Jerry Goldsmith was the master of film soundtracks. He deserved that Oscar for the Omen because the the music's suspensful mood. Goldsmith brings a lot of excitement and supsense in his scores, especially in horror and science fiction movies. He should have least scored a Oscar nod for "Alien". Many nominations but one win, Goddamn you, Academy!
Holy cow! All those she mentions are all great! Bernard Herrman's taxi driver was great too. Lalo Schifrin still is alive and kicking, who can forget his Dirty Harry theme? Jerry Goldsmith should have gotten more than just one Oscar.
RIP Jerry. You introduced me to the glory of film scores with The Secret of NIMH and I've not lkooked back since I was 7 years old. Thank you, Maestro. What is this from, exactly? I know it's the Oscars but what is this actual video?
Carol, a former UCLA cheerleader, was very charming and very smart. She & Jerry were great together. At the time I met Jerry, he had already done 125 film scores. Now THAT'S a lot of great music, folks.
It's really 'sophie's choice' between giving Goldsmith his first and giving Herrmann one for Taxi Driver, esp considering Herrmann died the day they finished the recording session. Out of all those amazing scores, Herrmann got his oscar for the obscure The Devil and Daniel Webster in '41 (!). Still, much respect to Goldsmith.
It could just be me, but Jerry Goldsmith looked a LOT like Dustin Hoffman without the ponytail and glasses. Tee hee! Anyways, amazing composer... one Oscar is not enough for this talanted man.
Jerry Goldsmith looks like British actor Jon Pertwee! The latter was the third actor to play the lead character on Doctor Who. Gregory Peck was his usual, magnificent self in 'The Omen', and the rest of the cast was superb as well. The movie made me a David Warner fan for life; but Goldsmith's dominant score was the real star of the movie.
I must confess that I m not a big fan of the Omen's score ( and neither Planet of the apes'one ), but he is my favourite composer and it's very pleasant to see this marvellous artist at this - too rare - moment of consecration.
You can hear that the audience wanted Bernard Herrmann to win. There were audible claps for each of Herrmann's nominations. I think by that time, especially considering Herrmanns' recent death, the Hollywood community had realized, belatedly, that they had lost an irreplaceable musical giant. It's a pity he was nominated twice because that split the vote; otherwise he probably would have won, and deservedly so.
Didn't Mr Herrmann pass the prior year?makes me wonder if his two nominations muddied the water enough for Jerry Goldsmith to win,he should have won,no disrespect on my part,The Omen is an awesome score!
Jerry Goldsmith was the king of film music. He should've won more than 1 oscar.

Outstanding soundtrack. One of the best in history!
THE BEST! ❤
This was the time when Oscars actualy meant something.
he did so many beautiful scores .its a shame this was his only oscar win
You can clearly see Henry Mancini on the aisle seat in the row behind Jerry's.
He was such a great composer and a very nice man. His wife Carol was his perfect companion; they were like kids together.
Truly deserved! All subsequent horror-scores have been influeced by The Omen.
1977. Wow!!! Long time ago. Holy cow, Ann-Margret was so gorgeous back then and even in Grumpy Old Men too.
Did they have spray tanning in those days?
One of the best soundtracks of the 70s for sure!
Holy cow! All those she mentions are all great! Bernard Herrman's taxi driver was great too. Lalo Schifrin still is alive and kicking, who can forget his Dirty Harry theme?
Jerry Goldsmith should have gotten more than just one Oscar.
so so much deserved it crazy, he was nominated 18 times! The Omen is an magnum opus.
One Oscar out of---what??---18 nominations? Jerry should have had at least 5 of them on his mantle.
*At least* . . . The GOAT film scorer
The sentence "His ONLY Oscar" sounds so wrong!
It's a tragedy that he won only one oscar.
It was a great composer and movie legacy. I think this is one of the best scores. I love Mulan score too and I think he should win for Mulan too!!!
His score for Mulan is honestly one of the best scores I've heard

A well deserved Oscar at last for that man.
what a an actress so attractive!!!!!!
muy bien ganado el oscar esa cancion de jerry goldsmith si es terrorifica combinaba muy bien con la profecia buena banda sonora que le puso
The guy in the glasses at 0:32 is Paul Williams, whose song he wrote, "Evergreen", for Barbra Streisand won Best Song at that year's Oscars.
Ha, Jerry once said.."heck, its a slam dunk for Benny"
Carol, a former UCLA cheerleader, was very charming and very smart. She & Jerry were great together. At the time I met Jerry, he had already done 125 film scores. Now THAT'S a lot of great music, folks.
I like how someone claps when Taxi Driver is mentioned

He made an Oscar winning score for a good horror movie, and a good horror score for an abysmal horror movie, namely the Haunting

I saw Henry Mancini in the audience.
Jerry G, G for genius ..
Taxi Driver probably should have won.

Was John Pertwee (Dr Who) his brother?
cierto deberia haber ganado mas premios
@BozPictures He should've been nominated more.

His scores for the "Flint" films were amazing!
His wife is very pretty
Who is that lady?
Incredible score
His wife. Didn't you read?
agreee
at last ! ...
muxos masss
He should had won for Rudy
I guess I'm just bothered by the utter clueless-ness of Acadmey voters.
A contest is a stupid thing.
much better the "star trek soundtracks "
Ave satani!!!!
