We decided the only way to do justice to a song with ten verses on it (counting the intro) was to have ten different directors for the video. We shot this video last weekend, one day before the x Infinity film premiere screening. We wanted to do our version of filmmaking summer camp. Welcome to the apocalypse.

I like when Diggs is rapping and says “pull over” even though he’s the one driving, and Rafael just gives him this look lol
Well in Diggs verse he says "you'd better drive" and then in Nat's verse she says "Diggs in the driver and Raf in the back." So they probably had to make an adjustment for the video.

I'd just like to appreciate the lyricism here. The constant comedic back drop of robot-zombie-clowns and wild packs of North American beavers and Watsky's quest for a craving of garlic rolls. The way Flint Michigan is described as a wasteland _before_ the apocalypse and the constant dread of a dead world, deserts in Portland and winter coming in flames. Its all extremely good story telling and atmosphere that builds on it's self in a beautiful prose of improv. I especially love how it ends on a really poetic line that mirrors the beginning.

Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver (from the original French term cadavre exquis), is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun." as in "The green duck sweetly sang the dreadful dirge.") or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.

is it just me or does it sound like when each person wrote their verse they only had the person before them to go off of so it feels like one of those stories where one person writes a paragraph then the next person writes one and so on until u have a complete story. Yeah!! If I remember right at all (I'm probably wrong lol), I think the song itself was a game of exquisite corpse! I've heard that George wrote the first verse and sent it to dumbfounded, where he wrote his verse going off of the first verse, then to the next artist and so on. Of course I'm not 100% sure on this, since it's been a while since I've addressed this, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
No, that's exactly it. I literally just decided to watch the video again after finding out that "exquisite corpse" is an actual art method creaed by the surrealist movement. So every collaborator contributes with their part after hearing the person before. Makes the song even cooler than it was before.
That's not quite "exactly it." Only because it's not the case that each collaborator "only had the person before them to go off." If each artist only had the previous artists' contribution, it would be a disjointed tangential word salad without the overall unifying themes that are present -but not necessarily readily apparent (it will *seem* more disjointed than it actually is, to some). What's less obvious, is that it is clear each artist on this track also understands important elements of the Surrealist movement itself -elements that go beyond the works of art created by them. (It's definitely worth also noting, that Surrealist Exquisite Corpses were at first wordplays, before they started playing with imagery.)
It wasn't that Watsky just had some political and "scorched earth" jokes in his head, and everyone followed suit. The dystopian, post-apocalyptic references are more subtle and even obscure from some of these artists, but each artist IS keeping to this theme consistently throughout.
In this track, each artist is speaking to that much larger cultural context the Surrealist Movement represents, rather than simply following suit with bananas after the first guy said orange, until they ended up with a bowl of fruit.

That being said, I thought this to be one of the most amazing examples of visual poetry that I have ever seen. The pattern, or tempo, or whatever its called, is complex but easy to get. It's lyrically gripping; a poetic coyote jumping up and biting my middle-aged ass. Visually gripping and overbearing all at once. From this I take away 2 important things: 1, I know little about the future. 2, It's not going to be as dark as portrayed in this video as long as there are people making videos like this. But I'm as smart as a box of rocks, so take it for all it's worth.
