    Vararam works best while driving. A dyno won’t show its true gains. Also the small dip in the dyno graph is your secondaries in your intake manifold opening.

    Here is my Number4 concern, and a number 5 fix it. 4)The reason for changing the assembly- regardless of brand - is to increase some HP and improve MPG. no matter what the gain - how many square inches of A/C condenser and Radiator Have you blocked off? I think that alone would cause me to skip this system. It to me looks like 6 inches or so that it drops down times the width ( approx. 24?) = 144 square .inches? A/C & Cooling system works harder while towing for some HP? The K&N 63 Series is rated to ad 15HP. Does It - I do not know, but it will not possibly cause heat issues, or at the least, added stress to two other systems. 5) simply take the cosmetic cover and trim it to clear, to clear the Ram air system. Great video though. Now that I saw it installed I will finish the video to see what happens. If you did not gain the 15HP K&N Here I come
    Sorry had to come back. There should be a large fan blower at the grill!!!! HOOD CLOSED!!!!! With the hood open you ARE NOT testing it as it would be used, Air being forced through grill to throttle body. It is just grabbing the air even from above the engine , over the fenders ETC. Stock system done the same way.

    • @autovice
      @autovice  2 года назад

      @Jerry Horn Thanks for the feedback, and for watching the whole video. Real quick on the hood open vs closed. I agree the system should work better with the hood closed and air flow from a fan to simulate driving conditions. The reason I decided on the hood open is because thats how I tested the stock and aFe systems. So I wanted to keep as many things the same as possible. Even though the other intakes are self enclosed, I figured the air flow should be the same. If I saw gains that way, then I know it will get more while driving. Covering up the A/C condenser and radiator is a bit weird. But I haven't seen anyone have problems with it. A good test for that would be a towing with A/C on vs. A/C off. To see if that makes a difference. So far I've driven it all over northern Nevada and California with no issues. I don't tow much but I do load up the bed pretty good. I'll post up any updates if I run into problems. Thanks again!

      @@autovice Maybe a 45-50 mile loop ( or more?)of some sort and you could give the results. I am sure all would trust ya to report the real numbers. Do not know how to rate what may or my not be blocked, I would assume ( but we know what that means) that it would effect the vehicle over the long term. I will be ordering the 63 series from K&N for my truck. Can the biggest advertized tq. & Hp gains of there 4 that they make and of all the ones I looked into. The 63 is NOT carb. ready. But that is Calif. fault not mine.

    Based on my experience, on my ram to maximize afe intake performance i recommend to add an air scoop duct on the grill to be directed to the factory intake inlet based on my ar reading the truck goes little bet lean

    • @autovice
      @autovice  2 года назад +1

      @Fawaz alsobay That would work. It would be a functional ram air system. It would run a little lean. We noticed the Vararam is running a little lean too. A good tune would fix that.

      I did that on my Dakota, Will do it also on my new to me Ram 1500 w/5.7. I also got some Cooltex insulation tape to but insulation on the engine side of what i made. Aluminum easy to accept and get rid of heat, but if it doesn't get warm in the first place incoming air is cooler. Computer supposed to keep air/fuel ratio constant. Maybe just dirty injectors.

    Great vid man, I know I'm late to the show. I love the look of the Vararam, but I feel that I could fabricate the filter house long out of some fabricated aluminum "just to make me feel fancy."
    Anyways if you're wanting some depth and throatyness for cheap. I'd highly recommend the Carven TR series muffler. By itself (3" inlet & outlet) makes a hell of a difference. I couldn't bring myself to drop $1200 on a CatBack, when I could do custom pipes with a performance muffler for similar sounds.
    Anyways, again thanks for the awesome vid, you did your due diligence to be thorough with both products.

    "spark knock is common on an intake without a tune". "It's a bit hotter today". This is hard to hear lol. SAE correction corrects for weather on the dyno and should be used at all times. The ram is speed density airflow modeling so your fuel calculations are unaffected by the intake. It's a ram air, you cannot simulate air speed on basic chassis dyno. The only way to test this intake is to buy a dragy and do 3 runs on the stock intake and then an hour later do 3 runs again 60-100 and compare and hope wind speed and air direction and temperature is all negligible.
