- We finally start and finish the reconstruction and refurbishment of our aluminum solar/radar arch. It needed to be stripped, altered with different supports, re-painted, and mounted. We used all awlgrip products for the paint.

ABOVE THE WATERLINE --- I ALWAYS use Butyl Tape ! Big secret it seems, not like devils glue, sticks like bubble gum, seals like the dickens! I use it on all my thru-hull and misc hardware. Great you are spreading the word! Great work as always guys ! Love the channel!
It has been working great so far! Good to hear positive things about it! Thanks for watching :)
I admire how you are not hesitant to tackle such big projects. Well done.
Thanks so much Kenneth!
big projects are just a lot of little projects combined into one
She's getting ready for the long Caribbean run. You guys rock.
Oh yes she is!
Everything is looking great, thanks to Jetty, being the great supervisor that she is.👍💕💞🐾
I noticed too, that the one Jetty girl was doing her due diligence; inspecting for quality. She's such a good dog.
Jetty is the real captain!
Love that new design on your tower. Nice job!!
Thanks James!!
Fantastic job, you guys know your way around a boat that's for sure!
Another big job well done! Great music and narratives.
Hey Billy, Just a tapping tip,,,,,,we use "cool tool " oil at the shop when running a tap into material ,,,,
In a pinch motor oil is better than using a dry tap ,,,,,
Looks good !!!
Awesome great to know! Will look that up!
Nice. That little dude is crushing it!
Great work! Looks awesome!
Not only that but for what you two paid for the boat, every Time you do a project like this.. you are adding a ALOT of equity!
Your boat will be worth so much more than you paid for it.. Excellent decision to go used and fix up! Enjoy life!
We hope so!! Thanks so much Chad!
Glad you are featuring Rob. It's great you have a good helper like him. Remember our motto... "Let's get kids hooked on fishing...NOT on drugs!" Very nice job. It came out great. Excellent video.
Looks beautiful.
Good job!
Thanks David!!
Great job! The finish came out beautiful. I admire on how detail oriented you are right down to the screws.
Thanks so much Thomas! Sometimes its hard to stay on top of the details especially when we just want to job to be finished but we do our best!
There is nothing like updating your boat with new paint job and repairs that are vary well needed, you did yourself well.
It feel so good! Thanks for watching!
Tank you vidéo magnifique bravo super
Great job ...really looks nice and clean.
Thanks so much! She deserves it ;P
Great Video.. Glad to see you all still have the Whaler.

The young fella is going somewhere..hat's off...
Looks mint guys!!!👍
AHHH i need a pic of the tower installed !!!!
Another job well done!
Thanks so much William!
Nice job. Looks great.
Thanks Jeffrey!
Seems to be a great deal of consern with the solar panel install. There are many ways to skin a cat, in the end you have a skinned cat. I didn't see the wall thickness on the tubing, but judgeing by the peices you removed it is probably 1/4" at least. The panel rests on the tower. It doesn't hang under or use the bolts for support. They just keep the panel from blowing or sliding off. Fifty years of experience in marine maintainance and 40 years as a machinist says your instalation is adiquate. Would I have done it that way? No. I prefer skinning that cat another way. I avoid holes in aluminum when ever possible. When at the welder I would have had pads welded on. In my experience, silicon sealer is the product that will protect against galvinic reaction between stainless and aluminum the longest. Great videos, you two. See you in the next one.
Love this comment! haha thanks for the reassurance of our way of skinning this cat and also the advice to take into consideration for next time!
Wonderful young man! Oh two helpers!
You do alot of your own work billy. You should look into a set of ratchet wrenches. I use them all the time on cars can save alot of time and are very handy
good job guys I see you had some good help to that's great
Arch turned out great, nice work guys.
Love the Conch! Good job Billy, oh and on the arch too!
Great job! Looks fantastic!
Thanks so much!!
Looks awesome.
thanks Dave!!
Your parents must be very proud of both of you. Keep up the great videos.
Excellent!
Wow! I'm always amazed at your talent!!!
You guys are the best! watched every episode. keep up the great work
Thanks so much for following along!
Great job you guys! The arch and solar panel looks fantastic!!! You should get the second one. You can never have to much power.
Good job! I love watching y’all work and improving.
Nice work.
Really nice job!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your life. Smooth sailing.
Nice job, good to see the Whaler getting some love too.
Billy , it seems your dad is a big Whaler fan, I noticed the Montauk used transport the arch.
Thanks for taking us along.
He is a BIG Whaler fan haha
Thanks for watching Robert!
You Guys do Nice Work
Looks great the only thing I can add is that you should counter sink your holes even though you are mounting a flat plate, This gives more area for the butyl tape to fill in and seal. Also I would have used Tefgel on the stainless bolts you used to mount the solar panels.
Thanks for the advice Steve! The bolts that mount the frame to the boat actually are countersunk.
Well done project.
Thank you!
Great job! You guys don't mess around.
Oh yes they do!
Your music selection for this video was OFF THE CHARTS Billy!
i really liked the music in this one. I had to listen to the last minute about a dozen times. Also, the arch looks excellent.
We have been getting our music from Epidemic Sound they have really great stuff!
Thanks for watching :)
Great work, nice to see quality work and products.
Thanks so much Tim!
Wow you two! That really turned out nice. Great job, great channel. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching :)
Very good.
I agree that you should think about making the hold down screws straight thru for more strength holding down your solar panel.
G'day Bill, & Sierra! Great job, guys! Giving your boat that Tender Loving Care that it deserves. (the reconstruction, and refurbishment of your aluminum solar/radar arch) This was some, very good TLC!! Thank you! Cheers! 😋⛵️💕✌🏼
G'day to you too!
Thanks so much for watching :)
@@Tulasendlesssummer Your welcome Bill, & Sierra! It's very much appreciated. Thank you, too! I'm enjoying your boats wonderful TLC! ✌🏼❤️😊
Excellent job you two on the radar/ dingy arch , looks brand new from the factory 👍👍👌👌⛵️⛵️⚓️🐕🐕you guys are doing such a great job restoring this cat, love the new cushions in the salon as well!!
Thanks Dave it was much needed!
So glad to check stuff off our list!
Another amazing job, you guys always amaze me with what you can do
Thanks so much!
Nice Montauk!
It's actually older than the Montauk. It's a Nauset from 1967
Once again you guys did a great great great great job.
Nice clean work you two! That was a major mission! It looks so good....excited to see how the rain catchment system works as well:)
Excellent video I enjoyed seeing these as I know what it takes to work on boats. It's a labor of love.
Fair Winds and following Seas.......
Anchors Aweigh
Looks great and very functional! Great content keep it up.
She sure is really looking more purty every week. You guys do good work.
Thanks Paul!
you have given your boat a birthday showing it some love
Rob was doing a great job.
Thank u for sharing
Thanks for watching Frank!
Beautiful job everyone!
Thanks so much Michael :)
@@Tulasendlesssummer Hope to start funneling some financial support to you two. I love your videos and brief moments in what you two do, experience and see. You both have incredibly pleasant personas. Thank you both (And Jetty too!)
great job... ,looks good, thanks !!!
Cool, you're doing a great job!
Excellent job!
Nice!
Great teamwork usual!
Work work work. Then the fun begins. Fair winds
Very cool. if anything does loosen then it will still be easy to repair!
I wish u guys had a reality show I also wish I had the connections to make it possible because it would do great and would like to see more.
This is our reality show ;P
Great Job.... Nice Work!
Your dad's house is so cute! This is NY? Great job on all the building/painting. I'm impressed with the young man helping you. I like that you're taking us along even though you're not on the water. You're such great personalities. It's fun to see what you're up to. Normally, when you're not gutting the boat, when you're home, do you stay at your parents and which ones, or stay on the boat?💕
perfect!
Thanks!
good job,,, long overdue, but did it properly in the end.
That sure looked like a lot of hard work but dang that looks good! Nice solar panel on top too. Safe travels you guys.
Thanks for following along!
Very nice work ! Maybe consider bonding the arch to grounding system?
Nice job!! Looks like Dad has a nice place right on the water. Will the stainless bolts screwed right into the aluminum cause electrolysis??
Love ur channel jeep up da great work i love it because i love boats
Nice job - Just one thing I would have done differently was to drill straight through the tubing for the solar panel. I wouldn't trust the few threads to hold up with the pounding its going to take. Keep that in mind later on maybe just do 1 on each bracket for safety.
Being a machinist by trade for over 27 years I have to fully agree with Demo Joe on this one. The amount of full thread contact may be only 1 to 1 1/2 threads in the pipe. This is certainly not enough contact to keep the bolts tight. If you happen to over torque the bolts putting them in you may have even stripped the threads in the pipe and not really know that you have. I agree that you should drill at least one hole on each pad and bolt them through the pipe with a self locking nut along with a locking lock washer to ensure that the nuts don't back off especially with all the rocking and rolling that goes on while you are sailing. Better to be safe rather them sorry. I usually don't comment to much but just thought I would add my two cents worth. Love you content in the videos and have to say that your drone shots are second to none here in RUclips land. Looking forward to your next one. Tom.Nova Scotia Canada
The same comment I was going to post here.
Demo Joe is spot on. Given the pounding at sea, those tapped holes won’t hold over time, at least two of those four hole sets should be through holes. Great work on the tower restoration!
Well with respect I disagree, this should be fine. I've been doing the same for years. The alternative is to use a pop rivet but that makes removal more complicated. The extra holes from thru bolting would weaken the tube and if they can get way without this then do much the better. If they do come loose thru bolting is still an option. Remember KISS is good for less wt. every bit counts. Corrosion with the SS/Alum is my biggest concern that will cause paint peeling. Cheers Warren
@@CheersWarren Pop rivets loosen and eventually come loose and rip out. I wouldn't trust a pop rivet. It's just my opinion.
I see Jetty is a great supervisor. We have three dogs and one of them (Boo) is always the supervisor watching closely everything that is done/
Nice job guys! That looks like a nice paint system that awlgrip products offers.
How does the weight compare to the previous setup?
I missed you guys this summer but it looks like you are putting the income from those summer jobs to great use. You've made some really nice improvements already this off season.
Can't wait to see those solar panels soaking up rays in some new destinations this winter.
great job
Hey... I know that solar panel... The tower looks great.. Hope everything works out well. If you want that second one, let me know.
they should take it
Thanks so much Jason! It has been working great!
Why didn’t you use two of the panels?
FYI use Tef-gel on bolts when going into aluminum and use neoprene washers in between stainless and aluminum
Thanks for the tip Michael!
Nice improvement. Looks great. Do use a respirator with organic vapor cartridge when painting with 2 part urethane paints like Awl-Grip. That stuff is NOT good for your lungs.
You do a ton of priming and painting. Wondered why you don't spray some of this.
Hi there is a product called tuff gel,it seals the threads .to stop corrosion on dissimilar metals good stuff.
We will definitely get some!
New music ensemble . Costing you big bucks😁
Gahhh finally! That arch drove me nuts! I was always saying how you're making this boat amazing and the arch looked terrible!
hahah it was on the list the entire time just pretty far down. We finally checked enough things off to get to it ;P
I kept looking at that solar arch thinking. Why don't they restore that solar arch. And now you are .. awesome
I think a lot of people were thinking that :P haha
You definitely don't spare the elbow grease and sweat equity! Y'all have worked hard to make this boat all she is. Well done!
Young man seems like a good lad.
