Jamie's "the sauce is the best thing on the place" juxtaposed with the huttlestorm involved in making it is pure comedy xD
Yes! I've learned to take notes when I'm splodging things in--because that happens! 😅 You accidentally make something amazing, you want to be able to duplicate it 😊
How Mike salvaged that sauce from being a gloopy thick red substance that tasted like gravy granules to become a smooth, runny, layered and perfectly balanced sauce that was the plates best component was an absolute miracle 😂😂
Ohh, how I wish there was footage of Ben getting to see Mike's red wine, butter, gravy, orange, maple Huttlestorm for the first time!
I would love that too!
I love how much berry was helping mike in this episode lol 😂 ❤
That's because mike was having a full on break down xDDD Incredible his dish didn't taste crap lol
@@deathragh1 he just had a kid. makes sense lol
Same!! Was very sweet aha
@@vimalvinod1832 depends on when this was filmed. Could have been months ago.
@@vimalvinod1832 ahhhhh yea fair that makes a lot of sense lol, he seemed more manic than usual
“I’ve got to remember who I’m cooking for.”
Ben both being bitter about his loss and adjusting accordingly is 💯
Hate the spoiler
Then dont read the comments before watching a video? What do you think the comments will talk about football?
its funny, I saw him use a bergamot and immediately knew it would be bitter af. Knew Ben went too far you really have to experiment with that thing to get it right, the fact people didn't get stomach issues after should make him feel good lol
He's cooking for Jamie and still making a salad. That's the weird part for me 🤣
@@timm4008 Well, the spoiler was in the video..... but you can't really judge them can you.... or he thought your comment was a spoiler (it wasn't) in which case you are right.... don't read comments before watching a video.
I've never seen Mike panic so much for Jamie to love the sauce he frankensteined.
So happy to see Barry hosting and not causing chaos and leaving hobs on.
He's safe on the sidelines.
But we love his chaos. Now it's his turn for Chef vs normal hopefully
Not gonna lie, I think the part I enjoyed most about this episode was watching Mike improvise by gradually piecing familiar flavours together to something unfamiliar and new to figure out whether it'd potentially work or not. It's still based on fundamental knowledge, but has that intriguing part of the unknown that makes you wonder whether the theory follows with the practice.
In a sometimes gloomy world, the Sorted boys can also make me smile! Thank you lads! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE BAZ ON THE SIDE IN THIS ONE..REALLY HELPFUL.. GREAT JOB GUYS.
Really impressed by Mike's approach to trying to do something different -- and trusting what he's learned
I just.... I just love this channel. It really makes me smile. Even on my really low days, I can come here for a bit of cheer, laughter and escapism. This channel has been a sort of free therapy for me, and I'm grateful 👌🏾x. Ps(, Ben's dish looked yummy)
I completely agree with you; Sorted always manages to bring a smile to my face no matter what kind of day I've been having, and no matter what kind of video they put out! From their travel series to their battles, everything is so well-made, funny, and helpful, and I've utilized a lot of what they've taught me in my own cooking.
wish there was more battles like this. would love to come there from sweden and be in the kitchen. looks dope
Not seen a Gurnard for a long time. Used to catch them off Chesil beach when I was a teenager.
They're super tasty huh?
@@SortedFood They're pretty good. Always preferred Bream personally though.
Actually can’t deal with Mike biting the cauliflower and putting it back in the pan 😭
Ben trying not to call the people he feds plebs lol
Rewatching this again and I am familiar with apple and tomato together. I make a cabbage roll soup that uses tomato, apple cider vinegar and it calls for slices of apple. But I normally leave that out because we don't keep apples around. The soup is very good with those flavors without a doubt.
I literally had a salad last night with tomato and apple together with a sun dried tomato dressing. It’s odd in theory but was pretty tasty in practice, it was a fridge clearing salad so there were a few odd things😅
Mike’s sauce was, um, a confusion of flavours. I’m glad it was edible! Well done Ben - nice and cheffy.
I absolutely want to see the crew eating Calçots the "proper" way.
I wanted to see ben’s reaction to the wine gravy. Lol
I’d make tomato seafood soup with leeks and potato. I’ll pair it with some cauliflower fritters with pomegranate vinaigrette dip. The pheasant will be grilled and top the cauliflower fritters.
You know joking about Jamie, new Mystery challenge you could do, Guess the Jamie dish. Jamie and another Normal cook a mystery dish and the judge has to guess the one made by Jamie.
I’m gonna renew my call for a mystery box for Ben chosen and judged by everyone’s kids but he is told it’s the normals…also chef v chef v chef
Get Jamie those color blind glasses to wear in an episode! We eat with our eyes also it would be dope to see
love the videos guys! whens the next adventure?
oh and also, has Mike lost his mind? lol
Pretty sure I';d eat and enjoy either of those dishes. Solid ingredients and assembly although the jus was iffy at best.
I cracked up at the helpful advice, "It looks more cheffy".
Mike really brought it, Huttlestorm aside, that dish looked really cheffy and i'm jealous I couldn't try the red wine jus
Pheasant cooked by a peasant 🤣🤣🤣
Love the assists by my boy barry!
You can actually make flat breads with just flour and yogurt and a bit of salt the lacto fermentation in the yogurt gives rise on its own.
I was so much hoping at least one used the fish and the measles to do an Italian fish soup (gallinella + cozze + pomodoro/funghi + cipolloto/aglio) would have been such a flavor bomb
Hopefully while you were in Savannah, you were able to enjoy Vidalia onions which are known for their sweetness.
The tie breaker needs to be someone who they dont know the pallet of so they cant cook specifically towards their interests. either a new person to the show, or keep the judge a secret until the end. idk i just really want to know what they would have done with that seafood
Whouv. In 25 minutes he produces a new great tasting dish and even made flatbread. Awesome
You should have had the food team judge this one like the last one
Huttlestorm is an understatement
Calcot onions... the Great Big Story channel is back, and their second (new) video was just posted a few hours ago... in fact, according to my notifications, an hour before this video posted... and GUESS what it was about.
I would have sous vide'd that pheasant, it's a great way to prepare mystery meats (if you have time).
There should be a tie breaker! 3 normals vs The whole chef team! Independent judges!! 🎉🎉 I reckon it will be interesting and entertaining 😅
Congratulations Mike
So paused it before Jamie looked at it, and gotta say, Mike's looks more Chefy to me and better, but will see where Jamie goes with the actual taste.
But well done Mike.
i feel at this point calling the 'normals' 'normal home cook' is totally a misnomer intended for marketing
You've been doing this for 13 years. STOP SAYING NAAN BREAD! 🤣
Ben made food for the customer and Mike was just trying to imitate Ben
Where is Kush? The people demand Kush!
I more prefer the review episodes, these mystery ones arnt my fav, but anything is better than nothing!
Me being in Ireland while it's calçot season back home in Catalonia and seeing you use them makes me have even more FOMO because of all the calçotades (the event where you eat calçots in a traditional way) my friend and family are having rn
Ben is fuming that he lost to Jamie need a rematch
I think they shouldn't know who the judge is, playing to the person will just make every meal feel same-y every time its that persons time to judge. Jamie gets all the meat and sandwiches while Barry gets fancy plating and ingredients etc
Would love to see an episode when Kush would plate/replate both (even off-screen) so whoever judges has no clue ...
Man I wanted to hear Bens thoughts on Mikes sauce 😂
wtf, I wanted to see Ben try Mike's sauce
Pheasant can be very gamey however such a delicacies i like to cook down with red wine ..mmm so delicious no matter..still made nice and proper..much love..one love..respect.never found anything other than red wine that pairs well with pheasant
In US ive noticed that the north and south Dakota statehoods have the best tasting ways of cooking the pheasant amongst other foul perhaps because they have a nice population of them.
I want to taste Mikes Anxiety sauce
Surprisingly similar looking results. Where can you actually buy pidgeon though?
ahhh the old "Pomegranate Double Bluff"
i love mike lmaooo
Mike is awful at cooking it’s incredibly entertaining to watch tho 😂
aww I miss the bloopers
I’m loving the fact that the chef gets less time then the normal. Leaves Mike some time for a Huttlestorm and to deal with the aftermath.
Exactly 😂
A huttlestorm🤣 perfect
@Sorted Food I'd also say to give the normal some notice of what's in the box, so they can plan ahead.
@@puffinbasher like 30 min plan time but same cooking time
A great chef can keep things 'relatively' simple but do them far better than us normals could, a normal trying hard will see that extra time as an opportunity to try to be creative. The extra time is an illusion, elevating a dish to another level while being quick/efficient/whatever is what a restaurant needs to survive first, then thrive, unless they are aiming for a L'Enclume-type experience but that is fairly niche. An amateur thinks in terms of ingredient over time expediture, a professional thinks in terms of time over ingredient expenditure, getting the most out of simple concepts is the bulk of the restaurant business and gets people to eat dishes out (and pay a premium for) that they could make at home.
It's official, they finally broke Mike's little mind in this episode.
Poor Mike 😂
“pheasant by a peasant” is my favorite Mike line ever
I was going to ask if Mike was okay. He seemed a bit... Manic in this one.
@@angelousmortis8041 apparently he's got a lil baby at home. so this might've been filmed while his wife was heavily pregnant
I was literally crying when Mike was grabbing things at random and chucking them in the sauce, how it ended up being good was a miracle 🤣🤣
That's why they are no longer normals. Mike has enough sense of what works to take the sauce from bland to something tasty just by adding different ingredients. A true normal would end up with something awful.
I do the same thing. That is how I found out the one thing Fireball is good for is deglazing.
@@nanoflower1 on that note. Though I would argue they are still normals. I would like to see a future expansion through the addition of „newbies“ or similar (for good, a season or a subseries). Where then challenges like experienced normal vs newbie + chef can happen.
Sometimes grabbing random things works! I've made some really tasty BBQ sauce that way! I'm just mad I didn't write it down so I can recreate it.
i too have made some delicious stuff that way
An interesting video idea would be a chef vs. chef (Ben vs Kush) mystery box Battle, where the normals prepare challenging boxes. Maybe revisting failed pass it on combinations and see how the chefs work with them
I second this Idea. I was thinking the exact same thing.
I saw them tease this on Instagram, so likely coming soon
THIS!!!!!!
If ever i saw a good idea this would be it!
I think it would be interesting to have a chef vs chef battle with an assortment of random mystery box ingredients, but the caveat is that both chefs have to randomly choose a normal to partner up with from the spinning wheel! There could be challenges like swapping the person on the team in the kitchen after an amount of time or something else but would be entertaining seeing how the chefs collaborate with their normal
Ben "my only mistake here may have been cooking Jamie a salad"
Jamie during his challenge, "WILL IT SLAW"
Poor sweet Mike was so on edge that brought Baz on edge which brought me on edge, loved this one 😂
Also, Baz helping Mike just show us their friendship and camaraderie ♥
I haven't even seen who won yet, but I wanted to pop up and say I'm delighted to see Mike playing things by ear and just trying stuff. He's becoming very skilled and as he learns to trust his instincts, I expect him to make some truly brilliant meals.
"Pheasant, cooked by a peasant" made me laugh more than it had any right to! 😄
Ben’s dish looked unreal!!! I would inhale that delicious looking plate of food in about 3 minutes flat!!!
He'll be happy with this comment!
I am actually quite interested in a video where the leftover ingredients from these kind of challenges are being used to cook something.
Love to see that
I'm pretty sure they've done a leftover challenge before.
I think an interesting battle would be a long-lasting recipe battle - they get a lot of time to make things that last a long time in the fridge/freezer/pantry, then after a week or two of the ingredients being stored, they get 10 minutes to reheat and assemble.
Inspired by how the normals TOTALLY didn't cheat a little bit here to help out the Huttlestorm by prepping his oven and giving suggestions...
Have a Chef v Normal battle but the normals absolutely blatantly cheat to make a premium dish. I just wanna see Ben's face when they pull out a stag feast and Ben got chicken and dumplings 😆
Barry panicking at 13:06 over Mike adding so much mustard to the gravy was the best part of the video.
Cooking with ebbers, feels relaxing and chill then you get one hell of a adventure watching Mike in pure chaos 😂
Mike saying "oh no, I'm worried" about the same ingredients that made Ben go "oooh!" is perfect.
I would love to see a Bay Leaf Taste Test. Cook the same dishes with & without and see if Ben & the normals can even tell the difference! 😄
As a Filipino, I can confidently look at a random fish and go: eh 🤷🏽♀️
Because it can either be fried OR put back in some water and made into a soup
😂
We love to try one of your fish creations!
i do feel that the biggest advantage that chef Ben has in these challenges is composure, sure he has more skill but Mike is not a bad cook but he runs around the kitchen in a flurry of chaos.
but great video none the less :P :)
"Pheasant cooked by a peasant" golden 😂
The big question is just how large will the Huddlestorm be 😂
Only time will tell......
Baz always does such a good job hosting these kind of episodes 👏
yess thats what i thought
need me a dedicated bay leaf episode!!!
This has got to happen!
That was a great episode!
That being said, things I miss:
- Bloopers
- James
- "It's gooey in the middle..."
Barry's facial expressions when Mike is Huttlestorming the sauce ingredients "Tomato apple pie?! What?" 😅🤣
I'd love to see a Hero Ingredient: Beans; Pass it Along or a Food Battle!
It's such a diverse, cheap and healthy food that deserves some extra love!
i love seeing barry rooting for mike from the sidelines!! normal solidarity haha
I encourage you to look up the traditional Catalonian meal Calcot - a spring feast centered around those green onions charred and cooked in a wood fire. It's a fantastic regional meal not a lot of people have heard of!
I don't know what Baz's mystery box dish will end up looking like, but I feel like it has to include eggs in the box. Within all of the panic, you know he's going to make something fun with them!
I am way too invested in the competition lol Tell me why I AUDIBLY gasped when Mike's pheasant wasn't done in the middle? Love these challenges, boys!
Mike still did a much better job than I would do if you threw a box of ingredients at me. Well done, Mike!
These episodes are always good fun.
Side Effects of the Huttlestorm include:
Delirium - Exhibit A: “Tomato pie but I’m not making a pie.”
Didn’t Jamie get 45 minutes? Why is Mike only getting 35?
Seeing this video I would love to see the boys compete for a "Butcher's Badge", identifying different raw meats and maybe breaking down a big slap of meat into different cuts. It could be followed by a blind taste test to see if they can identify the meats by taste and texture alone.
As always I love the content and can't wait to see what the team does next
Mike making the sauce is me when I tell my husband I'm going to "experiment" for dinner because none of the ingredients we have make sense.
These are great, because Mike really encapsulates what it feels like to be a home cook. The chaos, undercooked meat, making split second decision on whether to commit to an idea, throwing everything into a pot trying to balance the right flavours. And it also shows the gap in skill and knowledge that chefs have from us regular home cooks.
I might be a little late to the party but... Where's Jamie?? Oh wait.. there he is in his Sandman Logan's Run Jumper!!
You guys should have a bistro that's open 1 day a week (don't wanna lose the youtube vids), 2 menus per day, 1 vegan and 1 "normal", and new menus every day.
Then we get to actually experience and taste your skill. I genuinely think it's a good idea, and I would definitely come by if I ever visit Britain!
When is hunting season for pheasant in England?
Usually over winter, 1st Oct to 1st Feb.
It's been a while since we've had a classic Huttlestorm. Both dishes look awesome. I think Ben's was better but given that Mike didn't have a clue where the dish was going until it arrived it was an excellent effort. I'm a little bit in awe iof Mike's "MacGuyvered" Jus.
