Glad you found something to do with that area! When I was in the business I installed turf plenty of times (even though I hated it… especially around pools. For anyone curious the infill gets everywhere and the turf is HOT in the summer.) we never did any turf putting greens, but my tips should still apply 1. Get a few hundred razor blades. Stuff dulls quick and you’ll love the cut with a fresh one. 2. Don’t buy a smaller piece and seem it in. Seems suck. (For anyone that has a problem with there’s get a $10-15 Men’s hair clipper set. Works great on trying to blend if turf is off angle at seem. 3. Along with that. Don’t skimp out on quality. The good turf is pricey. You get what you pay for. 4. As Pete would say “get your dirt right”. In this case get that base right. Not sure what NC is like or if putting green turf prep is different than regular turf. But treat it like a patio. Excavate till clay, fabric, tamp and grade with your base (I used 11’s) then add in quarter minus for perfection and compact. The quarter minus will harden up once the wet weather comes. Really need to compact this well. Excited to see the result! And happy to see you and Jax enjoying the golfing channel.
Hey Pete, you know who you remind me of? Splitting image, is Dan Campbell head coach of the Detroit Lions. Look him up he's taller, but u both look alike, have similar muscular build, same goat tee, eyes same lol. Every time I see him I'm like that's Pete! 😊
I'm finishing up my own putting green project (similar to the size you're looking to do). I'm using it a ton already. I think you and your family will love it. Looking forward to watching the project!
Sounds like an interesting and a fun idea for you and your family to spend time together. One thought for you. You might want to consider putting some lights on your house illuminating your putting green for some evening putting fun too. ⛳️
I had the same idea, Pete. I get so engulfed in my lawn and landscape business that i hardly ever get to golf anymore. Im teaching my 12 yr old son how to play, and he loves it. This will give me the excuse i need to get back to playing again, plus spending time with him is priceless. I cant wait to see how it turns out. Where did you find a place to go learn how to install artificial turf?
Do it. I’d just enjoy seeing the build process. Obviously I have not experience with golf or synthetic greens but if it’s that shady will the synthetic grass dry out after rain/snow? Will it mold/rot? I don’t know just throwing it out there. Looking forward to seeing the transformation.
@ of course there’s some details to work out like cost… there’s so much natural slope back there and I’m too busy to maintain a natural putting green… but the space is there for sure
@GCITurf I told my wife that it was you. I said, "That's Pete, I can tell by his voice". She's like, are you positive? I'll bet you you $100 it is. So she says, write him & see. 🤣🤣

Thank you very much for this information. I read this twice and agree with every recommendation. Thanks!
@ No problem, Pete. Reach out if you have any questions!
Man! I am green with envy! That would be fabulous to have somewhere close to the house to chip and putt...can;t wait to watch this project

I've been looking at building a micro green with a pond. I'm excited to see you do this and would love to see you add a water feature.
I can guarantee there’ll be no water. Sorry
Go for it! I don’t have the land for it, but I’ll live that dream through you lol
How will you re-shape the downslope near the hvac units? Will there be a sharp drop-off from the hvac pads down to the putting green?
@@rc4728 not sure yet
Love the idea, I only wish I was there to help install. How much of a mess are the trees going to create for the green surface?
I have a blower 😎

Yes!!! Great idea! Thanks!
You can get led flag sticks and led cup inserts. We have them for our night-golf tourneys.
