  • 5.7L v8 Hemi engine pulled for a Camshaft, Long tube header and torque converter install. The top end of the 5.7L Hemi is pulled out of the engine bay & apart for the 3 very important performance mods at once. This might help some people looking into doing a cam upgrade on their v8 hemi or long tube headers. In the end the cammed 5.7L v8 hemi with long tubes sounds amazing!
    The new cam being installed is non MDS & the long tubes are Dynatech. If you have any questions about the install make sure to drop a comment.

      First of all I'd like to say I admire your dedication & tenacity of following through with this video. So many builds on youtube skip so much that it's not very informative. This is pure internet gold brother! Do you know how many people this will help get a better idea what they're facing when approaching a build? My only gripe about this build is that you should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS start a bolt by hand when possible, especially when dealing with aluminum heads.

      cylinder 1 (when looking at the car from the front is the cylinder closest to you on the driver side) must be at TDC or top dead center, meaning it is in its top most position it can achieve. If the heads are off it is easy to see, if heads are on then remove the spark plug from the 1st cylinder and insert a long piece of straightened close hanger (make sure it is long enough to not fall in) and rotate the engine until the hanger comes up and then starts to go back down, rotate back and forth until you feel the hanger is in its highest position. The cam hash mark will be at 12 o'clock and the crankshaft hash mark at 5 o'clock (weird configuration considering most Chevy's do 6 o'clock camshaft and 12 o'clock crankshaft. If your 1st cylinder is at the top but the marks are not in the aforementioned position continue to rotate the assembly until they are all in the correct position. Hope this helps!

    Gotta be a dealer mechanic...
    Watching that dude use an abrasive wheel on the block deck to clean the gasket material while dumping all kinds of abrasives and old gasket material into the cylinders was a major cringe moment. WTH, why not just dump sandpaper into the engine while he's at it. As if that wasn't bad enough, he outdoes himself with not cleaning the cam inside and out before installing it. Bet he re-used the cam / timing chain bolt too.
    Breaking the oil pan gasket's seal and not installing a new one is another classic.
    Stressing the transmission lines to remove the OEM converter was another WTF moment. The E-clips under the white plastic retainers remove easily but apparently he didn't know it or didn't want to take the minute to disconnect them so F*** it, bend the transmission cooler lines.
    Reinstalling the original head bolts that are a one time use was another eye rolling moment. Never re-use torque to yield head bolts. Then he goes on to using an impact on the rocker arm shaft bolts. Ace likely didn't apply any dielectric grease to the coil boots either before he drove the valve covers on with the impact driver.
    If the factory built engines that way, people would RUN from Dodge products. Damn shame since the engine had something like 30K miles on it before he put his hands on it.

    First thought. True definition of Backyard Mechanics shown in this video. Did you use New head bolts( that isn't shown here but is a MUST on a 5.7 hemi.) were the lifters changed ( Not shown but another must if you're going to re-cam with a higher performance cam) ? While the springs were shown to be changed to I guess a stronger spring, nothing shows that new pushrods were used. Then there was that fluid that came out of the converter. Looks burned in the video and if so, it would be a great idea to have addressed the issue before putting in a new converter (of which it's not shown that the converter was filled with fluid before it was installed ( which is certainly a known good thing to do). Fact is, that the 5.7 hemi while a decent motor, it does have valve train issues and since a new cam was installed , it seems a bit hap hazard that nothing else but the springs were addressed. Personally! If it had been me going that deep into the valve train. EVERYTHING would have been changed to better than OE things. Meaning push rods, lifters spring, all bolts and cam. I'd probably gone ahead and port and polished the heads too while I was that deep. Especially since I was going to be going long tube headers. And I didn't see new plugs put into this motor either so I am left having to assume that it wasn't done. Water pump would be changed as well as a new thermostat since I was that far as well as hoses. IN the end, all I see is an engine when pushed too hard will come apart. Meaning lifters will fail or a pushrod will get bent. And that deep I'd have deleted the mds too.

    • @AH-mp5di
      @AH-mp5di 4 года назад

      They said the MDS was turned off and the thermostat was changed to a 180 degree one......I believe other things linke the water pump that the owner mentioned will likely get changed by him on a gradual basis.

    I bought a stage 3 camshaft kit for a SBC 5.7 vortec engine, the kit came with the camschaft lifters, gear and timing chain, I put the stage 3 cam, the gear and the timing chain, but I did not put the new lifters that came I put the stock ones in the kit, now when I drive my truck it doesn't take off, I press the throttle and it almost doesn't run, the engine sounds as if I hadn't put anything on it, my question is the following: does the engine of my truck work? So why didn't I put the new lifters on it?

    Super Nice greetings from Bayern (Bavaria, germany) & even me, also an LX Charger R/T owner & Tuner 👋🍀🙂
    @1st:
    i saw the 1st Episode here with you & your Charger & i was amazed about your Work & build/your Charger, even because it meets exactly my taste & yes, also that it's the same Gen Charger like mine...so it's even a little more interesting for me instead the newer Chargers however they're beautyful & perfect Cars for me.. however, the LX is even a little more interesting for me because it's the same Car what i'm building an Special, little different Project instead the most Common builds of these Chargers & modern Muscles :)
    I Hope to see more of your build, mods &&& about this in Future, too?!?!?!🤔🙂😋
    @2nd:
    I've an Importand question! Hope you'll Tell me something about, PLEASE!? 🤔🙂
    --> Can you tell me what viscosity grade & kind of motor oil you're using for your HEMI, even this particular Car???
    Even because i'm thinking about that the whole time, especially since & because i've seen that the 5.7 HEMI's should get 5W20 motoroil viscosity grade only, or even Chrysler recommend that....& I'm Not really amazed about that Low warm viscosity grade of "20" & think this Low grade could be the/a possibility for the "Most Common Problems/issues" of the HEMI's like the "HEMI Tick" & "dropping Valve Seat Rings" & even because i'll get, or even MAKE an very long lasting Car with my present Project/build... even i've this premission for that particular Charger RT Daytona of me & yes, it could be the solution for prevent the Car of the most Common issues of these Cars/Model.... because i've done some Things on my Charger now to get that possible! But i'm Not ready with that yet because i think i should get the best solution about motoroil for this particular Car/HEMI. But so i've to Tell you something about it, that you could know what i'm talking about :)
    ---> my 2006 Charger RT Daytona ( Top Banana! 😋)
    I've searched, found, bought, (in N.C. USA) organized shipping & Import to me to Bayern this particular 2006 Charger R/T Daytona all by myself last Summer until it arrived me in october...& I moded, tuned, customized it also all done by myself & own hands between Oct.20 until June.21...since then i'm driving the Car & i'm in "7th HEMI heaven" because i've Got&build exactly that what i was dreaming of a long time ago...but you know how it is about moding and customizing an Car, especially the own one; you're never finish the build because you're already finding something else to do or you would like to get again 😋& so you're working again on the build😅
    You should know about that i've got an 15-row Motor Oil Radiator with active Thermostat in the sandwichplate that Open at roundabout 180°F/82°C (& the same for the cooling water/fluid, i'm using an Thermostat with the same opening Temperatures, too)
    & The Oil Radiator was the best Mod in my eyes If you like to get an cooler engine, operating on roundabout 25°C/~40°F lower than Stock (Runs at 90°C at most time in driving conditions like cruising with also full throttle sometimes on "mountain terrain" country roads--> don't find the right words for still in the Moment, sorry 🙈😅😃)
    However, i think that's a lot better about wear or even to prevent the HEMI of the dropping Valve Seat Rings & also about thinning Out the Motor Oil in too high operating Temperatures, what is 1 of the biggest Problems about issues with the Lifters/needle bearing Rollers....(HEMI Tick)
    I Wish i could Show you the Car, because hey, it's moded with VORS TR4 Rims in 19×10.5 @ all Corners, what's really wide especially at the frontend & it's a staggered tire only Option with 255/45 R19 at front-& 295/40 R19 at the rearend. Also an Set of BC Racing BR Type Coilovers brought it really deep and the whole Thing looks so mean! & even a little different to the most modded LX, too.
    I've choosen this Not Common parts and way, with the premission of get an DRIFT Style American Muscle! & hey, it's so fantastic, especially with that deep concave, shinY black rims to the shiny yellow Charger --> 🐝 (😍😉)😃
    If it's possible to Show you & If you like to see it, just let me know please! :)
    But i hope to hear something about your solution of choose the Motor Oil for your build, PLEASE!?🍀🙂🍀👍

I've got a 2017 5.7L challenger and over winter i'm going to get a comp 274 cam and kooks long tube headers w/ catted mids done and dyno tuned by High Horse Performance, wasn't sure where to go next - i'd like to try and stay as N/A as possible with a goal of 500RWHP and it being reliable enough to daily.

      I wouldn’t do a 274 cam it’s too big for the 5.7 and you’ll lose a ton of low end torque. I have the 270 comp cam and it’s perfect! Probably the biggest you’d wanna go on a 5.7, and I’m putting down 430 wheel hp. A 274 will gain a tad more up top but considering if you driving on the street in traffic where rpms are low you’ll feel the massive low end torque loss in the 274.
