My ex-husband’s family immigrated from Belarus to Canada, just before WWII.
So my ex is the first generation, born in Canada in his family.
He referred to the place his family had roots as ‘White Russia’.
I have longed to spend time in Belarus and am learning about it as quickly as I can.

I would pay billions to spend the rest of my life in a small, calm and beautiful village as this one. Unfortunately; urbanism is getting bigger and bigger and living in such places bbecome hard ecnomically :(

I love Russian people
They would be reacher if the reunited with Russia. They are almost the same culture. It's a pity the youngest think they don't have any connection with the mother land Russia. Borders (artificial ones) only separated people. Belarus-Russia could be a confederation.
@Keys & Locks The wealth is mostly in Russia. I don't think Crimea is worse now than with Ukraine, for example. Just the opposite despite the sanctions.
@Keys & Locks I don't think Russians would ignored Belarusians in case they reunited. They are strategically important and historically they are a brother country.

Health care , Education , Basic facilities are not available in villages and life is stagnant , Very stagnant , that's why people move to big cities where there they have Education , medical facilities , libraries but city life takes your all hours , peace to get these facilities....most people get money by hard work in big cities and all their money goes to rent houses , tax , children's education...

First of all understand yourself what kind of person you are, then live in village or city.....i see people in village dream about living in bog cities and people in big cities dream about living in villages where they imagine life is peaceful ( Both create fantasy to get rid of life's problems ).....i lived in big city and village also....have experienced both ( Punjab )
@mini polis i am not taking it personally , yes you are right Punjab and Belarus can't be compared because village of Punjab are connected with cities and Punjab is agriculture based economy in which most of the families have their own productive land.....
Related to rural life - I live in a village (600 ppl) with school, doctor, pharmacy, two supermarkets,two small stores, bakery, 3 cafes, two friseuers.... ER and police are 10 mins away. My son is 20 mins with bus away from his music highschool and 25 from his regular highschool. I have everything what people in cities have. Even more. In summer every night I sit outside,drink wine and listen to crickets chirping, birds singing in the morning, last few days I watched Saturn on telescope with my son, which I could not do in city due to light pollution. Every now and then deers come in our backyard, especcially now, to eat apples. I would never live in any city. Difference between my and that Belarus village is that we all have a job. People lived in USSR, had nothing, didnt knew for anything better and they were happy. Now they arent. I travelled a lot, newer to Punjab, but I visited New Delhi and I really dont know who the fuck would want to live there. That city is the the most polluted city I have ever seen, trash and shit are everywhere. Not to mention that people there see us europeans as walking wallets. Russians on the other hand are fantastic people, they often offered me with food and votka, me, complete stranger just passing by. As mini polis mentioned, I dont think that Belarus and India can be compared.

@mini polis i think health care , Education facilities should be in villages .....i know little bit about USSR economy and politics but common people who lived under that era know much better and have direct experience ,like you said that USSR was labour based but Indian villages are agriculture based , nearly half of the Indian population earn their livelihood from agriculture and husbandry.....

We all should go visit and spend time with these good people not only us but we should take our children with us . To see the reality of life and appreciation for what we take for granted. I think it will be fun to spend money on them instead on our self .

My husband has been asked to go to The offices in Germany, he has been offered more money, but he is trying anything not to go there (he only goes once every couple of months, but they want him to stay there). As you can see our perception of the other countries is different... I don’t know if I would live in Eastern Europe, but definitely I would love to visit. It has its own genuine spirit, maybe sth Europe is now lacking? My mum was in love with Russia and its literature, my sis has a Russian name...

Great insight into life a world away. I visited Belarus last year - I found it both surreal and refreshing. However it also has the same tragic melancholic feeling I get from other communist or post communist countries - a feeling of having missed out on something - like the world has passed them by. I would definitely recommend visiting Belarus to open minded travellers.

@@cacampbell3654 well I have been to Cuba and if you have the opinion that life is all Salsa dancing and sunny beaches and smiling people you have been misled. A fully trained doctor in Cuba is paid $25 usd a month when I visited. The place is crippled by US sanctions - the longest running trade embargo in history. A corner store will be selling only seven or so basic products. They are working farmland with oxen because they don't have the fuel and machinery available. I suggest you watch popular RUclipsr Bald and Bankrupt's videos on Cuba - he is great at talking to locals and getting their perspective.

I am 60y.o. I am retired, I live in a very large city in south Europe and I also stay always alone and bored at home all the time. They are lucky they have some fields and live in the peaceful countryside. I would like to live in the countryside, too, have some chickens, plant some vegetables and so on. But I must to live in a noisy and polluted city and into an apartment without a garden. So, which one among us lives a better life?
Then you should save some cash and move over here to enjoy gardening. It's $10k+ matter.

Just look at those eyes.... They speak universal language.... Language of emotions... I stopped looking at subtitles at one point...U can understand all the eyes we're telling the reality except this young lady .... in whose eyes one can see hope and dreams..... This is not one remote village story..... It is happening everywhere
