@bobdole234bd, carrying more cordage or what? We’re just going over a sling mount hack here, not our personal bug out/ edc kits. If you’re saying to carry more cord on you to fix a possible failure in this sling hack, we would have to have a lot different discussion. Multiple types of cordage in a pack is generally understood by anyone not a total newbie. I like this guys hack here, more resilient cordage and better ways to address the shortcomings of paracord are worth some consideration but I find little to dislike about this hack.
Been doing this forever. If you need "quick detach," just stick a plastic snap hook on the end so you can clip in and out of the paracord. Sometimes you gotta step away from the gear market and ask whether the fancy stuff is actually solving a problem.
Bro. Thank you. I’m 45, and got into things in 2004, “Benning”. Really great to see someone teaching tradecraft now. I was able to see the transition of LBV to MOLLE, deploying with them and evolving my own gear thru Sniper Phase 1 and Pathfinder before it was phased out. At the end of my 11 years, my was at Pathfinder where a squad of returning Rangers that jumped into Iraq when that jumped off were going thru with me. When we did some field problems, you could hear them a mile away, to the point where the older guys like myself could just use that against them. At the end, I asked them if they were ever called out for their “noise discipline”. I didn’t really need that in Iraq in 2005, as I was PSD and “other” missions put me in a more contractor like position. In Afghanistan’s in 2010, I very much used tradecraft in every facet of my gear, modular or otherwise. Towards the end, everyone coming thru seemed to have one of two issues in the decision tree- 1. Lack of tradecraft from emphasis on how, why, and the discipline of such and 2. Lack of knowledge and complete ignorance. I’m sure it’s a combination of both, as well as basic soldiering and “constant fear improvement, refinement of gear, and self-repair for basic serviceable and inspection standards”. This wasn’t just from NG or RA, I saw it from elite units, NOT SF OR CAG, but everything down from that, excluding snipers from Ranger Bat. Long-winded, I’m sorry, I’m a writer that is passionate about these skills and sad to see it being lost to young guys, as they are in a “kids having kids” scenario and the ones with the experience move up or out. Keep on keepin on. I’m nobody special. Much love. Have a good one.

I was looking for a way to sling up my shotgun last week. I used paracord and a old guitar strap and frankensteined a sling. Works great. Necessity is the mother of invention

We did something very similar late 80s early 90s when I was in Vicenza on our A2s. We would wrap the butt in hundred mph tape as well to keep 550 cord more secure. As long as it was returned to the arms room the way it should, it was all good. Great channel!
In ITB, we always received broken gear, including slings. my sling was attached to my M4 with a bootlace on the metal sling loop at the bottom of the stock, and my broken flak buckle was repaired with a zip tie I found on the ground. lol good times.
This is a great method. I attached the sling on my AR that I use for hunting with this method. The standard metal sling mounts ended up being too noisy in the woods.
