I I installed this on my 2017 Ram 1500 a few weeks ago and love it. Looks good and performs better, with no cooling issues at all. Yeah, over $300 for a plastic and low designed intake. They should place a small "wall" in the front to prevent high way air directly press the filter, and I saw the video, they took the AGS away, there should be one.
Kurt Mccann if one wants to improve their mileage, don’t fart around with fancy breather assemblies. Simply get a Tuner and turn off the MDS. I went from an average of 19 to 22 mpg on the highway.

In Az we dont get much rain BUT when we do everything floods. I have always had a concern with aftermarket air intakes because when you have water a foot up on your hood they suck water. I have put a gopro in the bottom of my air box to see how much water actually went in my air box. No water at all came in. I put the gopro in my engine bay and as long as you keep moving forward the engine bay has a big air pocket that doesn't allow water over your engine again if you keep moving once you stop it fills up. I would be concerned about rain because those drain holes are very small and the suction of the intake is much stronger than the rain being pushed and pulled up and your filter will be soaked. This is my concern and opinion.
Thanks for the video, super clear and easy. Couple of questions: 1.) Does this fit the 5th gen 2019 Ram with the 5.7L? 2.) Recommend any twisty funnels to get to the engine oil fill? Would rather not take the whole thing off for an oil change 3.) Does that PCV breather filter need to be cleaned at the same interval? As a side note I don't understand why the PCV breather gets fed back to the intake, but I see this on all engines. Like you said it decreases intake air density and throws oil at the filter, and it's not like we're short on air
You need to do a video showing why it won’t overheat your truck, some of these people ought to read the comments before commenting the same thing over and over, I haven’t seen anything about trucks overheating
Thank you for making thos video. I have a 2017 hemi express which i use to pull a trailer 6 days a week. I think i can benefit from this intake. Make more videos like this.
This intake is going to show more of a gain at higher speeds when you are forcing air into the motor. The faster you drive, the more you would benefit from the intake.
Question wouldn't this intake prevent some air... ok a little air to hit the radiator would it affect anything?? Cooling ??? Thanks and have a good one
It does not block enough air to the radiator to cause any issues with heat. We have tested this intake while towing upwards of 8000lbs in 100* heat without an issue.
Blocking the radiator does engine run hotter. Does fan run longer when towing. Hp gains?? MPG? I would like to hear your thoughts on it now. Thinking about getting one for a ram 1500.
@10:50 “see my hand right there” that’s the wing that completely obstructs the A/C heat exchanger and is probably going to burn out the condenser. Looks amazing and I’m sure it would perform quite well with a hood scoop and perhaps cowl induction. I wouldn’t recommend obstruction of the cooling system as a performance modification.
We have been using this kit for 7 years now on multiple trucks. We have daily driven, towed 8000lbs, drag raced, made 3000 mile road trips, and driven in temps ranging from -15* to 110* without ever having an issue with the front wing blocking airflow to the radiator. It is not an issue in any way.
Will this work with a 2005 hemi 1500. Also my hood had a air scoop thing and so will it be a problem with water going in the scoop at high speeds and is there a power difference or gas mileage. This video is amazing thank you.
Warranty questions are tough because every dealership is different. It should not affect your warranty in any way, but some dealerships will fight you on everything...even as simple as not using them for your routine oil changes.
Question: Doesn’t changing the amount of air available affect the rest of the computer controlled parameters? I’m by no means smart on modern engines, but aren’t they’re set up from the factory to balance power, fuel efficiency, torque curve, using the computer to control fuel, air, spark timing, etc? After installation, is there any follow up maintenance like computer/software changes?
At the start of the install, you will see where we disconnected the negative battery terminal. Doing this will reset the computer so that it adjusts to the increased airflow quicker. The computer will adjust for the extra air on its own, but takes longer to do so if you dont reset the computer yourself by disconnecting that negative battery terminal.
The MAF (or maybe it's a MAP in the manifold) is downstream of the intake, so the ECU will meter the air correctly. It'll learn the air flow rate and adjust the fuel flow to get the right AFR. The only limitation would be fueling if this intake brings in a crap ton of air, but I don't see anyone mentioning that as an issue.
Just installed this today. Only issue I am having is I loosened the AC line bolt on the side but MAYBE got 1/8th of movement. Nothing compared to what it looked like in the video. The video actually makes it look like you bend the bracket a bit to get it that low? My AC line is definitely still pushing on the new Vararam making it crooked. Any suggestions? Thank you - mike
Hi guys! I just purchased a 2017 RAM Rebel with this mod, and they installed it without that chrome air breather. Do you have the part number for that? Thanks in advance and great tutorial!
It will still work with the grille shutters because the shutters do open at WOT. I always recommend removing the shutters though, for both increased airflow to the filter and better cooling.
@@trigun890The top portion of the front cooler is the transmission cooler. So are you telling people it's ok if the transmission runs hotter than it should?
Great video! 2015 big horn. I'm looking at this so I can free up space on the right side for an auxiliary battery. BTW, is there any reason to put the plastic engine cover back on. I am also concerned about blocking air to the radiator and Trans cooler. Thanks again for a well produced video!
The Vararam intake generally makes about 16-18hp on the dyno, and performs even better at speed when you are forcing air into the motor. The ported throttle body will get you another 8-15hp depending on your other mods. The more you have done to the truck, the more you will gain from the throttle body.
Thanks for the install video, I should have watched it instead of relying on the included instructions. The instructions that come from the manufacturer are kinda... Well they kinda suck. They don't address the AC line, they reference the horn with something about moving the wire harness and I had no clue what to do with all the washers. I'd like to also comment on the quality of the product. First it's an air intake, so making it out of plastic is a great idea since its not structural in any way. Two the holes not being perfect for the screws is no big deal, especially since the kit includes the washers and is made of plastic. enlarge the outside holes one drill bit size and it's done, move past it or just get a grasp on reality, look around and list all the "perfect" things you see. Just go take a look at the truck you're putting the air intake on, look close, it's pretty freakin far from perfect, hell if it were perfect you wouldn't be modifying it. It's an awesome product that Moe's Performance really does test, I've seen the Moe's Performance trucks first hand, both Daily Driver and Race, they use the peoducts they sell. Btw I'm just a customer who appreciates a company with integrity, customer care and first hand knowledge about the products they sell. I'm also part of the Subaru community which is very progressive and it's been a struggle in the RAM community for me since the CIA "to use or not to use" debate is still going on, so a huge shout out to Moe's for never talking down to me and for sharing your experience and knowledge with all of us.
This is a cleanable/oiled filter, so you can clean and reuse it just like every other intake. Vararam does sell replacement filters though if it ever gets to a point where you need a new one.

Awesome video Mat. This is my first time to see this type of cold air intake looks great and I bet it does perform well. I have a 2014 ram 5.7 L and still want to do the 6.4 intake modification to it. is there anything like this for that intake?
Like the video, but would like to know what the thoughts are on vents. I have a 2017 also but I have auto air vents behind my grill. How would this system work with those.
The active grille shutters open when you go wide open throttle, so they wont affect performance with this kit. Having said that, I always remove those shutters anyway. Being in a warmer climate, they serve no benefit to us whatsoever, so I always remove them to help cool the motor and get more air to the air filter.
Great video! Just wondering, i have an AFE throttle body spacer. Will i need to cut the silicon coupler for proper height? And also with the active shutter removal, is there a kit or something so that when i remove it i don't get a code or light that they don't work?
Depending on the thickness of the spacer, you may need to trim the silicone coupler slightly. The coupler that comes in the 2013+ kits is 5.5" tall, and we also have a 4.5" tall coupler here that is used on the 09-12 kits. We can also send you the 4.5" coupler if you wanted to go that route. And there are a few tricks to disable the engine light from the shutter delete, but we typically just erase the code with custom tuning.
All you guys talking about sound. If you here a sound a deep sound etc that's called restriction.... some intakes the plastic tube gives it a little throaty sound. But that deep sound is the sound of restrictive air flow being sucked threw gaps etc. You dont want to hear anything. The less you hear the better. No noise equals less tube run, less restriction. Just try taking off your tube from the throttle body. Step on the gas. You wont hear anything. No restriction wide open
your filter "Wing" is cover the upper part of the ac condenser which is the transmission cooler.... so I don't know what great about that ....Looks great thou ...hope you figure something out especially for the hot states in summer like Huston Texas etc.
Please read the comments. I have addressed this numerous times that it does not affect cooling in any way. We are also located in Houston, TX and have been using this kit on our personal vehicles for the last 7 years with no cooling issues at all.
@@moesperformance7499😂 Anyone that is selling something always says here's no problem with their product. Also that thing is in the way when a fan belt breaks or you have a leak somewhere and can't see it . Overpriced garbage with no extra benefits.

But yet this guy says it's ok , he explained it. 😂😂😂😂 I use a door to keep rain and wind out ... This is a door blocking air needed for cooling.
@@Oldschoolrules123 It takes less than 30 seconds to loosen the 1 8mm clamp that secures this intake to the throttle body, and the entire unit lifts up and out of the way making maintenance just as easy, if not easier, than with the stock airbox. We also test every product that we sell on our own trucks so that we can give the most accurate feedback to customers instead of just relying on what manufacturers claim.
Yes it can. This intake pulls all its air from the front grille, and the sport hood and regular hood are the same on the bottom, so the hood does not affect its fit or performance.
@@Oldschoolrules123 The factory engine cover sits tight to the intake manifold and does not allow any air to pass between the cover and the manifold. With that factory cover removed, there is more than 5" of space between the top of the intake manifold and the bottom of the Vararam airbox which does allow air to pass between them.
You can put the engine cover back on if you would like. The cover traps heat to keep the engine warm, but its so hot where we are down here in Texas, that we always remove the cover.
Seams like the big chin spoiler hanging down in front of the radiator and ac condenser and whatever other coolers are in the front on the truck will cause some type of overheating issues?
It does not affect your cooling. We have run this kit on our own personal trucks for 7 years now in the Sourh Texas heat, and have never had an issue with coolant, oil, or trans temps.
We tested this kit on a 2012 Crew cab about 5 years ago. It picked up just under .4 and 3mph in the 1/4 mile. That was on a colder night in December though where it was forcing in cold outside air. Gains will vary based on outside temp.
Doesn't that block the top half of the radiator. In the summer wouldn't this brings up engine heat in city driving especially in southern states. I do like the way it looks just wondering?
We have been using this intake on many of our own personal trucks for the last 7 years, and have never had an issue with cooling. There is still plenty of air making it through to the radiator to keep the motor cool.

There never was a problem with the filter sealing properly. People were not bending the AC line down during the install which was causing the airbox to sit crooked. When they closed the hood, it would then twist the airbox and cause the filter to pop out of the groove. If installed per our instructions in this video, then that is not a problem. And the Vararam does still work with the active shutters because those shutters do open when you get in the throttle. They only close on a cold start or at low rpm cruise.
Do you know if vararam makes one of these for the 6.4? Or if it's possible to use this 5.7 one and pipe it to the throttle body ainf the 6.4 sits angled a d not straight up?
Is the filter replaceable. Can I put an oiled filter in place of the dry filter there from a part store. For example. If I went into a part store and baught a K&N filter the same size and diameter of the dry filter that comes with the kit, would I be able to swap the filters?
Darn this video has a lot of haters ... facts it’s about the same price or cheaper than the other name brand filters ... but ... it looks dope as shit specially with the colored covers orange or red first time I seen it for a split second I thought I was staring at an engine swap lol
I have this rt few mods done uts running pretty hard I'm fixing to out 6.1 heads I have a problem I can't figure out every once in awhile I get a vibration that's not in the tires are wheel and temp goes up please help and is there anything to keep Trans brake locking up
The factory hood scoop is tiny in comparison to what the Vararam pulls in from the front grille. I also don't like that half of the Mopar intake tube is corrugated which hurts airflow.
Atheistically it looks great....but I see problems 1) your covering a portion of your radiator with the lower flap that doesn't secure to anything, it just hangs 2) you need to removed the entire assembly to do a simple oil change 3) I am not convinced snow, ice, water at 60-80 mph will magically find its way into the drainage holes..... Also what are the actual performance increase in HP Tq and Back pressure reduction?
The front wing covering the top few inches of the radiator is not a problem. We are in South Texas and have been running these through 100*+ summers for the past 7 years without a single issue. You do not have to remove this unit to change the oil. Even if you did, there is 1 IAT sensor plug and 1 hose clamp it has to come off to take this piece off. Rain, snow, and mud are not an issue as long as the intake is installed correctly and sealed off to the insulated liner under the hood. Again, we have been running this kit for 7 years now through flooding rains, occasional snow, and off-road use in mud and sand without any problems. We have seen 16-18hp on the Dyno, and .3-.4 in the 1/4 mile from this kit.
really impressed with vararam felt the difference above 30 mph thanks moes performance for your fast shipping

It does not. We like to run a 180* thermostat on these trucks, and the temps stay right at 185* while cruising.
It would be great to see a video showing actual data on that. I’m sceptical still
Also, what kind of trucks? Which engine?
@@reaper4641 IT DOES NOT OBSTRUCT AIR FLOW FROM THE COOLING SYSTEM. 😠
618 B.K.G no need to yell friend and it sure does. If that model had the tow package it would completely block the aux trans cooler and a/c exchanger
Now all you need is an electric Grabber Hood or a Cowl Induction Hood.
Air Grabber would look awesome!
It looks like it blocks the radiator a bit, any issues with the vehicle running hotter? Especially when towing
Thanks Matt for a most excellent install video!!!
Will this work with a 2005 hemi 1500. Also my hood had a air scoop thing and so will it be a problem with water going in the scoop at high speeds and is there a power difference or gas mileage. This video is amazing thank you.
will this void a factory warranty, It looks cool and would purchase
Warranty questions are tough because every dealership is different. It should not affect your warranty in any way, but some dealerships will fight you on everything...even as simple as not using them for your routine oil changes.
This video made it so simple to install
@@moesperformance7499how long would it take if i don’t unplug the battery ?
Just installed this today. Only issue I am having is I loosened the AC line bolt on the side but MAYBE got 1/8th of movement. Nothing compared to what it looked like in the video. The video actually makes it look like you bend the bracket a bit to get it that low? My AC line is definitely still pushing on the new Vararam making it crooked. Any suggestions? Thank you - mike
Wow I was just looking at one of these at my local performance shops and drooled
Hi guys! I just purchased a 2017 RAM Rebel with this mod, and they installed it without that chrome air breather. Do you have the part number for that? Thanks in advance and great tutorial!
You can use any universal breather filter for this. Almost all local parts stores will carry the Spectre brand breather filters.
@@moesperformance7499 excellent! Thank you!
Wish there was a way to use this intake with the sport hood and make these good vents functional!
I like this alot. One question though? If your truck has A.G.S. (ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTERS). Will this still work the same.
It will still work with the grille shutters because the shutters do open at WOT. I always recommend removing the shutters though, for both increased airflow to the filter and better cooling.
the flap in front of rad looks like it covers 1/3 of the cooling system how about over heating
Can we get an answer on this???
That’s what the fan on the other side is for. And it really pushes air so I wouldn’t worry about it.
Liquid cooled vehicles rarely over heat while moving. Do a 180 temp mod and don't worry about it
@@mattrr4008😂, the fan pulls the air through into the engine compartment. You have absolutely no knowledge on vehicles.
@@trigun890The top portion of the front cooler is the transmission cooler. So are you telling people it's ok if the transmission runs hotter than it should?
Do you guys have like a performance package for a 2014 Ram?
Great video! 2015 big horn. I'm looking at this so I can free up space on the right side for an auxiliary battery. BTW, is there any reason to put the plastic engine cover back on. I am also concerned about blocking air to the radiator and Trans cooler. Thanks again for a well produced video!
So was there a dyno to let us know the before and after numbers so we can know what to expect?
Love your ram I own a 2012 crew cab with 133000 miles Iove it
Debating on which CAI to go with. What kind of gains can I expect with this paired with your TB
The Vararam intake generally makes about 16-18hp on the dyno, and performs even better at speed when you are forcing air into the motor. The ported throttle body will get you another 8-15hp depending on your other mods. The more you have done to the truck, the more you will gain from the throttle body.
Moe's Performance is this increase with no tune?
If clutch fan has been removed and replaced with electric fan will there be any issues
What do you do when the filter gets damaged/dirty and needs replacing?

Anyone know if the "wing" causes coolant temps to go up? Looks like it blocks part of the rad.
Did that silver breather filter come with it? Do you have a link? I never put anything on mine after installing the varam air filter
That’s a nice set up and a whole lot less restrictive than the factory box. I bet it sounds good to when you get on it
Great video!
Just think, you're sitting in traffic on a day and the fan is pulling air through and pulling that flap right up tight against the transmission part of the cooler...
Looks cool. Can you hear a difference at all inside the cab when driving WOT?
The Vararam isnt much louder than stock because it seals off to the insulated liner under the hood.
Matt, how will the active grill shutters affect the intake? Should I remove them and install a shutter delete kit for optimal performance?
I always remove the shutters regardless of which intake you have. Unless you live in a northern state with very cold temps, they serve no benefit.
Can this intake be set up with the sport hood? I’m guessing so but you don’t show the truck hood in the video.
Yes it can. This intake pulls all its air from the front grille, and the sport hood and regular hood are the same on the bottom, so the hood does not affect its fit or performance.
Question what was the reason why you had to delete the engine cover?🛠🇺🇸
You dont have to remove it if you dont want to. That cover traps heat though, so we always take it off on all of our trucks.
@@moesperformance7499😂 the cover traps heat .... So we will cover it with a bigger piece of plastic. 😂😂😂😂😂
Will it be beneficial to use my Active Grill Shutter delete kit to increase airflow to the wing of the Vararam?
Yes it will. You dont have to remove the shutters to use this intake, but it will perform better with the shutters removed.
How are oil changes conducted with the dealership
How do you change a fan belt on the side of the road without taking all of that garbage off? I always carry a extra fan belt.
Whats really impressive is how clean your engine bay is lol
@violentjett Mine's cleaner than yours
Something I always clean myself. When I detail my rig it gets the whole shabang. Makes it nice for future work.
It’s a brand new truck
Is it ok to put the engine cover back on before you put the air box on or does the cover need to be off ?
You can put the engine cover back on if you would like. The cover traps heat to keep the engine warm, but its so hot where we are down here in Texas, that we always remove the cover.
Seams like the big chin spoiler hanging down in front of the radiator and ac condenser and whatever other coolers are in the front on the truck will cause some type of overheating issues?
It does not affect your cooling. We have run this kit on our own personal trucks for 7 years now in the Sourh Texas heat, and have never had an issue with coolant, oil, or trans temps.
how much performance can we expect to see under nice cool dry conditions ?
We tested this kit on a 2012 Crew cab about 5 years ago. It picked up just under .4 and 3mph in the 1/4 mile. That was on a colder night in December though where it was forcing in cold outside air. Gains will vary based on outside temp.
Does removing the shutter behind the grille help for more air ?
amermuscle yes look up on active grill shutters delete
So I’m sure you can use ur stock hood but is it compatible with an aftermarket hood
were can i get one for my 2019 rebel new body style? love that orange, also im in minnesota safe to this in the cold winters?
Doesn't that block the top half of the radiator. In the summer wouldn't this brings up engine heat in city driving especially in southern states. I do like the way it looks just wondering?
We have been using this intake on many of our own personal trucks for the last 7 years, and have never had an issue with cooling. There is still plenty of air making it through to the radiator to keep the motor cool.
Loving this rig
Seems cool, I don’t like that it covers some of the radiator and condenser...

Didn’t cover much of the radiator. But totally covered the trans cooler.
Had they ever fixed the problem of the filter not sealing properly?
Also, would this product work properly if I have grill air shutters in my Ram?
There never was a problem with the filter sealing properly. People were not bending the AC line down during the install which was causing the airbox to sit crooked. When they closed the hood, it would then twist the airbox and cause the filter to pop out of the groove. If installed per our instructions in this video, then that is not a problem.
And the Vararam does still work with the active shutters because those shutters do open when you get in the throttle. They only close on a cold start or at low rpm cruise.
Moe's Performance
Would that suffocate the engine during idel and low rpm cruising?
Would the install be very similar on a 2014 5.7?
How much HP did it add
Do you know if vararam makes one of these for the 6.4? Or if it's possible to use this 5.7 one and pipe it to the throttle body ainf the 6.4 sits angled a d not straight up?
Is the filter replaceable. Can I put an oiled filter in place of the dry filter there from a part store.
For example. If I went into a part store and baught a K&N filter the same size and diameter of the dry filter that comes with the kit, would I be able to swap the filters?
This is an oiled filter, so you can clean, oil, and reuse it.
Does that front wing fit over radiator on trucks with the tow package?
Darn this video has a lot of haters ... facts it’s about the same price or cheaper than the other name brand filters ... but ... it looks dope as shit specially with the colored covers orange or red first time I seen it for a split second I thought I was staring at an engine swap lol
I have this rt few mods done uts running pretty hard I'm fixing to out 6.1 heads I have a problem I can't figure out every once in awhile I get a vibration that's not in the tires are wheel and temp goes up please help and is there anything to keep Trans brake locking up
Two questions, would it be beneficial to get a functioning ram air hood similar to the sport models? And does it come it red? Thanks!!
It doesn’t come it red but honestly I think it’s too easy to paint it, you should be fine
So I have a question. That plastic flap hanging in front of the radiator does it block cooling any?
No it does not.
is there anything like this ram air intake available for a 2006 4.7 1500 dodge
Will this fit on the 2019 classic with the active grill shutters?
Have you tried the Mopar intake with the ramair hood kit ? I've been going back and forth between these trying to decide which one to buy .
The factory hood scoop is tiny in comparison to what the Vararam pulls in from the front grille. I also don't like that half of the Mopar intake tube is corrugated which hurts airflow.
It's corrugated on the outside only. Completely smooth on the inside.
Is the installation of the Air Grabber affected by the presence of an oil catch can?
The Vararam intake will work with the Billet Technology catch can as well.
Moe's Performance thanks for the quick reply and clearing up some of my concerns.
The instructions I received for my kit say the hole for the air sensor needs to be pointed towards the firewall.
As long as the connection can reach the sensor you’ll be okay
I wonder if it’ll fit on a v6 3.6
It will not unfortunately.
Will that intake work on a 2018 Ram 1500 Sport?
Yes it will. It works on all 2009-2018 Ram 5.7 trucks.
Does the void warranty
The MF Hernandez I'd like to know that as well
did you remove your active grille shutters?
