It's so true how the internet has blurred everything together. You see something tragic and then there's a meme right below. We hardly have a chance to process emotions and so it all turns to be numb
It makes me think of Instagram stories. It goes from social justice to “look at what I ate for lunch!” really fast. Makes the seriousness of issues seem insincere.
Exactly. I'm not even entirely sure Bo knew what he had here, because this project clearly weighed on him organically throughout its production, but I'll be damned if there aren't so many subtle nuances in its craft that make it stand head and shoulders above any 'comedy special' in years, if not decades. In fact it's almost insulting to call it a comedy special. This is a feature length, one man virtuoso film that deserves every single award that's coming its way. I always thought Burnham was a smart and snappy performer, but this is visceral stuff that hits hard. I question if some will turn it off before the first 30 minutes or so are up not understanding where this thing is going, but all those people are missing the fuck out on what is right now the best film of the year.
The switch in tempo and intonation from 4:05-4:20 briefly gives the song a seductive, almost burlesque-ish feeling. The phrase “could I interest you” also implies a kind of temptation of the listener-don’t you want this? Can’t I persuade you? And then, brilliantly, we switch to the most uptempo, chaotic moment of the song. Suddenly, the phrase doesn’t feel like a request anymore, but a demand, or even a redundancy-they already have us. The seduction worked. Genius writing on so many levels
“Could I interest you” could also be how on the internet we are constantly bombarded with ads for clothes, food, household items etc even if we don’t need them the internet makes us want them
I feel like that part sounds darker, almost dramatic which to me, gives a hint at all the "dark web" stuff and how fast some people could make others think you're an animal with negative right of living... though that's just my point of view
the end of the song when he starts singing the chorus again and he adds a bunch of sounds on the background was genius because it makes you FEEL overwhelmed, too much going on at once but you cant stop listening, like the way he’s describing the internet itself

The song talks about getting hooked on the internet from a young age and Bo plays the dark side of the internet as a character here. Starting off just googling pictures of cats and talking to friends on facebook then as you grow you you're exposed to the more horrid parts of the internet. This final piece is like the dogs coming out to play. The scary clown noises are like the deepest darks parts of the web finally getting a chance to snatch at your innocence now they've lured you in.

I heard this song awhile ago. Can't believe it took me this long to post a comment. I love how this perfectly describes the mixture of emotions and vast range of content that is the Internet. Something so innocent can become so scary and vice versa, but really sticks out to me is the nonchalance of the singer. He just says something so bizzare and then moves on, like how society has become so desensitized to everything because of the Internet. As much as this is a commentary on the Internet, I also think that it is a commentary on society as a whole and how easy it is for us to get sucked in. Brilliant.
Hello. I'm sorry for the comment. I am a student and I make some vids to help you have a good time and distract you a little from day to day, also with the hope that this helping me a little to pay for my studies. I would really appreciate it if you spend a couple of minutes seeing and enjoying my work. Thanks for your time good people.
I fucking love the character that Bo is portraying here. It has the feeling of a villain song, one where this chaotic malevolent entity is trying to convince you to join him. There's this madness to this character. The mood swings, the sentimental sounding manipulation, an evil laugh to challenge anyone. Fucking great
To me, it feels like a villain who won. I think that was the vibe he was going for. The internet is full of things to keep us distracted and occupied, slowly chipping away at our attention spans and making us dependent. The truth is, we _are_ dependent now. A lot of people can’t function without the internet. So the internet, aka the villain, has won by making us dependent. If you really listen to some of the lyrics closely, like “Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime,” and “Mommy let you use her iPad, you were only two.” I feel like you can glean that message.
He really does take on the embodiment of the internet in human form. Simple and complex at the same time. The enigma that he and the internet is. This is another amazing work of art by Bo.
“It was always the plan to put the world in your hand.” Followed by the creepy villain laugh and sauntering back into the chorus really drives home his point here: we never stopped to consider that maybe that was a bad idea.
I don't think that's the point he would make, just doesn't make any sense since that would literally be impossible to stop the next generations from eventually taking over. Maybe he means the state of the world in our hands, and the sinister laugh represents the lack of regret from any of the aging and dying generations? He is very cryptic and talented with his words
I actually interpreted it as a play on words. "The world is in your hands" takes on a different meaning when you realize that the entirety of the world's knowledge and content is literally in our hands in the form of a smart phone that is connected to the internet 24/7. This is what we'd call a Faustian Bargain, in which the meaning of the wish is intentionally misinterpreted for the worse (think a genie or a deal with the devil). It adds up in my mind because the song thematically has the vibe of the devil singing, in that he is offering temptations with a side of pure evil. I mean he literally lists out something great on the internet immediately followed by the polar opposite. As if he's saying, if you want the good you HAVE to take a bad. Also, this is like Hotel California and you can never leave. teehee
I said it elsewhere, but I believe he is comparing the internet pre smart phone. The internet pre 99 was simple because you couldn't take it with you. We didn't have "everything all of the time" because we had to connect to the horrible sounds of dial up. But with the introduction of internet connected smart phones, it is literally impossible to get away from the internet. Even if you wanted to, chances are you'll get push notified of your desire to do so. And if you throw your phone into the ocean, people would be using live updated maps sent directly to their phones via satellite to find what they expect is your missing body because you were presumed dead the moment your friends and family realized you hadn't posted your opinion about a cancelled celebrity on Twitter.
@@maitreyeenabar1754 For me at least, the line implies that apathy which is a lack of interest in something is a tragedy, well just being bored without anything to do is a crime when the internet exists.
Imagine being a rural 80-year-old farmer or something, finally being like "fine, I guess I'll try the internet", and then this is the first thing you see.
"Boredom is a crime" an incredible quote and I will be using it Additionally the way he gets progressively unhinged throughout the song as it goes from "welcome to this amazing place" to all the ways its been bastardised over the years, the tone, the camera angles and the laughs also suit this, artful! Good job Bo!
@@10DollarProductions No, more like humans coming up with the idea of the internet, Satan thinking it’s dumb at first before realizing how much shit he could cause with it, and then proceeding to capitalize off of our own idea.
I love it because its such a great way to represent shifting perceptions on the internet. When it was first booting up it was seen as the harbinger of a new age of digital democracy. Only for the corporations to slowly get this strange new beast under its thumb. Something with great revolutionary potential that was folded back into the hands of the powerful. A new form of control, now the internet is an Orwellian nightmare, where ANY engagement is good engagement, and algorithms shape our brains and dictate what we see. On top of that we had no Idea what how this new tech would change peoples engagement with life. This massive shift in the way we communicate and live, without a philosophical frame work to navigate this new world. The laugh to me at least is the broken promise of the internet. "It was always the plan to put the world in YOUR hands"
can we talk about bo’s singing voice for a second? it was good to begin with, but damn as the years have passed, it has developed into this smooth and rich tone and i fucking love it. i feel like his vocals in this song in particular are especially like wow does that make sense
His low notes are crazy! He's aways sung in the more "childish" upper register so his low notes that bottom out so clearly are absolutely nuts. The line at 2:27 is my favorite. It honestly sounds like his entire vocal range has shifted downward with time. Love it ❤️

when i first found bo maybe 5 years ago or so it was so awesome, because here is this kid that clearly has what it takes to be one of the greats. not one of the greats yet, and its not clear whether or not he would blossom into one of the greats. it was so awesome to watch because up until that point in my life, all of the comedy greats and my comedy heroes were already super famous greatest of all time level - carlin, hicks, louis ck etc...but bo has given me the chance to watch one of these types of people grow from basically a child into someone who could stand toe to toe with the greats. is he there yet? not quite. will he 100% for sure achieve carlin status? i think it probable but not 100%. either way, its been an absolute honor and privilege to watch and im very much looking forward to all that is to come.
The way the song almost constantly has different noises playing in the background really nails home the feel of information overload the internet gives off at times.
The older this song gets, the more people realise that the part from 3:33 to 4 minutes is true. The more people realise the implication of 'Anything and Everything, at your fingertips.
There’s something very meta about the fact that one of the top trending songs on The Internet right is now is a song about how awful The Internet is. And I just can’t stop hitting the “replay” button.
His voice used to be predominantly a boyish, nasal head voice, occasionally punctuated by dark, husky chest voice. Now with this new grizzled supervillain vibe, he seems to have embraced the latter a lot more, and I love it!
it describes it perfectly if i brought this video on an ipad and showed it to a scared victorian orphan they would understand what it is perfectly and then id be burnt at the stake for being a witch
I used to say “I was half-raised by the internet,” in the context of this song it makes it uncomfortable realization that my personality was influenced by a mindless entity which’s sole purpose was to get me hooked in and guess what, it worked… I’m gonna go outside 😅
@@darkcylander i respectfully disagree; one of the biggest steps when coming to terms with addiction in general is the 'user' acknowledging that it's a problem - and that is the first step, you're right in saying that there are other steps that can be as challenging, but acknowledgement is necessary and often difficult. Especially when the problem in question, internet addiction I guess, is a thing that happens on a massive scale and that is simultaneously very slow and insidious at the individual level (i.e. you don't necessarily see it coming as a person) and mind numbingly fast on a societal scale (i.e. it's only been a couple of decades and it seems like everyone in the younger generations is affected by it) We're only beginning to see the effects of it and we don't understand it fully yet, so trying to come up with solutions without doing more damage is a challenging thing!

I don't even know what to call this - it doesn't feel like a comedy special. Its not a movie or documentary. It feels totally unique and yet unrivalled. Never wanted to cry in a comedy special
I believe that comedians have replaced philosophers in our current culture as both look at society from the outside and make commentary on it. As such, I would call Inside a comedic, philosophical look at society during the phenomenon that was 2020. Sure there's comedy to be had with Bo, but I think it's his cultural commentary that's truly special. I'll probably be thinking about some of the ideas from Inside for years.
4:21 this is my favorite part "COULD I INTEREST YOU IN EVERYTHING ALL OF THE TIME? A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING ALL OF THE TIME? APATHY'S A TRAGEDY AND BOREDOM IS A CRIME MANY THING AND ANYTHING AND ANYTHING AND ANYTHING ANYTHING ALL OF THE TIME!"
The dude's calm while singing, the laughs, the lights, the cameras, the glasses, the piano, each tiny piece of the scenario... every single detail of this video is a work of art and this song is as addicting as the internet
The whole bit. It looks like a very homemade, low quality thing early on but there are so many camera angles. I like to think it was all one take and he just has 6 friends all filming just out of shot from different angles. The glasses, great choice so he's always looking right at us. I agree totally, when he said “just look at you” I felt so guilty because I realized how addicted to the internet, and how addicted everyone else is too
I love how at 3:20 he intentionally brings the mood all the way back up. “your time is now, your inside’s out, honey how you grew” even visually by turning on the most vibrant lights. He sets a peak for positivity and reassurance so he can absolutely crush and twist it in the wink of an eye
bo, me and a lot of people come back to this song because of how well it was written, performed, and edited. you encapsulated how fucked up the internet truly is. how a child (or anyone really) can lose their innocence in near seconds. your work is art, bo, and it's something we can all see and hear. thank you for putting words and jokes in the right places.
The way that he packages so many of the complex and terrifying problems with the internet into a single brilliant song blows my mind every time I listen to it.
After seeing the outtakes and seeing how many times this took to get right, I am... so very impressed! The amount of effort that went into these certainly shows
I’ll never forget watching his movie on Netflix. There’s an experience you get when watching people perform in person, hearing the instruments and all of the above, live. Some how he gave us that… in our living rooms.

It's insane how much better he can control his voice. He sings really damn well here

“It was always the plan to put the world in your hand.” Followed by the creepy villain laugh and sauntering back into the chorus really drives home his point here: we never stopped to consider that maybe that was a bad idea.
I've watched this at least a hundred times and that part still gives me chills
I don't think that's the point he would make, just doesn't make any sense since that would literally be impossible to stop the next generations from eventually taking over. Maybe he means the state of the world in our hands, and the sinister laugh represents the lack of regret from any of the aging and dying generations? He is very cryptic and talented with his words
@@lusyff2390 Yeah it's not so much a criticism of the internet as a concept...but the cesspool corporation driven version that it's become.
Just saying Bo, I think the line “Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime” is by far one of your best lines. You did a really good job on this.

it's easy to lay out the problems, coming up with solutions is the part nobody wants to do.
@@darkcylander i respectfully disagree; one of the biggest steps when coming to terms with addiction in general is the 'user' acknowledging that it's a problem - and that is the first step, you're right in saying that there are other steps that can be as challenging, but acknowledgement is necessary and often difficult.
Especially when the problem in question, internet addiction I guess, is a thing that happens on a massive scale and that is simultaneously very slow and insidious at the individual level (i.e. you don't necessarily see it coming as a person) and mind numbingly fast on a societal scale (i.e. it's only been a couple of decades and it seems like everyone in the younger generations is affected by it)
We're only beginning to see the effects of it and we don't understand it fully yet, so trying to come up with solutions without doing more damage is a challenging thing!

@@shnorglebop1798 if they're controlled what makes you think they "got away with it". The owners knew it would be good PR to show them as fighting this perceived evil, just so people would give more money to the people perpetuating it by buying their songs
Idk if I get that part. Is it mocking that point of view or is it a serious statement that he's using to "sell" the internet?
This is a eye opener for everyone who is new or old in the internet, thank you for making this piece of art, its catchy, fun, and i hope yo create more content in the future!
This song is incredibly witty and insightful, and mortally terrifying. The internet really is just sensory overload with a long burning fuse.
Amen! Of course I say this in the comment section of a website with a little bit of everything all of the time, on a phone that offers endless ways of engaging in a little bit of everything. .
@@Catlady-mw4en well, we're all in it for better or worse
@@cygnusx-1942 I mean, we could just stop but. . then. . we’d . . be . .BORED😱. I’m not mature enough for that, lol. I’m gonna put the goal of giving tech a rest right with my goal of losing 15 pounds. In “someday”-land🙂.
Nice name btw
Almost as insightful as Cygnus X-1 (Book 2 of course; I love Book 1 just as much as Book 2, but the lyrical meaning is quite a bit more straightforward in Book 1)
I am never shutting the fuck up about how good this special is.
i thought it was a little bit hit or miss, but when it hits (like this song) it hits really hard. but like a song about how your mom doesn't understand how to use facetime? i had to skip past that one. just a really boring premise
@@fruitypeebils I interpreted that song more as a comment on how he had to facetime his mom every night as part of his coping mechanism during lockdown. He's said frequently how much his mom has helped him so I thought it was quite moving peek into their relationship.
@@charliestott3502 fruity doesn't have the brain capacity to know what you're talking about
AGREED
@@fruitypeebils I can't explain how on point that reaction is to the themes of the special. "This part isn't amazingly entertaining to me at this very moment should I just sit here for 3mins and watch it? No, can't wait that long MUST SKIP TO CONTENT!"
Remember fruity, apathy's a tragedy, and boredom is a crime.
the "mommy let you use her ipad" part and the "look at you, honey how you grew" really called me out so many different ways, when i was watching it i felt like he was talking to me. you're amazing bo.
Me too, man.
same my dude
Right here my guy
Same I wish I could've grown up in the nineties.

This song is so addicting it should be classified as a narcotic.
I agree so much.
Yep
This.
Yes
It’s because it’s getting at something at the core of things.
“Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime.”
That is one hell of a quote.

Why?
Does someone mind explaining it to me?

@@calebmurphy9406 It’s talking about the constant flow of new information and content that the internet provides. Basically, the Internet treats apathy, or the lack of enthusiasm/interest, as well as boredom as something that shouldn’t be happening, so it feeds you more information endlessly.

Bravo! This is such a succinct critic of our time! Good art makes you think and keeps you thinking long after. I was born in the 70ties and have two gen z children and think a lot about what the Internet is doing with our brains. Boredom is a virtue because it forces you to be creative. I never see kids climb trees anymore, or just run around aimlessly, and that was something I did because I was bored.
This song is terrifying, upbeat, accurate, psychotic, chaotic, and makes me feel every emotion at once. It's perfect. I un/ironically love _the internet._
