The amazing thing is after 60 years these songs still hold up. I listened yesterday and I am genuinely excited!
You're right as rain about many plays of this album . I am a big fan of alternative recordings, and I've said to my friends I wish they would just release those instead of having to buy remixes.
Jimmy was an outstanding guitarist doing those songs

I like the design of the cover and the old mouldy look really matches the Red Rose Speedway double LP well with the bootleg feel. Paul’s vocals are fantastic and I love the version of Tomorrow and you’re so right about the overall sound clarity of the mix. Unfortunately my disc 1 arrived scratched but Universal Music are helping me with that! So I’m looking forward to a pristine listen of side 1! Thanks again, all the best, Paul.

Slightly off-topic but congratulations on being sent the John Lennon box - it must be absolutely thrilling as a fan to receive something like that by an artist you love. I wouldn't like to even think about how much money I have spent on the Beatles and solo beatles in the last 48 years since becoming a fan. The amount would probably horrify me. Another thoughtful review of this album which I am really grateful to have been released. Macca’s vocals are sublime, as are those of Denny and Linda. Jimmy Mc’ guitar riffs are great and Geoff Britain’s drumming is okay. I have got cd set and now need to find a way of getting the single.

Tone, great review mate! I completely agree with all the gripes you mentioned, my copies did not arrive until last night. Absolutely no excuse for Universal to wait until the day of release to ship the preorders. I think the sleeve design is piss poor, compared to the music included. Much of this album cooks on high heat and is worthy of an official release. The tracks that drag me down are "Let's Love" and "All of You," coulda done without them. I agree that the EP tracks should have been part of the CD package. High points for me are "Wildlife," "Soily," "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five," "Sally G." Cheers!

That's odd because All of You and Let's Love are the best things on it. The rest are just tired renditions of overexposed rockers.

Great review. I have not given up on the Archive releases, not least because Mark Lewisohn revealed that Laurence Juber had worked on some enhancements. I think we will get Back to the Egg / London Town at the very least. Even if not physical releases, I am sure the remaining albums will be released at 24/92 or 24/192 digitally.

Yes, indeed, love it! You mention the drummer imitating the playing of the albums, but I really appreciate him nailing Band on the Run better than any other drummer since Paul. Some aren't loving the non-piano keyboard tracks; I find them charming and interesting. Lovely to have even that short snippet of Power Cut. Blown away by the overall sound of the entire album!

Excellent review, a great effort to synthesize, song by song. I agree with you a lot... it's a shame that they didn't play 1985, with a band, but it's a great and essential album, for Beatles and Macca ‘ s fans…I’ ll buy it, in Lp and CD…thanks.

Great, detailed review, Tone. I really like OHC. To me it generally sounds like a rehearsal/warm-up to the much applauded Wings Over America/Europe tours the following year (continuing into 1976) but without the addition of the hits from Venus and Mars and Speed of Sound.

Well done, BT! I get it about the cover but honestly, doesn't take away from the experience to me. It looks like it is a bootleg or rough draft - which to me, hits the nail on the head of what this project turned out to be. I love the music the entire way thru. The gripes about a couple of the demos, I say, live with it! It is PAUL Mc. It is history, man, and i want it all. They are DEMOS 😅. Love the remixed sound (I had 9 of these tracks on Deluxe sets plus a couple bootlegs.) Geoff Britton: kicks ass! Worthy release IMO. Again, good job, BT. 👍

Well my UM drama that commenced with the 1967-1970 reissues continues with OHC. As you know I ordered the vinyl + 7”. It arrived Monday which was sooner than expected but what I received was the version without the 7” single. 🤬
I contacted the distributor immediately and finally heard back today with what appears not to be a personalised response but a generic advice stating that due to a technical hitch I received the wrong version and a replacement copy with the 7” will be dispatched by 5 July. Also there is no expectation that I return the other copy. It definitely reads as though I wasn’t the only one receiving this email.
So the upshot is, I am now the proud owner of 2 copies of the vinyl - I wonder if someone will trade my for a cd copy 🤔

I heard that the + 7" version had sold out so I expect the delay in getting you a new one is something to do with them having to wait for me copies to be pressed. Might be able to do a trade or flog it on ebay which would give enough to buy the Cd and a couple of beers :-) . At least you havent got to faff around with sending it back. Hi Tone, The Half Speed Master, the Underdubbed Mix, the latest One Hand Clapping albums plus the original Deluxe Edition of the Archive Collection is what would be released if Paul McCartney was to release Band On The Run Archive Collection in 2024! So you can that we are getting Archive Collection releases without it being advertised as Archive Collection releases. The Flaming Pie Archive Collection release demonstrates how the Archive Collection release should have been done from the start and the Half Speed Master, Underdubbed mix and One Hand Clapping plus an edited original Deluxe Archive Collection demonstrates how Band On The Run Archive Collection release should have been!
Yes maybe Matthew but as BOTR was the first one Im guessing they didnt really know exactly where they were going with the Archive series back in 2010. The series has kind of evolved with some big packages like Flaming pie, Flowers in the Dirt etc and some smaller ones like Speed of Sound, McCartney 1 etc

Thanks for this track by track review Tone. This album for me just gets better with every play. I have a stack of vinyl to listen to that I've bought over the last few weeks, as well as some CD's but all I've been playing since Friday is One Hand Clapping. It is a superb album, and one of the best releases from Paul in recent years. Stuff like this and underdubbed really are the bees knees. I do hope that this does not mark the end of the archive collections, as I would really like one for London Town and Back To The Egg. Soily, why oh why was that never put out as a single? It would've been a massive hit, could've seen them playing this on Top Of The Pops in '74/75.... But it's Jet that is my No 1track on this collection, just love it. But I'm very pleased with this album. But we've got less than a month now until John's Mind Games, can't wait for that either, as Beatles fans we are really getting spoilt this year. Let's hope we all get that on release day.....

Agree regarding the EP. I mainly buy CD these days so will miss out on those tracks. A bit annoyed about Paul's recent release philosophy to be honest, but have mentioned that before so won't labour the point.
The cover? Yes, probably should have been a gatefold. The design? Interesting. Was it prepared near to the time of recording. I can imagine Paul choosing a designer and perhaps offering a guideline: "Wings as a band is in its infancy. Can you work something around that?" Babies often slap their hands on their knees when excited, so perhaps that explains the title One Hand Clapping as the other is a wing. I'll reserve judgement until I see it close up, although on CD it will be pretty small and maybe not as imposing.

I wear myself out sometimes :-). I believe the baby design was done at the time - it's a bit weird I think but maybe your theory is correct. Hope you manage to pick this up soon.
Had a lot going on of late, but managed to engineer a trip to HMV this afternoon.
Got hold of the CD and played it when I got home. It is an absolute gem. Cannot understand why this has sat in the McCartney Archive for all of these years.
Had a huge smile on my face for the whole album. What a tremendous listen. Thanks for encouraging me to go and search it out. When he hits the mark, there is no-one better. With Mind Games on the horizon, the next month or two is going to be brilliant. It is just like being back in the mid-seventies!
Just thought I'd add my two pennorth worth regarding the packaging. I agree the lack of a gatefold is terrible, as it was with 1962-1966 and 1967-1970. The thing that nobody seems to be talking about is the criminal lack of poly lined inners. Cardboard inners mark the vinyl and paper ones are prone to splitting, sometimes in transit before they even get to you. Poly inners are not that expensive, include them in the original release. It's not like this is a new thing, EMI had lined inners back in the early 1960s.
I agree. I always find this annoying especially when you consider the price of vinyl. I did mention no poly-lined sleeve in unboxing video Ian

Hoping to get my copy on Wednesday. Happy for the release, first Paul release I've bought since 2020. Still need the Archives to return, though. Even if they could just do remastered double cd releases of London Town, BTTE, Broadstreet and Press to Play, I would be happy. There are too many good songs from these sessions that remain officially unreleased that could be on the second cd for each release.
Enjoy the album when it arrives Christopher. Im starting to lose faith that we will ever see another archive collection release - the longer it goes on , it seems the less likely it is
Hi Tone, Great review as always. Received my CD on release day from Prime. Ordered the vinyl with the EP from Sir Paul's website, and unfortunately, the shipping partner they use is the worst. Estimated delivery June 24th. The records are currently in a dump called Grove City Ohio.

Oh forgot to add the only one negative thing is i feel penalised for buying the CD and not getting the extra tracks you get with the vinyl release. As i have said before i don't have anything to play vinyl on and it is too expensive too. That is why i stick with the CD releases. Gripe over with 😂😂😂😂

Where on the list rankings from a few videos ago would you last minute slide it in? I'm curious if it would be in the top half or bottom half? I keep going back and forth about buying this or not....I probably will buy it because I'm a McCartney fan and a wings fan.
Hmm , it doesnt really fit into the recent ranking video criteria , because that was only looking at the studio albums and this is more akin to a live album . Great question though

Paul peaked vocally in the 1970`s. His voice was fantastic. You could compare him to Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury or any other of the great singers. Paul was right up there with all of them at his vocal peak. Paul`s voice is what makes "One hand clapping" a very enjoying experience.
I wish he would have done a few tracks off "Ram" like "The back seat of my car" "Ram on" "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" "Another day" "Heart of the country" but for some reason he never played the songs from "Ram" live with the exception of "Eat at home" which he did on tour in 1972. The Beatles numbers he does sounds very off.
It would have been fun to hear him do something else than "Let it be" "The long and winding road" and "Lady Madonna" He should have done rockers like "I saw her standing there" "Long tall Sally" "Get back" instead..
Anyway. One hand Clapping is worth a listen just because of Paul`s fantastic vocals. When people hear him now, and complain about his voice, you can pick up this album and listen to how beautiful he once used to sing. Thank you for another great video. I agree with your review:)
No, he peaked with The Beatles in the '60's! He just came down a shade from Mt Olympus in the '70's!
@@graniterhythm53 Not vocally. Paul was only 28 years when the Beatles ended. He was a very young and vital man full of talent. Nobody peaks vocally at 28. Paul was able to sing "Long tall Sally" better in 1973, than he used to in 1963.

@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel He had a long run. He sang very well the first time i saw him live. So i`m glad i have that memory. It`s 20 years ago now. His voice started to go down when he turned 70 years. The Queens diamond jubilee show was the first time i noticed that things had changed.

Hi, yes it does but its just the normal triple album remastered. No bonus material like the other archive collection vinyls

Great video as usual! Personally i love the whole thing. I love having these different versions of songs that we cherish. It all hangs together surprisingly well. I can see myself wearing out the grooves on this! For safekeeping i have put there 7" into my Macca Singes boxset - how bout you? BTW you may have to explain who Cliff Richard is for your American audience :)

Although I no longer own the complete bootleg I purchased years ago, but as I remember, wasn't Tragedy and Suicide apart of the One Hand Clapping sessions? But otherwise just a fantastic remix!
Suicide was definitely part of OHC. Not sure about Tragedy though

Well thank you, but it's not really the done thing to ask for one so I couldnt possibly do that. They select people on the basis of number of subscribers or if they like videos that the RUclipsr has done in the past. All I will say is watch this space.

This time, I have nothing to moan about. It sounds amazing after listening to the bootleg versions for years.
I like the cover, I don't mind putting 2 albums in it. Enough room for the two albums, the 7inch and the poster.
When The Beatles Let It Be Box was released there was a lot of moaning about the extra CD with just four songs. And now, some people are moaning why the 7inch isn't on CD.
I like the simple artwork of OHC and the used look.
I own a Mono vinyl of Ram, an amazing sounding bootleg from 2013 I believe, in a plain white cover cover with some pre-printed stains and just like One Hand Clapping a white label.
I like OHC more than the Underdubbed Band On The Run version.
Okay ....... maybe one little thing to moan about ......... I think we now have enough of various releases from the Band On The Run years.

Hi PeKe Glad you are totally happy with everything. I also like this much more than Underdubbed . I also agree time to more on to the later Wings years now. You make a great point about the moaning about the 4 track CD in LIB. Yes saw the announcement , nothing in the Netherlands yet though. I guess more dates in Europe will be announced . No there are 11 songs never released before but the sound quality here is better than we have had before. Nothing from this on Wild Life of Live but some songs on McCartney 1, Venus & Mars and Band on the Run Archive Collection but like I say inferior sound quality
As a CD only buyer I hesitate. MPL cheats by not including the EP. Also I have the Band on the Run Archive with over 50 minutes of video in poor quality, but the sound is ok. And I have heard the Bad on the run songs a few times to many. But I will probably end up buying it as usual. By the way, Paul is 82 today

I won’t buy this because the Backyard Tapes are not on the CD. I don’t buy vinyl and don’t want to be shortchanged. On a more positive note, really like what I hear of the main album on Spotify.

I think these sessions were part of them getting their act together maybe the same idea as Let It Be was supposed to be. Rehearsal and trying to tinker with the material

Having heard most of these tracks now, dare I say it, (peace, peace) would maybe a condensed single album been stronger? Also I agree it's sad to think that this "project" has been sitting dormant for 50 years. There must be reasons for this. Maybe the "powers to be" including Sir Paul himself felt, that the release of this album, with half of "BOTR" tracks on this, was just too close to the release of the original "BOTR"? What was that December "73? And this recorded August '74? Or maybe "they" felt in it's original form, it wasn't strong enough to merit an official album release? If it had, I rather doubt it would been a double album.From what I remember double albums were rarer back then?
Different times in the record industry back in '74.For Sure! From what I remember, albums, and singes were released at a much faster rate?
As Ritchie Blackmore once commented it "it was like the record companies felt the groups should be producing albums like sausages!" Bang! bang! bang! (no pun intended)

Personally I love the rawness of these recordings, although they do sound better in the new 2024 mix.I don't remember if the documentary had all these songs? Well I dont suppose there's ever been a double album that wouldn't make a better single album is there? But it is what it is. However , this was never meant to be an album, the main purpose was to make a documentary. the fact that this has come out now as an album is an afterthought that was never intended . the reason the doc didnt come out was that no Tv companies wanted to buy it. The documentary was around 50 minutes long so many of the tracks on this album didnt feature in the doc. Glad you enjoyed the video my friend.
The cover is a bit creepy to me. Brilliant album though with Paul's vocals roaring and soaring. I got mine
(CD) from CDJapan - fancy still having CD in your company title. They never let the purchaser down - the bonus tracks are all there to enjoy and the quality of packaging is always superior.

Not happy with my copy of One Hand Clapping. It had a flaw on the second 12" disc. Far from being able to just send me another of that disc UMUK said I had to return the whole thing and then they would send a replacement. Today they said they are out of stock and did I want to wait for a replacement to come back in stock or get a full refund. This for an album that I pre-ordered months ago.

Well they're sending me a replacement in the next few days. To be fair, Noel in UMUK Store Support has been very helpful and kept me fully informed of the progress with multiple emails. Fingers crossed, the replacement will be fine.
I dont think Soilly is melodic enough to be included on Band on the Run inho.
Melodic or not, I think it's a better song than many on that album
I think people are wetting themselves a bit too much over this release. It’s alright. Nothing more nothing less. A nice enough listen. Nothing special.

I will stick to the streaming version from Spotify. I’m too much of a Joe English fan with his exciting drumming and these songs just lack any rhythmic inventiveness. I suppose I’ve been too spoiled with Wings Over America !!

I’m afraid I’m not that impressed. Too many of the songs are way inferior to the original studio recordings or other live versions. The snippets of the Beatle songs are pointless. And Baby Face not for me. I find The drumming well short of Paul’s, Denny seiwell and Joe English. Well seen he was ditched
How did I know you weren't going to be impressed Edward 😂 Well I dont think anyone was expecting these versions to be better than the studio versions were they? However, they have way more energy. remember live versions of songs that you hear on live albums have been rehearsed over and over again to get them as polished as they appear on live albums. This was just the first attempt at learning and playing these songs for this new line up.
