To be clear, I love the people of Oakland (especially the die-hards in the right field bleachers who bang drums all game long and bring positive energy) but the stadium itself is a disaster. It's no wonder why attendance at this place has hit rock bottom -- and just wait for the rest of my videos from this trip. I have some additional cringeworthy footage coming soon.
Despite all my complaining, I had a really fun day. This was just the first game of a day/night doubleheader versus the Los Angeles Angels. Did Shohei Ohtani hit his 100th career home run? What did Mike Trout do? How did I manage to get a baseball in the upper deck? How annoying was stadium security? Who's the funniest hot dog vendor in the league? How epic was the celebration after rookie Luis Barrera hit a walk-off home run? This day really did have it all -- and Game 2 of the doubleheader will be a separate video with lots of surprises. Don't miss it!
Do you like the shirt I was wearing? If so, you can get one here:

That "worst" seat there at the top of section 329 is actually pretty cool for football. That little green shed was for end zone cameras because the view is directly between the uprights. Back in '04-05, the guy in that seat loved it because of the great end zone view and the shade of the camera box. I sat in sec 238, row 10 right in front of that.

My first game at Oakland was in the 90s. I was on a business trip and had a free evening. I walked up to the box office, asked for the best seats available, fully expecting nose bleeds, the ticket lady pointed to the whole map and said "everything is available". I sat on the far end of the A's dugout for like $25,! I've gone to many Oakland games since then and it hasn't changed at all, aside from a slow and steady degrading. RIP Oakland A's

The whole Oakland situation is sad. I think they are trying to make it harder to get in so they can move the team already or till they get a new stadium. However, Oakland is in severe debt right now so if they try to build a stadium is almost political suicide. The problems isn’t that they don’t want ti help them. It’s that they can’t. Now Oakland may their 3rd sports team in less than 10 years as there are rumors they are moving to cities such as Las Vegas. This whole situation is sad as the once loyal fans of this team are now revolting against the crappy management of the team they used ti love. I hope Oakland can recover soon.

Stadium officials are on such god trips. When I was a kid at Yankee stadium a few players came along the baseline to sign autographs I tried to go and stadium officials told me I couldn’t because I didn’t have tickets in that section, got me upset and my parents blasted the official. One of the players at the time was Scott proctor who was actually friends with my LL coach, my step father told my coach who then told Scott Proctor, a week later proctor came to our little league game signed balls for everyone and personally apologized to me for the occurrence at the stadium. Yet when I go to citi field m, they are so much more relaxed.

Great video, Zach. I feel so bad for the Oakland fans going through this. As you walked amongst them, you still see a love for the team. Kids and families going to games and enjoying an exciting walk off win against a division rival so beautiful. Especially with that drumline. I know that the As have been trying to work on a new stadium for several decades now. Personally, I wish there was a way that the As could build their new stadium right next to the coliseum in the parking lot. It would just so much easier for the fans to attend the games as well. But I know that the team wants to cash in the ballpark/real estate boom that several teams have been successful in implementing. That's a big reason why they've been pushing for the Downtown terminal for several years now, even though there are so many logistical problems with that site. Yet, as they have been pushing for this very difficult deal to pass through, they have also been deeply teasing and courting Las Vegas for some time now. I hate seeing teams move. It's the sad history of any sport.

I love that stadium. Ive been a diehard giants fan my whole life, and living in the bay has been really awesome to experience both stadiums. That concrete stadium is a beautiful example of the love that the A’s following has for that team. It may not be perfect but it represents the history that stadium has and the team.
Being from the Bay, I’ll always love that place. I hope they don’t leave. The city of Oakland needs to keep them here for the fans and the city itself.

San Diego’s PetCo Park claims to have “No Bad Seats” which I am here to tell you they do have bad seats. First game I took my daughter to she had a bad seat similar to the one shown here. Could not look left towards home plate because a wall was blocking her view to the right. To make matters worse, the seat was just below a place that served alcohol and it smelled like booze throughout the game. Sent the Padres a message complaining about the seat and NEVER heard anything back from them. Very poor customer service.

It's a really rough situation all around for the A's. They have tried to build a new stadium in the past in various parts of the Bay Area, but every time they have some momentum, there's like a couple other issues that come up. sorta like one step foward, 2 steps back.
so while a's ownership isnt great, you can say that they have at least tried some solutions. It's just that there is a lot of local politics that really cause the A's to struggle getting anything going, and the city leaders/local politicians are equally to blame

The fact of the matter, and I'm 68 and grew up in the Bay Area, is that the Athletics never should have moved to Oakland in 1968. They had really good attendance in Kansas City. Basically, a new stadium was built along with the arena to see if the City of Oakland and Alameda County could poach teams from somewhere else, whether San Francisco or elsewhere. Charles O'Finley, the Athletics owner, took the bait. A reminder that there was no stadium for the Raiders to play in their first few years, so they played in San Francisco, at Kezar and Candlestick, in 1960 & '61 .

I was able the catch a game there in 2019. It’s true they haven’t maintained the stadium very well and Mt. Davis is horrible, but it also didn’t have all the other nonsense you see at other stadiums intended to attract casual fans and non-baseball people. The crowd was smallish but everybody there was there for the game… great fans. Also loved the history of the place. Between the A’s and Raiders there have been an amazing number of legendary players that called that place home.

Nothing beats "The Catch" at Candlestick on Jan. 10, 1982 for Bay Area Sports! Go 49ers. Nothing also beats Oracle Park for a baseball stadium.

    • @Joey_Fabitz
      @Joey_Fabitz 2 года назад

@@ldfreitas9437 The reason the "Catch" was such a big play in 49 lore is primarily due to the fact they had been the laughing stocks of the NFL for decades prior to Jan. 10, 1982. Throughout the 60's and 70's Frisco was pathetic. During that same period across the Bay AL Davis was building a perennial bully in the Oakland Raiders. While SF was starving for something to cheer about, explaining why that fan base would basically come UNGLUED over one game winning T.D. pass, the bully of the AFC was involved in several AFC title games...
as well as causing the NFL to create new rules to deal with the Raiders.
See: Holy Roller, Lester the Molester and "Stick-um". Not to mention historical games like "Sea of Hands", "Immaculate Reception ", Ghost to the Post, The NBC debacle called the "Heidi Game" and who could forget Mike Davis intercepting Brian Sypes end zone pass with no time left to propel the Raider's past the Brown's at the Mistake by the Lake (Cleveland Municipal Stadium) during the divisional round of the 1980 season.
Yeah, sure, the Raiders tanked after the 9ers got Montana but remained competitive at least.
My point, the Catch is one play. Thankfully the Raiders gave me decades of excitement back when the NFL wasn't populated by millionaire crybabies kneeling on the blood soaked flag like Crappernick did.
