His lyrics give me chills. Watsky is so different from any other artist I’ve ever heard. His lyrics are so deep and also make you really think. I love it. He really needs more subscribers.
It's sad...but guns will never be gone. We need to adapt and change, but not change at the same time. Laws only apply to those who will follow them. Criminals rarely change. If you push laws then you basically disarm or hinder law abiding citizens from defending themselves in a "safe zone" and that is the zone that criminal usually target. We need to arm our whole society from 21 years old and up as long as they obtain training. If every 2 out of 8 to 10 people have a gun on the hip, then a criminal is less likely to target that area. Criminals get off on the idea that it takes a cop an average of 11 to 30 minutes to respond to a situation. We need to police our own blocks and be ready to stop a shooter. In the law, it is not a cops duty to save you. He can run and not get in trouble. We must save ourselves.
Is noone adresing the fact that watsky in the video is representing the media and how they cry and weep over the deaths but don't do anything about or to stop it from happeneing, ( eg why watsky isn't getting angry at the sheep and why he's still petting him at the end ) and so that's why the undead sheep kill both of them because both the killer and the media are wrong in this situation
even more so, the original murderous sheep, only got the idea from the book watsky was reading at the beginning. meaning it wouldn't have even come to this sheeps mind to do these heinous things, until he heard about it through the media.
Just imagine what the cops do! Cause here in Denver, they harm and arrest people for a welfare check and let violent criminals do whatever tf they want. So giving only those pigs guns is NOT the answer you think it is!
This is not what I imagined when I heard the song for the first time. EDIT: Obviously it's about gun violence, I just didn't expect so many sheep. Also, Watsky is here! Wohoo! Your an artist in an industry full of poop, my friend.
this song will always be relivent because the politicians and media need these shoootings to happen so they can get veiwers to there stations, and then the economists can hit those stunned viewers with there products that they are getting us to buy, its all about consumption of goods, when there is a tragedy everyone is watching the same channel which is a payday for pepsi and coke and applebees and geico and anyone who has a company that needs customers
My Video analysis(Its probably not worth anything but still) The song collectively tells a story about a school shooting from three perspectives: Shooter, Media, Politicians. But what if this kid in the video is the shooter in the song, and this dream is what drove him to the edge. You may ask, how could this make sense? Well what if the kid is Watsky, the red-eyed sheep are the kids that that called him a freak and a creep and the good sheep are his inner good thoughts. These bullies slowly killed everything good in him, all of the thoughts in himself that he liked were killed, that's why Watsky (the kid) cried after everyone of them died, because it was like another nerve struck by these bullies and cause him to get upset that they were basically killing him from the inside. In the end all of his thoughts come back a savage and violent thoughts (the zombie sheep) and in his head not only do the violent thoughts kill of the kids that bullied him like he wanted, it also killed him, sort of representing how he's officially no longer who he used to be. But hey that's just my take! Anybody have any ideas to contribute?
It's a good theory, but I believe the red eyed sheep is the shooter and watsky represents the society that will mourn the killing but won't stop the killer. He is, after all, dressed as a shepherd and is supposed to be protecting the sheep from harm, but isn't taking any measures to stop them from dying. The red eyed sheep got the idea from the book, like how shooters see the news and get the idea to continue the cycle. Then there's the fact that he continues to care for the red eyed sheep like how the news tries to humanize and create pity for the shooter (we see him even pet the sheep when they're at the other's graves)
for people wondering why the video is so goofy in nature in contrast to the song, thats the point. in the song you have this sweet bell driven instrumental that sounds happy and bouncy, and then you have these stark serious lyrics delivered in a cadence that almost makes light of the subject matter, through all three verses. the chorus especially has a feel of heavy contrast. they wanted to take a similar approach with the video, because it only made sense. you have this goofy puppet shawn the sheep/wallace and gromit-esque setting, but the content is comically violent. there is an actual article where watsky himself talks about this. (btw i love this video)
I wanna see the article pls. I love watsky and u relate to him a lot. It would be nice to see deeper into his mind. Can you comment a link or something please & thank u 🙏🏼
I feel like this is anti-media. As school shootings happen, many news outlets find some way to blame gaming, or tv. I think he's poking fun at that, as the sheep turns evil after seeing violence in a seemingly 'childrens' style book. He's making it seem ridiculous that media could have that strong of an effect on kids. At least that's my interpretation. Feel free to critique and everything, but that's what I'm pulling.
The first verse sets the scene, the second covers the media circus, the third is the political reaction. Yet none of it results in what it should; gun control. As for the video, I'm not sure if he's trying to say the glorification of violence can cause it, or as you say, poking fun at the notion. But the main theme I see is that as the shephard, he's responsible for protecting his flock, and despite grieving for the dead ones, he's still protecting the thing that's killing them.
I think that's only one section of the song. The song is directly critiquing the absurdity of Gun violence in America in general. Why else would there be a section to contact your politicians at the end? The media criticism is just one part, the whole song touches on different aspects of response after these incidents and how we are stuck in this do nothing about it attitude.
This song is probably the most powerful song I've ever heard in my life. The music video just is artistic genius not that I would know I'm no artist. Just Watsky this video though genius. Absolute genius. Clearly at a loss for words. Listen to this song since it's been out commenting now. Watsky we need more of you. We need more of your artistic genius in these dark times.
I love when a video is cryptic but still adds a layer of depth to a song. Great job dude. my respect for you as an artist has gone through the roof after your latest album.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs by Waksky . A topic that not many artist would pick , fantastic job of displaying the POV of the shooter who has been abused by his peers , the social media and how the exploit tragedies only to care about getting view , and the politician views of simply winning over the voters , not really grieving over such terrible events and not trying to do anything to actually prevent the problem from occurring again . So good and catchy , thanks Watsky 😄I definitely plan to talk to my representatives and senators about this topic more !
Love this Watsky is one of the few artist I've met that lived up to my expectations. He was so nice to my girlfriend and I and was really cool about our "fun fact" for cannonball 🥁
did you like...actually listen to the lyrics or are you just here for the Aesthetic bc,,,,,yeah that's literally exactly what this song is about. Perhaps better phrasing would be 'gun laws' or something but...yeah. The song is about guns. It's literally in the title.
Aurum Gloria Pictures it's not about gun safety, there's alot more to it than that if you listen to the lyrics. the first part is some kind of shooter (most likely a school shooter) blaming other people for what he's about to do. the second part is about media using these tragic events for their own gain and milking them constantly the last part is slightly harder for me to work out, but I'm pretty sure it's about politicians using these things for their own gain, but not changing anything and not blaming anyone for what happened, and pretending they care about their people.
Yeah. It's about gun laws. Ask Watsky yourself if you want. The entire point of the song is that America deals with these tragedies in a fucked up way, and that the gun safety laws there are shit. At the core, it is about guns. It's a beautiful, meaningful song, but it is also about guns.
Aurum Gloria Pictures yea, sorry if we misunderstood each other, i always realised it was about guns, it was just how you said gun safety, i thought you meant like handling guns and shit
I can't believe how many people don't understand how the video mixes with the lyrics. I got it right away, the comments amazed me. I guess alot of people are sheep still.
I know it doesn't really matter, but I noticed a visual mistake at 1:17-1:18. The right leg of the sheep on far left is cut in half and then it instantly appears when turning. The cut repeats itself few times when dancing :D
FunnyVideosShowPL nonono I didn't mean that. I couldn't find any visual mistakes until I saw your comment. So I thought you are great! Maybe you misunderstood me because My poor English skill.
Probably never... they are going in very different directions creatively. I'd like to see him work with Lil Dicky though, and with Anderson .Paak again.
Quite different careers and people but similar subject maters in songs though expressed differently since Bo is a comedian. Still would be nice to see as they are both great with metaphors and depth of music.
Im ashamed that some how i lost track of your music for so long. I just rediscovered a new favorite artist again in this album 5 years late to the party. This whole damn thing is beautiful and hitting hard for me this summer
3:13 really gets me. the government always has these performative, shallow condolences for the victims of shootings but still ultimately protects and perpetuates the shooters.
I love this song. I think it speaks to me a bit because being a teacher in a rather rough area we have to deal with gun violence pretty regularly. Not at school, but some students live in the thick of it. I still can't believe I was so lucky to be in New Orleans when you were there. Great show. Feels like a lifetime ago.
Damn it Watsky, you did it again. Exceeding my expectations a creating a video that is creative, illustrates a point while not being predictable. This video feels like something someone could write a respectable essay on, having multiple readings and understands. Welldone to you and your crew!
holy crap guys there were 7 sheep. there were 6 zombies and 1 zombie Watsky. where's the murder sheep? the child represents that he won't get his comeuppance. because in this society there's so much violence that the kid is a lost sheep he wanders from killing to killing and is the only one to survive. he killed his way through the zombies.....Watsky, if you're listening, now would be a perfect time for exquisite corpse.
Blanco I dont think so, the word "sheep" is used to describe people who don't think for themselves and just follow others at least thats what I got from it
Blanco in the first verse the shooter describes the students as a flock of sheep, meaning they follow without thinking for themselves, so I think It makes sense
Uncle Death well it's about a kid's understanding of all this stuff. when the kid is told that the world is violent and dangerous and they can't trust anyone, it gets internalized. so she dreams these violent and scary images, and is affected negatively in her day to day life (she can't sleep). her mind is inundated with stories of people committing horrific acts, and it ends up being all she can think about, even in her "happy place." i'd say this is much more respectful and powerful than making a video that directly correlates with the lyrics.
legit my favorite song, for the past 6 months (first time i heard it), been a fan since 2015 but only now heard this song, idk why but i guess the instrumental and the way you speak about such a important matter in that way you have got me in love with this song, tbh. Love from Brazil Watski
yes, he confirmed to me when I met him on tour that they are working on a music video for every single one of the songs, this one was actually completed a while ago but not put out with the original release of the song since they put it out before the album got announced the day after that horrible nightclub shooting.
my interpretation is that the bad sheep is obviously the shooter and watsky serves as the government, taking notice of what is going on but never actually doing anything to stop it. the zombie sheep later on i think represent the collective people after everyone has suffered from these tragedies whether it be directly or indirectly and finally doing something themselves rather than waiting on a passive government. at least that's my take on the video
First verse- school shooter Second verse- media using it for views Third verse- polititian using the tragedy for political gain, while simultaneously saying his opponent is doing the same for gun control, his stance is that "shit happens"
I don't know how long you wanted to response, sorry if I'm late. This is the push of the narrative from the school shooter, the media and how it portrays it, and then finally the political agenda of those who are affected by it.
I believe it's just a show of what our world is like. It's his statement on how fucked up the world we live in is. As it goes on it goes through the shooter and the news companies and how they just feed on the bad. A lot of rappers will tell a story that mirrors what life is like hoping the people that see this will change or see it as a lesson and basically dont be like the shooter news crew or the bystanders
I was expecting a much more impactful video for this track. Don't get me wrong this is a cool concept and came out well, just isn't the kind of video I was expecting.
Fadedragontear I was too, but im sure this video has some kind of meaning behind it. It's probably just a lot harder to look for considering the music video can be almost comedic in a way.
Well, a group of sheep, a shepherd who unintentionally created the psychotic sheep by reading them traumatic stories, then ignored the sheep that was still killing everyone else, even during the eulogy, necessitating the dead to literally come back from the grave to exerce revenge. It's pretty close.
TheSumoHamster the song isn't really about gun safety, it's more focusing on mass shootings and the way the shooter feels/views it, and how the media and politicians spin it to fit their agendas.
Marcus Quintilian, that is true, he does promote gun safety, but it's not what the song is about. Gun safety is a way to help prevent mass shootings. But it's not about gun safety. He can't really link to a "don't be a school shooter page"
yeah, I don't know about this one. Major Watsky fan here. I've seen him live three times in the past few years and consider him one of my all time favorite artists but honestly feel like he missed a big opportunity with this video. I'm going to go out on a limb here and call it like I see it; I think he's scared of this song in some type of way. He didn't play it on the x Infinity tour (at least at the show I saw). It also took him a great while to put this video out when we all know damn good and well it's possibly the best song on the album. I think he either feared one of his fans would become the first verse or was just simply not interested in entering the arena as a voice against gun violence but this song is fucking powerful. I feel like this could have been something people really gravitated towards. Just my two cents. like I said, major watsky fan. This was my favorite song off x Infinity though. Must have listened to it 49872387 times.
The shepherd planted the idea in the sheeps mind, he then denied that there was a problem with his beloved sheep until it destroyed him and the sheep both. imagine if the schools said "maybe putting poor angry children in a prison most of every day for most days of the year is a bad idea." or the news said "maybe giving this sicko coverage and putting his grand twisted piece of artwork in the faces of the masses is a bad idea" or politicians said "maybe using these tragedies to improve my career prospects instead of trying to figure out and fix them is a bad idea."
I remember on one of the first videos you put out for x Infinity someone was saying you wouldn't make a video for this song.. All I have to say is HA IN YOUR FACE INTERNET RANDO WATSKY ALWAYS DELIVERS
His lyrics give me chills. Watsky is so different from any other artist I’ve ever heard. His lyrics are so deep and also make you really think. I love it. He really needs more subscribers.
Seriously, his lyrics have depth to them and I love how they make you sit there and think for a minute
I think it’s because of his background in spoken word poetry. His letter to himself is EMOTIONAL!!
Listen to NF if you haven't already he's got some good story telling for sure😊
Another horrible shooting, another time I find myself returning to this song. Tragically timeless.
and again :(
It's sad...but guns will never be gone. We need to adapt and change, but not change at the same time. Laws only apply to those who will follow them. Criminals rarely change. Louis XVI of France why didn't he release a music video the first time?
if people can predict what the video will be in advance we've failed creatively
Chris Lenferna He releases the album, and then slowly pumps out videos. many artists do it
Yeah me neither.

was reminded of this song from the shooting in Texas, today.. 5 years later, and this song is still relevant as ever; nothing ever changes
this song will always be relivent because the politicians and media need these shoootings to happen so they can get veiwers to there stations, and then the economists can hit those stunned viewers with there products that they are getting us to buy, its all about consumption of goods, when there is a tragedy everyone is watching the same channel which is a payday for pepsi and coke and applebees and geico and anyone who has a company that needs customers
It's a song by nico Collins called nothing ever changes, listen to it
How can watsky blow my mind so many times? Amazing
Watsky is the single greatest poet and one of the best creative minds of our generation.
Well he did turn into a zombie. That can kind of represent how he is now. Great theory.
Now this is something I can get behind.
You should write more for us to read. Brilliant.
Damn man. I was going to make a comment on this vid talking about how it didn't seem to fit but your analysis makes a lot of sense
for people wondering why the video is so goofy in nature in contrast to the song, thats the point. in the song you have this sweet bell driven instrumental that sounds happy and bouncy, and then you have these stark serious lyrics delivered in a cadence that almost makes light of the subject matter, through all three verses. the chorus especially has a feel of heavy contrast. they wanted to take a similar approach with the video, because it only made sense. you have this goofy puppet shawn the sheep/wallace and gromit-esque setting, but the content is comically violent. there is an actual article where watsky himself talks about this. (btw i love this video)

I honestly took it the opposite way. That Watsky is pointing out the effect the media can have on people's psyches and perceptions.
The first verse sets the scene, the second covers the media circus, the third is the political reaction. Yet none of it results in what it should; gun control.
As for the video, I'm not sure if he's trying to say the glorification of violence can cause it, or as you say, poking fun at the notion. I really hate how often I’m having to share this song on my Facebook these days because of recent events. Thank you for your words, Watsky.

it wouldn't be right if he made a realistic video about it.
It makes perfect sense if you look beyond what your eyes see.
Dude this is art, you just have to look close
In my opinion this was the best song on the album. It stood for a lot and I'm glad he made it
still relevant, of course, yet again
Made me cry a lil man, thanks
I've just seen a sheep murdering all its friends. That should be enough internet for today.
how about a film, then: www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/
Marvin Moore Omg just stop 😂😂😂
Haha!
Ya kiddin' me? This is nothing! It's a weird-ass video, sure, but it's definitely not day ending. Must o' been new, huh?
Damn it Watsky, you did it again. Exceeding my expectations a creating a video that is creative, illustrates a point while not being predictable. This video feels like something someone could write a respectable essay on, having multiple readings and understands. Welldone to you and your crew!
what if that boy becomes the shooter and this dream is what drove him insane
Michael Gentry that shit got deep
Michael Gentry That's what I derived from it too
What made him dream it in the first place? We can only imagine things we have already seen and combinations of those things.
MrSoizes 2 we don't know the backstory but maybe traumatic experiences? Mental illnesses? Maybe
holy crap guys there were 7 sheep. there were 6 zombies and 1 zombie Watsky. where's the murder sheep? the child represents that he won't get his comeuppance. because in this society there's so much violence that the kid is a lost sheep he wanders from killing to killing and is the only one to survive. he killed his way through the zombies.....Watsky, if you're listening, now would be a perfect time for exquisite corpse.
Watsky's music videos are never what you would expect
I know they're sheep and not goats, but is there some kind of wordplay on the word 'kid' perhaps?
Blanco I dont think so, the word "sheep" is used to describe people who don't think for themselves and just follow others
at least thats what I got from it
That would be super clever, if there is. I want there to be.
Blanco in the first verse the shooter describes the students as a flock of sheep, meaning they follow without thinking for themselves, so I think It makes sense
I would also like to add that sheep are commonly used to represent the innocent.
Even the Bible states Sheep are Followers unable to think clearly for themselves
I can't get enough of your videos.. Talks, music... Doesnt matter. Please keep it coming!
Love,
Bones
Kinda weird video for such a serious song
did you watch all of it?
sure did, but it's still a weird video, you have to admit :P
Uncle Death there's a lot of symbolism in it. watch it a few more times
Classic Watsky and his irony. A serious subject, therefore a comical video 🙈
Uncle Death well it's about a kid's understanding of all this stuff. when the kid is told that the world is violent and dangerous and they can't trust anyone, it gets internalized. so she dreams these violent and scary images, and is affected negatively in her day to day life (she can't sleep). her mind is inundated with stories of people committing horrific acts, and it ends up being all she can think about, even in her "happy place."
i'd say this is much more respectful and powerful than making a video that directly correlates with the lyrics.
Honestly, Watsky is one of the most underrated artists in current times.
I can’t express the love.
RIP to those dead in Buffalo. Maybe one day there will be change..
legit my favorite song, for the past 6 months (first time i heard it), been a fan since 2015 but only now heard this song, idk why but i guess the instrumental and the way you speak about such a important matter in that way you have got me in love with this song, tbh. Love from Brazil Watski
Question: will there ever be a video for Exquisite Corpse?
I hope so insanely badly but if it is being made it'll take the longest cause of it's length and more so because of all the people in it
If one doesn't happen, I'd more than likely try to make one. Now, who to cast for the zombie robot clowns...
Iggy Azalea?
yes, he confirmed to me when I met him on tour that they are working on a music video for every single one of the songs, this one was actually completed a while ago but not put out with the original release of the song since they put it out before the album got announced the day after that horrible nightclub shooting.
Just a girl with a humongous butt like a pillow
this is why I love watsky he makes song with meaning and video with such creativity you have to think
I don't wanna be that guy. I love the video, I really do, but... I don't get it. Can some one explain please?
Joseph Chase That actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks, man.
my interpretation is that the bad sheep is obviously the shooter and watsky serves as the government, taking notice of what is going on but never actually doing anything to stop it. the zombie sheep later on i think represent the collective people after everyone has suffered from these tragedies whether it be directly or indirectly and finally doing something themselves rather than waiting on a passive government. at least that's my take on the video
First verse- school shooter
Second verse- media using it for views
Third verse- polititian using the tragedy for political gain, while simultaneously saying his opponent is doing the same for gun control, his stance is that "shit happens"
A lot of rappers will tell a story that mirrors what life is like hoping the people that see this will change or see it as a lesson and basically dont be like the shooter news crew or the bystanders
the chorus is stuck in my head "you got your finger on the trigger kid!"
love this.
Even the shooter who calls the other people sheep, is a sheep himself.
I'm so glad you made a video for this song. Honestly this is my favorite song by you, so I'm grinning ear to ear. Thanks for all you do Watsky
Fadedragontear Well clearly you don't know how to think. It's a metaphor.
Well, a group of sheep, a shepherd who unintentionally created the psychotic sheep by reading them traumatic stories, then ignored the sheep that was still killing everyone else, even during the eulogy, necessitating the dead to literally come back from the grave to exerce revenge. It's pretty close.
@@SalahEddineHyeah that's cool... but you know... It still isn't impactful at all
@@yourboy9236 The lyrics are impactful. Maybe not the video. Video doesn't really matter though.
How is this not viral? This is one of the coolest vids on youtube.
the parallels between this song and the Florida shooting are insane
When someone critiques society and then society proves the critique is valid
I've always loved his music hope he comes to Ottawa soon!
OKAY SO HOW DOES A SONG ABOUT GUN SAFETY LEAD TO THE MUSIC VIDEO BEING ABOUT EVIL ZOMBIE SHEEP
TheSumoHamster It's him showing one out of many can be evil. It's just imagery. I doubt he wanted to make a music video about kids being shot.
symbolism that if you look in the comments can make tons of scene.
TheSumoHamster the song isn't really about gun safety, it's more focusing on mass shootings and the way the shooter feels/views it, and how the media and politicians spin it to fit their agendas.
The song is definitley about gun safety. He asks people to support everytown.org in the original video a gun safety group
Marcus Quintilian, that is true, he does promote gun safety, but it's not what the song is about. Gun safety is a way to help prevent mass shootings. But it's not about gun safety. He can't really link to a "don't be a school shooter page"
Those sheep are creepy as hell
is what I said before I saw the ending
Every watsky song I discover is my new favorite. Genius!
It saddens me this song is STILL RELEVANT in modern day America almost 3 years after it was released.
yeah, I don't know about this one.
It's 3:45am where I am, and I'm watching sheep getting murdered in a rap video ......man this is the life
Watsky back at it again with the best music videos in the game
I wish I was on shrooms when I watched this
niknatural he low-key may have been making it
Phire Legacy420 true.. it's not often that you think of having evil sheep in your music video
Nahhh he trippin..
I wish I wasn't
Why
Whats up Watsky, re visiting your old music cuz I never let it die
I hope Love Letters is next.
good work watsky keep it up you have changed so many lives and created an influence for a new generation to look to..
The shepherd planted the idea in the sheeps mind, he then denied that there was a problem with his beloved sheep until it destroyed him and the sheep both.
imagine if the schools said "maybe putting poor angry children in a prison most of every day for most days of the year is a bad idea."
or the news said "maybe giving this sicko coverage and putting his grand twisted piece of artwork in the faces of the masses is a bad idea"
or politicians said "maybe using these tragedies to improve my career prospects instead of trying to figure out and fix them is a bad idea."
Got this song stuck in my head like ten years after it came out, had to listen again, still great!
New pumped up kicks...
Thank you Watsky. This song is the soul filled shout out to society that I enjoy hearing from you and thank god you finally shaved.
wow this was nothing like what i thought the music video would look like...
This is Deep AF, Watsky is a Genius. Prophetic and Sarcastic.
I remember on one of the first videos you put out for x Infinity someone was saying you wouldn't make a video for this song.. All I have to say is HA IN YOUR FACE INTERNET RANDO WATSKY ALWAYS DELIVERS
I'm so glad I found this guy. He is coming to a festival in Germany and I'm so excited to see him live!
I feel like the sheep seeing the dinosaur is like how shooters see other mass shooters on TV. So he goes on a rampage just like the dinosaur.
