I'm 66. I've been playing since I was 15. I play almost every night. I ain't all that bad, imho. However, I usually avoid Willie songs because of all his unique runs and transitions. But, watching this? I'm feeling it. I'm on it! 🙂
Willie is am amazing songwriter and a very underrated guitar player in my opinion. He wont blow you away with technical prowess, but it takes a long time to be able to play as"free" as he does as you put it.I admire his soloing ability because every note counts and nothing is wasted.Dude can play that thing!
You are an amazing human being. Thank you for this! My nephew just passed away recently a few days shy of 21. I'm trying to learn this for him as I work through my grief. This helps immensely. In addition, I have small hands and struggle with barre chords. By watching you play, after more years than I care to admit, I was finally able to play a barre chord with all the strings ringing through clearly! I definitely will be buying you a drink on your page soon. Thank you so much.
Very good lesson. Your teaching style is clear and patient, and you demonstrate the details nicely. I really enjoyed this, one of my favorite Wille Nelson tunes.
Excellent presentation! As a beginner, I can really appreciate the way you explain the structure of the song. Showing the chords above your actual playing is very helpful. Thank you!
David, thank you for a fantastic lesson! I love the structure and how one can quickly go to the song elements they want to work on! You are an amazing performer to boot!
Amazing lesson! "I will definitely try it out on my guitar and then on my mountain dulcimer. I've been playing guitar for 20 years and love it. I want to challenge myself and learn the walkups and walkdowns in this song. Great teaching! Dolores
Excellent and the song notes are thorough and great! Would love to continue with the "angel" theme and ask if you might consider teaching John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" or really just any John Prine. Other good options for Prine are "all the Best", "Unwed Fathers" or many others. Lesson was great. Thanks,
This guy is really really good at teaching and showing techniques a lot better than some I've seen I've been playing for about 50 years and just learned a new way to make a D Minor 7 a lot easier than the old way that I've done it for years up on the neck instead of right there at the head thanks
I play a baritone ukulele, I can't do the bass strings that you have so I have to massage everything. But I wanted to say I find your instruction excellent and those with guitars out there would do well to follow your work.
What model guitar are you playing? The sound on this is fabulous, I’ve been following you on Patreon for a year now as I’m trying to learn. I learn more from you than from anyone else. Thank you in advance for your response regarding the type of guitar.
great lesson.....if you want a suggestion, I also would like to learn "The last thing I needed the first thing this morning" also done by Willie.....thanks PEACE
awesome job! thanks for doing one of my all time favorite songs. Do you do requests? I would love to see something like this for Willie's version of "A Song For You"
tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/willie-nelson/angel-flying-too-close-to-the-ground-tabs-2733015 I just followed this tab and played with the music until I got it down, not hard really. The tempo/timing is the hardest part of the solo.
Overall, very accurate. However, I noticed a few discrepancies, not all of which I have sorted out yet. Most notably, in the very last line of the song, instead of going from the E to an A it goes to a D and does the walk down to A (Db, B, A). Also, in the previous iteration of the same line, it sounds like it goes A - E - A - D - E with some funny business going on between the D and E that I haven't figured out. There's something weird going on around some of those B7s, too.
Please please please do another vid for this song and dumb it down for me. Or message me a dumbed down version. I need to know what strings to pick with what chords. You were going so fast that I couldn’t tell. I know you said to be free but I’m a total beginner and I need examples of which ones you would do. I can’t get it to sound as good. I wouldn’t ask this of you but I want to play this song at my grandmothers funeral. I don’t know if that will be a week away or a year. She’s 82 and is not doing well so I doubt she’ll go another year. Please help me and give a more detailed lesson for a beginner. I will be forever grateful!!

I've been playing for almost 20 years... self taught. Wish this guy was around when I was learning. So mediatating and calming. Wonderful teacher.
You’re an amazing teacher. I was intimidated to try to learn this, but man, you made it seamless!!

For sure! He’s amazing. If you have any requests for songs by him let me know, I plan on doing more for sure sooner than later.
The Dirtiest Bradford BRADFORD I completely agree with you. Love the free style of his playing. His playing is magical!
Listen to Lukas play his version at the Opry a couple months ago. I was lucky enough to be there

Hi David, it was just like listening Willie singing and playing the song. It was a pleasure to hear your nice and smooth voice, much obliged.

Talk about an AWESOME lesson. So much information here!

Thanks, glad you appreciate it!
Thank you from the bottom of my Willie Nelson loving heart 💓
Mate you are a champion. Thank you so much for this lesson. Love all Willie's work.
Nice job! I like to leave the 3rd feet out when walking up from E to A and including the 3rd when walking down from D to B7
Working hard to learn this and this video is my Bible. Thanks.
Amazing lesson! "I will definitely try it out on my guitar and then on my mountain dulcimer. I've been playing guitar for 20 years and love it. I want to challenge myself and learn the walkups and walkdowns in this song. Great teaching!

I have just found this video,it is absolutely spot on thank you so much👍
Also Thanks! I love this song, played it a lot of times - and now a little bit more exactly. 😁

Just so you know the walk up from low E is E, F, F#, G# not E, F#, G, G#. The walk down from the D is D, C#, C to the B
Thank you for this. A full cover would be awesome.
Thank you! I'm trying to learn this song on baritone ukulele, and I found this very helpful.
Hell yeah that was great the best I've ever heard I would love to hear your full version
Great lesson thanks Dave.

Nice tone/video. I believe the chords on the verse, "so leave me if you need to..." are A to A7 to D, etc. Your C#M there seems off.
Great lesson!
