When Led Zeppelin played two concerts at Knebworth Stadium in England back in the summer of 1979, "Big" Bonzo (John) had "L'il" Bonzo (Jason) sit in for him during the soundcheck before the first show. He played "Trampled Underfoot" with the rest of the band, who were stunned by how hard then-thirteen-year-old Jason beat on ol' Dad's kit.

Agreed, it's like he didn't have an exact strategy or pattern to follow, it was very natural to John with alot of jazz aspects of improv and off the cuff. Whereas Jason is more mundane, not horrible, just sounds rehearsed, generic in ways, and repetitive.
I love that Jason show’s incredible respect to his dads memory by continuing on the magic that was in Johns playing and then just as amazing Dweezil Zappa follows with Zappa on Zappa touring.

It 's always difficult to make comparisons, Jason is the son of the greatest drummer in rock history. Perhaps the thing that makes them different it's their body and long hair. :) God bless them both!
John would be so damn proud of his son of how much he sounds like his dad. So sad we lost John at an early age. But now we can see John through his son when he plays which is fantastic.
John was a beast on drums. I'm glad Jason doesn't try to be his father, but rather honor him. And, he is a bassass in his own right. There will never be another rock drummer like John....EVER! He was a musical genius. Not only in his craft but he was also so well aware of the other instruments and his part in the arrangement. May he rest in peace. Long live the king!

he'll never be as good as his old man! but that's not the point he wanted to honor his dad. rest in peace John! wish you was still alive to show these drummers how to solo
jason Bonham is a great drummer ! he's on of the best out there. But when you listen to the old man and jason side by side there is a difference. when the old man played ,it sounded like thunder , when jason plays , he's a better rhythm drummer than his dad. But bonzo sounded like thunder and no one will ever come close to that !
great drummer he's come a long way from when he was a kid..listen to Paul Rodgers Muddy Water Blues Jason does all the drumming on it ... it is some of the finest drumming you will ever hear ,he puts a great twist on all the tunes
I don't want to lose an ounce of respect for one of out generations Great Drummers...... Jason I *technically* a great drummer. Great to listen to, and feel.... BUT - there's a reason his Dad was called "Bonzo" ....... When the Great John Bonham went off on a solo - or just a musical tangent... it became an out-of-body experience!!!! You KNEW you were going on a trip,
My question is this. Yes he is just like his dad!! Brilliant drumming skills however,,, WTF is that Dj in the behind him for? Why did they not remove him from the stage??
It's not a DJ - it's Derek Sherinian - the keyboardplayer of the band "Black Country Communion". The band that Jason Bonham played in at the time together with Joe Bonamassa and Glenn Hughes (Glenn played in Deep Purple, Mk III and Mk IV)
Jason you are my favorite rock drummer since the moment I got to watch you playing with your daddy 's band!! I have been teaching drum instruction since I was just 16yrs old and I know how great you are and never forget that my brother!!That's a Rap there's nothing more to say...PEACE
can u tell this guy idolizes his dad, despite his alcoholism? Jason obviously has eaten, drunk, & breathed his father's life & skill. perhaps it's the only way he can keep him alive awhile longer.... great job from a grateful son.
Actually Jason is much more refined and dynamic a player . He has more technique. I’ve been playing for 38 years and can make this determination very easily. No one respects his fathers abilities more than I do but that’s the simple truth . Thanks for saying it though . There are lots of idiots out there.
Agreed. I saw John perform live with Zep and he’s definitely not overrated. It’s important to remember that when we look at Bonham in his hay day it’s over 50 years ago. No one else was doing that stuff then. Not Baker, Moon, not Ringo, Watts. The only one who came close was Powell. But Bonham was an innovator.
Jason with his mates open up for Peter Frampton farewell tour and it was the first time I saw them and they rocked i love this guys . My sister made my birthday special she took me to see Peter Frampton and I'm still on cloud nine since August . BUNCHES OF PRAYERS LUVS AND BBIIGG HHUUGGS TO YA'LL.!! LUVS YAS BUNCHES!!
Sorry, but no. Take a look at Moby Dick by John, lots of vids in different places, and turn back to this video.😕 If you love Jason as much as I do, take a look to him, playing in front of his uncles, there you will see his talent... U know I really feel very fortunate to have met Jason..at a super cross race in Florida...I had not yet learn to appreciate how good his dad was and I'm glad Jason kept his promise and still plays the drums...it's a joy to hear him...beat them...I commented how zepplin music I could turn the radio off walk a few miles and being singing the song in excactly the right place when I turn the radio back on two days later... because of that metronome percision drumming...which takes ur mind off one less thing and allows musicians to focus on their part more...raising all up
You hear it all the time how great Neal Peart of Rush is as a drummer. I agree, Neal Peart is a great drummer. John Bonham in my professional opinion, is the "God Father of rock drummers." Hey, Jason Bonham is good himself. John would of be proud of his son.

This really cool, I feel the connection between father and son.
I had tears in my eyes watching this. It's like an intimate conversation between father and son using the language they speak best - drumbeats.
Class act all the way around...His father would be proud, i'm sure.
Incredible, what a moment in time. Thanks to technology, we can do these things today...
Man LISTEN to what he does with that TINY kit !!! What an awesome tribute to his dad, and a kick ass world class drummer in his own right. ROCK ON JASON !!! Can't wait to see you LIVE again with THE CIRCLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the 199 thumbs down. Go to the doctor right now. You must have serious chemical imbalance. You need medication. This is AMAZING... 😊💪❤👍✌John is smiling from ear to ear watching this . Watching his awesome son play like he did... except that one roll. Jason just let's his Dad go to town on his own...
Wow, brings tears to my eyes. This is amazing. I was a teenager in the 70's. Led Zeppelin were like gods. Bonzo didn't screw around.
When Jason let his dad play in the video it was like saying to everybody that everyone can get close to John bonham but only John bonham can be JOHN BONHAM
he'll never be as good as his old man! but that's not the point he wanted to honor his dad. rest in peace John! wish you was still alive to show these drummers how to solo
jason Bonham is a great drummer ! he's on of the best out there. But when you listen to the old man and jason side by side there is a difference.
when the old man played ,it sounded like thunder , when jason plays , he's a better rhythm drummer than his dad. But bonzo sounded like thunder and no one will ever come close to that !
I LOVE seeing the son pay tribute to his father like this. Very special thing this is.
Did his dad proud, amazing legacy and an amazing lineage, it's in the DNA
great drummer he's come a long way from when he was a kid..listen to Paul Rodgers Muddy Water Blues Jason does all the drumming on it ... it is some of the finest drumming you will ever hear ,he puts a great twist on all the tunes
Great tribute to his dad. His dad would be so proud. Great job Jason. JOHN BONHAM greatest drummer that ever lived.
You KNEW you were going on a trip,
your right.....you could tell he put body mind and soul into his playing.....you can feel it.
Sure could !!
+Carmine Allocca Are you sure that wasn't the effect of something else combined with the drumming?
Probably!!! ;)
+einarabelc5 ...no...just a big coincidence that nothing is awesome now that all those old folks are sober...
To be sure, he's no Bonzo, but he has some of his own unique style which I like a lot.
Wow Jason, I miss your dad so much, but this was the best version you ever did on Moby Dick with your dad. Thank you brother!!
The best father son drummers
Jason you are my favorite rock drummer since the moment I got to watch you playing with your daddy 's band!! I have been teaching drum instruction since I was just 16yrs old and I know how great you are and never forget that my brother!!That's a Rap there's nothing more to say...PEACE
Its a good thing the son followed the footsteps of his father and became as equally GREAT!!!!
That was AWESOME!!!
Hes def his fathers son.great job jason.a pleasure n treasure to watch.
Thanks to Jason for his talents, awesome drummer. Can you imagine growing up and being taught by John himself? Also thanks for sharing this video.
can u tell this guy idolizes his dad, despite his alcoholism? Jason obviously has eaten, drunk, & breathed his father's life & skill. perhaps it's the only way he can keep him alive awhile longer.... great job from a grateful son.
Imagaine if John bonham standing beside there and he smile while Jason play drum.
What's with everyone pointing out that Jason isn't at the same level as his father was? Such an obvious and irrelevant comment to make.
Fiontán Ó Cathail but something my so obvious is that he is using K customs on a Ludwig Acrolite kit in a tribute to his father who used Paiste’s
Actually Jason is much more refined and dynamic a player . He has more technique. I’ve been playing for 38 years and can make this determination very easily. No one respects his fathers abilities more than I do but that’s the simple truth . Thanks for saying it though . There are lots of idiots out there.
Derek Frampton John Bonham is not overrated
@Derek Frampton another Bonham hater!! Overrated? Only the driving force behind one of rock's most legendary bands....
Makes a Father proud...
😎✌
Jason with his mates open up for Peter Frampton farewell tour and it was the first time I saw them and they rocked i love this guys .
My sister made my birthday special she took me to see Peter Frampton and I'm still on cloud nine since August . BUNCHES OF PRAYERS LUVS AND BBIIGG HHUUGGS TO YA'LL.!!
LUVS YAS BUNCHES!!
That's really cool how they had the vid playing and he played along with his dad. 👍👍
Sorry, but no. Take a look at Moby Dick by John, lots of vids in different places, and turn back to this video.😕 If you love Jason as much as I do, take a look to him, playing in front of his uncles, there you will see his talent... 'and the sound is good, not like here)

"No-one comes to The Father but through The Son" - John 6:44.
Saw jason live and never ever heard such loud thunderous powerful drumming like him, god i wish i could have seen bonzo live
Catch this John Bonham Tribute by Jason Bonham at Guitar Center's Drum-Off 2009. #ICYMI #DrumOff

Fpg
Goosebumps!
5:40 Ooops left the snares off. I thought I was the only one that did that..
Amazing! I saw Jason Bonham live many years ago and he never disappoints. RIP John
Jason can play the hell out of those drums. So sad his Father isn't around to see him play.
Maybe he would not play if his dad was alive .
I’m sure his Dad his watching him from Heaven
whats with the dj at the back? wrong gig dude :D
still getting paid though.
M. O.G. Lol he’s the one controlling the videos of bongo in the back
M. O.G. Wait that auto corrected
@@silvashreds4561 You can always delete it and re post it
giggity goo Or you can edit it???
You nailed it Jason that was Beautiful. Your Dad is so proud of you.✌️🙏 He's forever the Best. Thanks for honoring Him.
John Bonham o melhor baterista de todos os tempos gênio lenda um mestre dá bateria ...
Sin duda el más grande baterista de todos los tiempos !!! El relámpago del oso !!!!
U know I really feel very fortunate to have met Jason..at a super cross race in Florida...I had not yet learn to appreciate how good his dad was and I'm glad Jason kept his promise and still plays the drums...it's a joy to hear him...beat them...I commented how zepplin music I could turn the radio off walk a few miles and being singing the song in excactly the right place when I turn the radio back on two days later... because of that metronome percision drumming...which takes ur mind off one less thing and allows musicians to focus on their part more...raising all up
I think his dad would be proud.
You hear it all the time how great Neal Peart of Rush is as a drummer. I agree, Neal Peart is a great drummer. John Bonham in my professional opinion, is the "God Father of rock drummers." Hey, Jason Bonham is good himself. John would of be proud of his son.
Si bien
Neal Peart Never had the feel of Bonham
@@photographerjonathan Neil's feel and Bonham's feel are 2 way different things..... The music they play is an obvious indicator ... When Rush started out, they were influenced by Zeppelin ( who weren't? ) but when Neil stepped in , their musical approach changed drastically....
Avelino Mayoral Neil Peart would agree.
Whos neal peart?
Trying to do best by his dad...BIG respect for Jason. The drumming skills don't even have to be mentioned.
Why, in the name of all that is good and holy, is there a DJ clowning around in the back of the same stage where Jason Bonham is playing???
C. Grey He looks like an asshat moving to the beat and swiping as though he's making the music. Guess the organizers thought the talented son of one of rock's greatest drummers wasn't exciting enough.
The Blackstone Project Yeah .. kinda made me sick :(
Dj's are the ultimate wanna be's.....
He was cutting and mixing the cross between Jason and his father's video
