Is no one else gonna mention how awesome it is that Michael Jackson from Thriller comes out of no where on a crotch rocket and not only starts playing the drums and killing zombies with drumsticks but also makes the zombies dance with him?
Watsky, you are a genius.
I actually love the idea behind the song and how watsky literally made the whole song to address accusations towards him of being a hipster
And part of it is that he is a little bit of a hipster.
Fuck Apple
That sounds like some meta shit a hipster would do.
Genius.
Reminds me of the dull machete bar which is just as self deprecating
I walk the block like I'm hot shit. I gentrify the corner store just buying hot chips.
This was low-key one of the most clever lines in the song.
And now Chinaka Hodge has joined the MCU as showrunner for Ironheart.🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼
everything this guy does is fuckin great.
True, aside from stagedives, before anybody else gets there.
GrumpyGrebo LOL Did he do that??
Scott J. Fox Yeah, he did a 30ft+ stage dive into the crowd and broke one of his fans' arms, hence the comment :p
GrumpyGrebo
you are one of the first people i have seen on the internets use the word "hence" properly (without saying "hence why")
I agree, but honestly, it's starting to scare me.... WHY CAN'T I FIND A SINGLE SONG OF HIS THAT ISN'T AMAZING!!
"Living no rules, Calvin ball" is probably the greatest line in the history of rap music
It's meant to sound pretentious.
Why is everyone saying this song's cheesy or it has no variety in the rhythm? I think it's still a sick beat, and the references just make. It all the more funnier. My favorite part was when the hipsters started singing, without realizing that they were insulting themselves
I'm with ya, the hipster part is so frickin' catchy. "I know..... "
I don't care what anyone says, this one of the most creative music videos ever.
Mathias Kanuck yeah bro
It’s honestly art on another level
Omg I have to agree. This music video is pure art. The look she gave Watsky when he was a zombie, better love story than twilight.
It's a dumb reason to complain. Sounds like they can't argue against the poetry, so they're trashing the production
Not gonna lie...I clicked on this vid because I saw a grandma holding an AK
You're not alone i did it to
Ulysses M You must be a hipster lolz jk
chad mertz Nope i prefer be with hipsters than be a hipsters after all kill a hipster save your hood ...lol jk
607,568 others did, too.
Dude I Did It To
As someone who's seen my neighborhood get gentrified it kinda breaks your heart to see all those memories and all those people gone. This song is a masterpiece, the metaphors couldn't have been more accurate.
I have spent the vast majority of my life living and growing in Newark NJ... The hardest thing I've ever done was try to explain to someone how fucking weird it is that there is now a Whole Foods on downtown Broad Street. I was in a bar and the bartender got it, but this townie absolutely could not see the problem
Like most things George and Chinaka do, this is nothing short of brilliant. This song was a killer piece of multi-faceted social commentary before it the video brought it to a whole new level with the zombie tie-in. So good! Keep it coming, Watsky.
The message behind this song / video is literally eating itself alive.
Hardest bar ever dropped: "i put goat cheese on my lucky charms"
This is absolutely amazing in every way possible.
And Chinaka needs to make more rap songs! She killed it.
Watsky is great at taking one timers or rarely rappers and making gold, I was shocked Karmin never made more rap
Can't believe this is from 2013, still loving it!
Still dope in 2018. 🙃
Tech Showdown yeah dude a whole 5 years. Crazy how the times treat art that has effort
All the way up to 2020!
still dope in 2022 😌
Watsky swinging a mic around one-tapping hipsters in the face is the best thing ever, period.
I live in Boulder, Colorado, which to anyone who doesn't know, is essentially a wannabe Portland. So when I saw this, I grew a level of appreciation for Watsky that was absolutely profound lol. Seriously guys. Starbucks and goat cheese EVERYWHERE. You know how many people have told me about Syria in the past 8 days? Seriously, if I hear 'I texted Hati' one more time, I'm gonna freakin break inside.
Definitely one of my favorites i've heard from Watsky. Need to hear more tracks with Chinaka...
why is this not a full movie
Calvin Ball is, without comparison, the best reference in any hip hop track ever. There is no debating that.
Old but gold, so gold
Chinaka Hodge is a baws! So glad she was discovered by Watsky!
Loved this video and the song.
Why did the silliest zombie video almost make me cry.
The look on her face staring at zombie hipster watsky was real heartbreak 😂
This video makes my insides giggle
2:32 oh shit!! that dud got crossed so hard his leg broke!!1!!!11111!!11
screw google plus that ankle breaker tho
was dumfounded just playing tennis in your music video?
Omfg thanks soo much grace for likening this.
All these years later, and I still get so excited when I hear this song I love it so much!!!
🎵🎷🥁🎶
I'd love to see more of this duo.
That Calvin and Hobbes reference tho!!
"im living no rules; calvin ball". the nostalgic 8 year old me just screamed in joy
Brilliant, George. Brilliant Chinaka. Best Watsky statement yet.
Man I was waiting for a Video of "Kill a Hipster" for ages!!!! It finally came out ... AND IT ROCKS!!!
And Chinaka Hodge is such a Badass! :D
This song is spot on and so is the video! Incredible yet again! Ty Watsky 😘
Excited to see Chinaka as a screenwriter for Ironheart!
One of the best tracks. Need more songs with Chinaka.
Anyone realize he said "living no rules: calvin ball"?
Calvin and Hobbes reference!!!!!
SamMut Best line ever!
***** r
Yasss
I love the calvinball reference
me too
ITS A CRIME AGAINST CULTURE THAT MORE PEOPLE HAVEN’T MENTIONED THIS. BEST. COMICS. EVER.
I'm from Williamsburg. Yes i said From. This song is water for my parched soul. Thank you.
This a textbook banger.
These songs should have millions of views dafuq is wrong with people how do they not see such creativity and musical, production talent!?
La Meute est la !
En force les gars! Aieki, on t'aime!
en force 27 27 !
soldat fredouner ON EST PAS TOUT SEUL!!!
This is a blast from the past! I still love this guy's work!
Happy Birthday, Watsky!!
As a bay area resident who's watched San Francisco gentrify faster than caviar, I gotta say, the city I love has swarmed full hipsters. I want to save my hood but it's got so much hipster presence I'd take genocide to clear it.
+Dakoda Vaerus I'm lucky enough that San Jose gets left alone. We're the bigger city in area and population, but we're not cool or trendy enough, so even when they live here they go to SF or Oakland for their fun.
Did anyone else notice the piano playing under the music following the staredown of Hipster Watsky and Chinaka? It added a whole level of nuance to the last part of the song. I mean, it's a song about a hipster zombie apocalypse and still finds a way to make an emotional connection in even the tiniest ways. As is said, little things can make a big difference. This is why I love Watsky.
Also, if you pay attention. The moment he starts rapping after he's infected is RIGHT at the 4:20 mark. Blaze it.
I'm from Portland and feel personally called out, he speaks the truth. We have a park where, on Mondays, people sit around the park drinking and hanging out until it's dodgeball time. It's called Monday Funday.
He is soooo freaking underappreciated!!! The fact that he hit up the Calvin and Hobbes reference....."Calvin Ball" is bad ass!!!
Dumbfoundead is in the video! I wish he were in the song though. He would have killed it.
We should legit write congress about hipsters
I still listen to this on a regular. Love you watsky!
Everytime Watsky and Chinaka make a song together, Watsky becomes a zombie at the end.
If you disliked this video, it's probably talking about you.
Robert Sandroff I disliked it because I thought it was shit lol
Dead nan disliked the video because he is a butt hurt emo kid
"Hipsters" and "Emo's" are completely different thing, I'm not a fan of rap, I was directed here from another video, I listened to this, I did not like it, so I disliked it.
Dead Nan hipsters and Emo kids suck the same amount.
Lmao. Those are just labels mate. REALITY CHECK REALITY CHECK
More like Chinaka Hodge ft Watsky
I (re)discovered Watsky bc of her on this song. She's a badasssss. Love both of them so much.
Darío Gutierrez I guess that means silly videos about slaying hipster zombies is typical of Chinaka Hodge's usual repertoire? I wasnt aware ;)
Indeed (??)
How he's in every verse and the chorus..?
almost every verse
Chinaka deserves an Oscar for this. She looks genuinely regretful for having to kill Watsky at the end.
I love that you make music videos for your songs. So much more engaging than a lyric video, slideshow, or static background! I pick up something new every time I watch them ❤️
Rise of the West Coast world hip hop.
1.5 million views why not that many subs
It's a shame but it happens all the time, and it kinda pisses me off. I mean, some channels don't have a lot of videos and they may have one that was really good, so in that case i understand, but there are other big channels with good content with the same problem. If you liked what you saw, wouldn't you like to see more of that? And in that case, why don't subsribe? It's a little frustrating
Gastón Psotka Schendel Lots of views aren't people with accounts, can't subscribe.
Rize Waters a lot of ppl watch the vid more than once, and some ppl without accounts watch
I will never get tired of that ending ^U^
love the little touches in this vid like the coachella bracelet on the hipster
Am I the only one who thinks Chinaka is hot?
nope, me too
"Because there are 7 billion 47 million people on the planet
,
And I have the audacity to think I matter" - Watsky
Fuck no, she's super fine.
Nope
Who’s watching this in 2023
2024 y’all
2024
2024!
Hipsters are the kind of people who find something, like it, it gets popular, and they dont /seem/ to like it anymore. They avoid popular things to seem different, but still conform
I lived in W. Hollywood when the hipsters took over. I ended up leaving , it just wasn’t ever the same.......this song hits it on the head even though it’s about a different area. Same song and dance though........
a👏 beautiful👏 black👏 woman👏 and👏 watsky👏 two👏 of👏 my👏 favourite👏 things👏 Im👏 here👏 for👏 it👏
pussy
iBlurryface Yupp I smash pussy
Likewise here for it. Also, Chinaka is amazing in every aspect.
Just to make things clear. If you watch this video and feel the need to defend yourself about not being a hipster...You're a hipster
What the hell? I was drinking an Horchatá while listening to this! ¡Piche coincidencias!
I'm just glad that I'm finally hip to Watsky.
Definitely the sickest video off Cardboard Castles, and one of the best songs on it as well. The truth is that gentrification is a huge problem, and Watsky addresses it so eloquently here, even admitting that he, in appropriating hip hop as it were, and indulging in the culture of white trans-cultural subversion. I also love the caricatures of hipsters. They are so detailed, even down to the Coachella wristband.
Watsky's backhand though
Watsky slinging the mike like a meteor hammer... badass
This chinaka is killing this
4:20 Watsky rhymes “one of ’em” with “one of ’em.” Incredible poetry right there!
Shit, at least it rhymed.
~now im not a hipster, but I saw this video before it was cool
This song is AWESOME Watsky.
This song is so good!
Ngl the hipster bit sounded kinda good
+Alex Grace ^S^
Shadowdeath 915 You know it!
Alex Grace STRAAAAAANGE!
Alex Grace TECH N9NE
i bet natives to urban cities love this song because u kno
I love the thriller dance at the end. Nice touch.
This should be a TV-Show
Is that Dumbfoundead playing badminton in the background?
yup
YEEEEE
Yep lol!
He also appears in Tiny Glowing Screens 3
Олег Шаула and he rapped on “exquisite corpse”
All those people saying they're not hipsters are totally missing the point of this song
***** Touché. ;-) Well, to me, the point is killing a hipster won't change a damn thing, you have to save your hood by changing your own behaviour.
Killing criminals? Wouldn't the people doing the killing of criminals be criminals as well...?
Yeah, I assume you live in the USA, I heard they have outdated practices like that over there. It doesn't work, turns governments into killing machines... Glad I don't live in a place where things like that are happening.
Strange Powers No, the song is about the gentrification of poor minority neighborhoods in the US that ends up skyrocketing rent and the cost of living and forcing out the residents whose families have lived there for generations.
Also with a bit of cultural appropriation thrown in for good measure.
Strange Powers that link made me hate watsky, thanks
Loved it
was so excited for this when it came out
Hipsters=zombies.....got it.
Not the message.
whoozbi In the sense that zombies are mindless
whoozbi in the sense that they infect urban areas and drive out the people and cultures living there
You seem pretty privileged. If you lived in a ghetto area you'd know. Hipsters are a death sentence. It means we all lose our homes. They are a plaque like zombies
@@quinnmurphy2294 this shit is dumb. were all in this together.
I think this song is about two things.
First, frustration over upper-middle class, (mostly) white people gentrifying traditionally black/Latino neighborhoods and appropriating their culture. E.g., Watsky had a chip on his shoulder over people pronouncing Latino communities in L.A. with an exaggerated Spanish dialect, even though the actual Latin Americans living there pronounced them the American English way. This would explain the line "I'm like, "hola Mama; I'm your Papa; Can I please have DOS DORRRRRRRRRRR-CHATAS?!""
Second, how the definition of the word 'hipster' had become so broad, it could be applied on anyone. It can refer to being into retro-stuff, rejecting the mainstream, following a certain style or brand, pretentious academics, pretentious anti-academics or the gentrifying class mentioned in the paragraph above, or it could be neither of those and something else completely. It was up to the point that Watsky himself could be defined as a hipster.
or its just a song
Wow bro so fucking analytical and deep
Whatever the case may be, they’re annoying af.
Its "dos Horchatas"... its a drink.
Sickem yeah cause songs never have meanings, right?
this will always be my favorite video
This is the best thing I've ever seen/heard...
Calvin and hobbes reference ftw!
There the best
dont want to be that guy, but the hipsters sounded pretty good.
You are that guy. They aight.
Goblin Gilmartin finally someone agrees.
Anthony Formosa i just thought about this. the hipsters are singing about killing themselves.
Yes.... Yes they are
@@anthonyformosa9344 s' cause its "hip" to be depressed remember? its why they're doing so many damaging things. they stopped caring, theyre zombies XD
So creative, one of his best vids.
One of my favorite vids
Now I'm scared cus I'm a hipster
Watsky telling us to kill a hipster is like GW telling us the mission was accomplished.
Chinaka is soooo pretty!
That was awesome
Brains should've been "sesos" not "cabeza".
He´s speaking portuguese no spanhol
Are you dumb or what? Brains in portuguese is Cérebro, no "cabeza".
I think it's supposed to be like that tho. The woman is supposed to not understand English that well
Cerebro is also brain in spanish as well i think..
Hey Homie Ikr Cabeza is head lol
Hipsters = zombies. Interesting, accurate comparison.
Love Watsky! You can really tell he's a true artist that just uses hip hop as his medium. He sick on spoken word as well! Keep doing ya thing man. Shit like this elevates the game!
This might be your best song yet, and I love everything you do man. Promote the hell out of it. It'll forever be one of my favorite songs.
