      Not so. Read her bio and hear her speak. Very Dutch and the same humour😂 Born in Belgium, her Dutch mother took her to live with their relatives in Arnhem (ca.3-18y.) in the Netherlands Then on to London and Hollywood to become the only world-famous movie star the Netherlands has produced to this day🌷❤🌷

      I'm assuming they are a US sports team, and can't comment on them or their audience. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Audrey was European and in Europe it's considered classier to not boast about one's achievements. She would also have been mindful of the other contenders in the room who did not win.
      Whatever the reason, she would not have been Audrey had she started doing fist pumps and yelling "I'm the greatest!". She was always the epitome of class.

    The Oscars back then, to even attend and just be in the audience, was a true honor and everyone shows it. What a time to have thrived in humility and grace. Audrey was the peak of it all and the example to lead by.

      So true! Now it is very rare to have an award winner simply say 'thank you'. Those two words speak volumes of ones' character versus the winners who use the honour as a platform.
      Audrey was simply delightful in every way.

      Yep. I just visited one of the apartments where she grew up in Arnhem during WWII.
      Arnhem was a slaughterhouse during “a bridge too far” operation Market Garden.
      I’m about to order the book “Dutch Girl” which is supposed to be a fantastic biography of her life, particularly during those war years.

    I love Audrey's simple and heartfelt thank you, as opposed to actors today who have to name two dozen or more people to whom they are sooo grateful, almost as if they are reading from a script. Audrey's talent and heart show so clearly here.

    Miss Hepburn continues to be my favorite actress and I’m in my 7th decade. She also personified a woman of generosity when it came to her philanthropic work. I never tire of her films, even those she’s not particularly remembered for, as “The Unforgiven,” with Burt Lancaster. I’m a mother of 4, a grandmother and still have adoration and affection for this unique woman.

    Beautiful inside and out. They don't make movie stars like that anymore. Chic, self possessed, yet vulnerable. Billy Wilder put it well: 'Audrey was known for something which has disappeared, and that's elegance, grace and manners. God kissed her on the cheek, and there she was.'

Buddy Ebsen (later to star in the "Beverly Hillbillies") played her father! So picking a sophisticated cultured European actress like Audrey for that movie was definitely a surprise choice.

  • @MrImiller07

    Upon reflection, Hepburn should have received Oscar nominations for her performance in Cukor's "My Fair Lady", which was probably prevented by the backlash against casting Julie Andrews in the role, and for her role opposite Albert Finney in Donen's "Two For The Road".

    • @victoriaodegaard1
      @victoriaodegaard1 9 лет назад +8

      MrImiller07 Yeah... apparently the movie could win an Oscar but she couldn't... and considering she was the main character... that was stupid. Yes, at least a nomination, of course her voice was dubbed and Julie's voice has a better range but Audrey has the look I think

    • @sstavsky
      @sstavsky 6 лет назад +2

      Hepburn was nominated for "Wait Until Dark" the same year that "Two For the Road" came out. You can't be nominated in the same category twice in one year. (If "Two for the Road" had come out in a different year, she might have been nominated for that.)

    • @harmonymiller1211
      @harmonymiller1211 6 лет назад +6

      This win and her elegance made Audrey Hepburn a box office draw for the role of Eliza and the movie. While Julie Andrews may have played the role to excellent reviews on stage the studio did not want to take a chance on her when it came to a huge feature film like they had in mind for "My Fair Lady". I thought Audrey Hepburn did an amazing job in what was no doubt a grueling production. And I think they made the right call. I also think that the rivalry between the two women was largely fabricated to create drama (and therefore generated more publicity for the movie). What bothers me is that no role "belongs" to an actor or actress. While I loved her in this movie, If they ever remade "Roman Holiday" whoever the actress is that they get to play her role would bring her own charm and character to the role. I think Emma Watson could do it justice.

    • @charmedprince
      @charmedprince 6 лет назад +3
