor and study, study, study the subject as you are. Helping young collectors. I also recommend books (pre-internet) Angolia, Littlejohn, Davis are really the primers for this hobby. / investment. Many an older collector has backed away from the current market, unless dealing with a known fellow collector. Good luck and good video.

    If possible would you be able to make an entire video based purely on combat badges like the infantry assault badge, panzer badge, etc? I think it would be a great video for new people to learn from. Some information that can be included is like online pictures of different pin forms maker marks and general details to look for. Great video btw!

    • @smgwarrelics
      @smgwarrelics  Год назад +3

      Its very hard to do that unfortunately. The reason is that there are SOOO many real makers with all different set ups. Thats why the books specific to them are worth their weight in gold. If you had to buy just one book…i would get Webers newest infantry assault book because Most makers made an IAB but all did not make panzer, flak etc. So you can start to learn hardware styles/makers that way. Im not a badge expert…i rely on books that the experts made lol

    Brilliant and informative video, a couple of the badges would have been better with a bit of professional grinding, etc, but they would all have fooled me haha, they'd be good enough for people that can't afford the real thing, for re, enacting etc , because they look good to the unlearned eyes, my eyes haha, but a brilliant and interesting video, you know you're stuff mate.

      @@smgwarrelicsNo problem mate, I remember in the early 70s, I lived in a run down area, and our favourite place to play was the landfill dump that served most of the towns roundabout us, and with people moving from the dark 40\50\60s into the bright and modern days of the 70s, they were throwing everything out, we were 11 to 13 year old and we found guns, swords, bayonets, helmets, hundreds of medals, mostly British, Canadian, etc, just loads of antiquities, and militaria, one of my mates found a wooden box complete with a lugar and cleaning equipment, I swapped one of mates a commando knife for a German picklehaube, , the stuff that we found was just the tip of the iceberg, also loads of jewelry,gold and silver pocket watches, rings, chains etc, I even found a leather comb case stitched at both ends, it felt as if it was full of sand, but when I cut the stitching and poured it onto my hand,it wasn't sand,it was silver groats,old English 4 penny pieces, from the 16'00s,there was loads of them, most stuff we threw away when bored with it,or if we found something more interesting, but some of it we sold to an old guy who lived in our street who was a collector, and hoader, but not rubbish, antiquities, coins,old jewelry etc, usually for penny's, I just wish I knew then, what I know now, the landfill site is now a municipal golf course, and I know that what we found was nothing compared to what we didn't find, the people walking on and playing golf don't realise there's a complete treasure trove under their feet,if I was rich,I would buy the land, and with today's machinery and technology, I would excavate the lot, all the cars, lorries, motorbikes etc that we used play in, push each other about on are all lying underneath, if I was to write down everything I can remember finding,I'd need a lot of writing space, even things like stamp collections, musical instruments, including pianos, top hats, bowler hats, hundreds of fedoras, lovely fountain pens, travel clocks, cameras, etc etc etc, memories haha, nowadays everyone is clued on the value of stuff,back then, it was all junk and clutter to the modern day young men and women, they didn't want old musty kit bags, full of uniforms, and whatever other stuff was in them, the British and Canadian militaria was everywhere, especially uniforms,hats, berets etc, but there was that much of it that we didn't really bother with the British and Canadian stuff, I just remembered one of the mates found a boxed brass flare gun in amongst a lorry load of tortoises that had been dumped, honestly,a lorry load of tortoises, and other odds and ends, just unbelievable what was being thrown out by people, like I said mate ,I just wish I knew then what I know now,I'd be a rich man haha.

    • @smgwarrelics
      @smgwarrelics  Год назад

      Helmets are tough to be honest. Outside of obvious junk your best defense is to study decals. There is a great book ok helmet decals. Nothing that can easily be taught in a video. There is just too much.
