Great video Alex , always love it when you interview Helmut Weitze a true expert & gentleman of the hobby looking forward to seeing the pieces you bought off him
Thank you Alex for another great video, I remember back in the 1980s in gun shows ww2 stuff and guns were very affordable because very few people were collecting I remember seeing lugers in great condition with holsters for $400 and less and uniforms even less ,who would imagine ww2 stuff would become so expensive, ww2 1911s were around $300 back then buying ww2 guns or buying a new gun for less Money made sense but today is the other way around and it has turned into a smart investment, I still remember when we used ww2 german helmets for target practice and today we have them behind glass.
Danke Helmut for sharing the amazing findings with us!!!! I would be afraid to walk into your shop because I would like to buy many things and that would certainly make my wife very angry!!!! I’ll be looking forward to seeing future posts from Alex from your shop or at a show!!! Another awesome episode Alex!!!
If you like antiques, go to Medina, Ohio, USA there. There is this place called the Medina antique mall. There is a lot of military stuff from both world wars and Vietnam they have helmets patches uniforms etc.
Ok, I mean nothing bad here, or am I gonna advertise another stand.....but, I was at Gehrding 2 years ago. I finally decided to make the step to start collecting seriously. I drove 300 Km to the show. Mr Helmut was my idol, and I was so damn excited to meet him. I waited for a moment until nobody was at his table, at the moment that I saw that no one was at his table I introduced myself saying, Hello Mr Wietze can I speak English with you? I've watched many of videos of you and I've been learning from you, and I'm just so happy to meet you. He said, he shook my hand thanking me. I followed up with, "I've been collecting for a couple of years, can I just ask you, because I'm trying my best to learn to look at two things for me and tell me if they are authentic and if not, why? At that moment his smile was gone and he said "ok." After him letting me wait while he straightened clear envelopes he took them from my hand and said, "I'm not interested." I said, "No, I don't want to sell them, but you have the most expertise out of everyone, just if they're real." He said, "yea they're real but they're not worth much money." Shoved it in my hand at that was the end of it. I went to another table from a known seller out of Germany and bought some medals for a fair price. And with fright I said, "hey, I know you guys, I've bought from you"And they went, "oh shit, you're that guy!!!" And we laughed like hell. I asked them after a while if they could look at my things and they literally said, "dude, we'd love to help you." Then they said, "hey man it's very interesting, it's not gonna be worth thousands" I said, "no these are from my personal, and they went, "yeah it's real, which is interesting, because we've seen it only a couple of times, it's not worth thousands, but it's worth a piece of real history." That was my experience with him and Trivia. Money vs Expertise
you have to remmeber that guy is leading a company worth millions of euros and travels all over europe i think it is a stressfull job i wouldnt take it too bad
Loved the uniforms and visor caps! Mr. Weitze really knows what he is talking about; always a true professional. I met him at the SOS, and stood by and listened in on a few conversations he had with others. Thanks for the video Alex.

Good to see Helmut. Danke
Those prices LOL. In particular knowing that Weitze only pays 50% of what he sells the items for.
