Dive in to my main theme for the new fantasy podcast series "Tales of the Echowood," currently being crowd-funded on Kickstarter at echowoodpod.com.
I'll take you through my process as I wrote this theme. Here's the breakdown if you don't have 30 mins to watch me ramble on:
03:38 - GET INTO IT with v1 baby
14:23 - v2, the middle child, but still important
19:12 - v3, baby goes to college and gets a big boy job as a sick new podcast theme

29:00 is how I work on all my compositions and mixes. I thought I was weird, but when I see brilliant people, like yourself, also need time and space to work... I feel better about where I am musically.

I might make a video about my favorite libraries, that could be a little shorter and maybe more helpful. The truth is, I never use the same library for everything. I have some I like for string legato, others for staccato, some for brass horns, others for trumpet, etc. It's a big Mish mash of lots of different things I've collected over the years and changes from project to project. Would a kind of general overview or just a video on a few of my favorites be helpful?
Also, for mixing, I use a lot of cubase stock plugins and soundtoys for the more stylized stuff.

I like Your work. I am self teaching myself the craft. I have only one question. In what order and what would somebody learn - .I.e learning music theory then orchestration etc. - in order to have a pathway to be able to create music this beautiful?
Thank you! And that's awesome that you're teaching yourself.
I don't think there's any one true path, and I think most people stumble into it from whatever first sparks their interest and passion. So, I think the best way through is just to find the thing (whether that be theory, orchestration, production, etc) that most excites you and dive headlong into that. You need something that will carry you through the grueling task of trial and error. Everything else sort of comes with time. Just a series of problems that you learn to find solutions for.
And the one other good place to start and keep returning to is to LISTEN to music. Listen a ton and learn that way. Hope that's helpful!

Thanks so much! This track was mostly, performance samples Vista strings, cinematic studio strings, some pianobook stuff, east west strings and harp, dark Era drones, keep forest dragon piano/synths/fx, soundiron choirs, East West/soundiron/spitfire percussion, then stuff I recorded live. I think I got mostly everything...

Sounds really amazing. Is there anyway possible that we could get a copy of your sample instrument with the vocal phrases...? Would be totally awesome...
Thank you! I wrote and recorded them myself with a session singer and then built a sample library out of it
Once this project is done, I may package them up! Want to hold onto them for a little bit to get some good use out of them, but if I ever release them, I'll be sure to let my RUclips folks know!

Thank you! Kind of hard with the phrase libraries because they're specific melodies and stuff I've written for specific things, but maybe I could come up with a way to break it up a bit and package it as a less specific library. I'll think about it!
@@jessehaugen Cool... heard a lot of choral stuff and yours sounds incredible and might be something I could aee myself using... not as impressed with some of the other stuff.
