I didn't realize that quitting caffeine could cause this. Thank you, this has been a great help to me seriously.

    To anyone watching: I have quit caffeine cold turkey for the second time now (mostly energy drinks) and the anxiety / panic attacks are very much symptoms of withdrawal. While I am experiencing these, I am more calm because the same thing happened to me when I first quit cold turkey and it goes away after a few days. Just remember that it WILL pass. I had gone to the hospital as well and they checked my vitals and everything and said I am perfectly healthy. I believe It’s all psychological. I’m on day 3 (or 4) and while I did have trouble sleeping, I am feeling slightly better.
    Drink LOTS of water, drink non caffeinated teas, orange blossom water calms you down A LOT naturally, and just get your mind off of it. You will find that when you’re not thinking about it then you don’t feel anything. I also recommend sparkling waters.

I now only drink camomille and some green tea once in a while. Mostly Decaf tea. My caffeine intake daily is less than 50 mg - I saw a cardiologist, my palpitations were really bad over 5000 irregular skips in a 24hr cycle. now back to sub 25 skips a month later. Going on day 6 , morning of day 6 right now. I actually started drinking coffee day 4 and realized it was the withdrawals that made me moody, depressive, anxious, panic attacks out of nowhere, . Day 5 I sipped on coffee not so much drank more than a 3rd… it wasn’t enough cause I woke up from my sleep with a panic attack. Never had happened before!
      I suffer from anxiety but usually when I’m close to my menstrual. This process sucks. I wasn’t purposely trying to quit cold turkey, I was just having tummy issues and didn’t want the acidity to make it worse. These panic attacks and anxiety are 100x worse.

    I've been relying HEAVILY on coffee for the past couple of months since getting a new promotion. Yesterday, I woke up 2 hours early with no alarm, and I was in full blown panic, dizziness, and very sick to my stomach. I couldn't understand what was going on, and not knowing made me even MORE scared. I tried my best to go through my morning routine...i was falling asleep standing up, anxious, sweaty, feeling like I was going to throw up. I finally began drinking my coffee, and within 10 minutes, everything was gone.
    I couldn't believe it. I've had caffeine withdrawal headaches, but that's it...this was something different. A whole other craziness. So, now I'm trying to drink less, soon I will switch to a less caffeinated coffee, and slowly taper down. I can't believe I'm talking about coffee like it's heroin.

      How did you go cutting back Bryan?

    • @bryanstellfox8521
      @bryanstellfox8521 4 года назад +2

      @@19hollyy Well, I had been drinking a pot of Death Wish every day. After the day I talked about in the above post, I went about finding exactly how much caffeine I was consuming. I realized I was taking in over 3,000 mg!!!!
      So, I immediately switched to a standard Maxwell House coffee. Still drank a pot a day, but that cut the caffeine in half. After that, I got more scientific. I bought caffeine tablets and set up a tapering schedule, much like what doctors use to wean patients from drugs. I got the tablets for two reasons. 1) I was able to know exactly how much caffeine I was taking, and 2) It removed the ritual and taste of coffee. Many drug and alcohol groups state that ritual is a big part of addiction, so I removed it.
      Eventually, I got down to 400mg, the FDA recommended limit. That's where I am today.

    • @bryanstellfox8521
      @bryanstellfox8521 3 года назад +2

      @@umy9828 Because I tapered in such a specific way, I didn't really experience much withdrawal. After I realized what I was feeling, it made me feel a lot better...kind of like knowing your enemy is half the battle type thing.
      This is what helped me...
      1) Switch to a less caffeinated coffee. Drink the same amount as you did before.
      2) Drink your coffee at the same times as usual, just have a little less. Aim for a 20% reduction each week.
      3) Once you're down to 32oz or less, switch to caffeine tablets. Take two per day, totaling 400mg.
      4) From there, you can choose to go lower, stay the same, or get off completely.

    Currently on my fourth day without caffeine. The past three days have been a nightmare, with panic attacks and the fact that I didn’t know what’s going on at first made me scared and it got even worse. I searched all of my symptoms and it turns out that I’m going through caffeine withdrawal. The thing is, I cut out caffeine before too, but never got these symptoms. Also, I wasn’t that much of a coffee drinker. I would only have a cappuccino or a latte, but frequently, so the dependency still installed. I feel better already, because as I said, I wasn’t that kind of person to drink 10 cups of black coffee per day. But it was still horrible. I can’t even imagine how others that drank bigger quantities of coffee feel like. I’m honestly never touching caffeine again. Scary experience.

    I'd highly recommend the book "Caffeine Blues" by Stephen Cherniske for the real deal on what caffeine does to you. It's seriously bad news, and withdrawal is an absolute nightmare, something that can often take a few months to get through. I'm on day 12 right now and typically finding no value in anything I do and generally thinking I'm a talentless waste of space. Looking forward to that changing! Oh and as another has already said...cold showers help. The whole "Wim Hof Method" helps. As does exercise. You're going to be detoxing big time, so you need to sweat it out.

I didn't have my cup of coffee on Christmas day and I felt depressed, had no energy, and had EXTREME anxiety when I woke up the day after Christmas even though I had had a great Christmas despite the Milwaukee Bucks loss. I just attributed it to having to go back to work for 6 days after my mini break but I've never had anxiety like THAT before. I am a person that is pretty anxiety prone on a daily basis, although I've never been to a doctor and got diagnosed with a disorder. So seeing that his has happened to someone else makes me feel better and definitely makes me think it was caffeine withdrawal.

      @Porter Porter Hi, I’m doing so much better now!
      I went from feeling constantly like I’m going to die everyday to now just feeling a bit anxious
      The physical symptoms like the 24/7 chest pain, palpitations and globules hysteria which caused the anxiety have significantly reduced
      So for me time has been the biggest healer
      Hope that’s reassuring at least

    • @ElConchita
      @ElConchita Год назад

      @Porter Porter I called a doctor
      and they prescribed me a beta blocker called propranolol for my heart. Which seems to help with the palpitations but not the other symptoms
      I didn’t go through
      with doing therapy because I wasnt in a calm enough state to do it.Personally Im glad I didnt go to therapy because I think my anxiety was only really caused by a reaction to the internal symptoms and withdrawal and not a deeper issue.
      What helped me was
      to make time and prioritize reducing my anxiety over doing other things. I meditated and journaled my thoughts for at least 30 minutes everyday but
      ideally for up to an hour as that's when I noticed the biggest improvement in my anxiety.
      I do think that if you only started to get anxiety when having caffeine or when you came off it then time may be your biggest healer.And that things like meditation might just help for the time being. But if you had a lot of anxiety before the caffeine then maybe therapy might help you more as it could be that the caffeine has just worsened the anxiety which was already there not caused it.
      If your anxiety has improved on its own and you haven't done anything for that to happen then its likely that its only going to
      continue to get better as it already has.
      But I hope you stay strong and start feeling better soon you got this! :)

    The caffeine industry (tea, coffee, energy drinks) has done a great job of marketing the drug as a 'good for you' thing. Yes, it has benefits. But it IS addictive and for some of us we just shouldn't take it. I just did the cold-turkey thing too but the fatigue and headaches were too severe so I started up again so I can taper off and then be done with caffeine for good. It raises anxiety far too much and it's too addictive for me.

      Funny enough I just saw my comment here from three years ago. I have only been off of caffeine for one month a couple years back and it was the best month I’ve had in a very long time. All I can say is if you are detoxing keep pushing, I am currently only taking in 99 mg through Jocko Go energy drinks which are all natural. I’m having a lot of anxiety I think because I am dropping from 200 to 400 mg a day down to just 99. I’m trying to stay strong and keep pushing forward, stopping monsters and the other ones like Celsius. I am then going to drop off of having any caffeine and be done with this horrible drug for the rest of my life.

    Hey there !! This is so crazy bc I quit caffeine Jan 11th and just like you said, the anxiety kicked in like a day later and is still lurking around. It’s not as intense anymore but everyday I wake up a little anxious and just feel on edge all throughout the day, I have noise sensitivity. It affects my sleep too. I’m now almost a month caffeine free. I hope you see this. I just would like an update on how you’ve been feeling since our story is similar

    Do withdrawal symptoms go away immediately if you start drinking coffee again? Or does it take a little time after drinking coffee again for anxiety symptoms to leave? Never had these issues till after going cold turkey.

    Im on day 2 and i have crazy anxiety. I wake up and it hits me quick, im super anxious instantly. Lasts all day. Ive gone through this before, but ended up failing. Years later i decide to quit again, and its just the same as before... i dont know how long it lasted, because i was convinced i was dying, so im sure i unintentially made it worse for myself. Holing this time around i can just let it pass. The muscle tension doesnt help either.

      I’ve been mega-dosing Thiamin TTFD also, along with taking a methylated B-complex and a full spectrum Magnesium supplement. I’ll occasionally use Methylene Blue as well…my energy levels are almost super-human.
