    I got numbers 5, 6, 8, and 9 sentences correct! I began learning ASL from Meredith's online course last January 2020 and finished last August. This year, I'm reviewing each module again plus additional content on RUclips. The numbers are the most challenging, but I feel competent enough for basic conversation if I meet any Deaf speakers. Thank you for your hard work, Meredith!

    I really liked these sentences/examples and found I could actually understand some of them now! The different speeds helped greatly, as I am just a beginner and find regular fingerspelling very hard to follow. I am practicing every day and in various places, fingerspelling everything I see. I guess people wonder what I am doing, but I don’t care!

    I'm in my second semester of ASL with a professor who is deaf but grew up in a hearing house so she uses a lot of initialized signs and a lot of SEE/PSL signs. She doesn't realize that she's doing them or that there is a different ASL sign so we get confused a lot. My professor last semester was hearing and made it a point to teach us the true ASL signs so it's a little frustrating that now we are being taught the initialized signs for meals.

    • @ASLMeredith
      @ASLMeredith  4 года назад +2

      Hi Chelsey, yeah the initialized signs are pretty commonly used, though, so they're not purely SEE. Different people feel differently about them, though. Good to know both!

    You are great! But you are doing the same sign over-and-over again, just once or twice is good. Thx!

      Thanks for the feedback! Ultimately, everyone has different feelings about this. Some people LOVE the extra repetition, others want quicker. I try to please everyone, and it ends up varying across videos. I'll keep doing my best!

    The ASL translation is the best way for me to learn it. The English translation is what throws me off.

      Agreed! That's why I broke down the ASL separately in the email newsletter/PDF that accompanies this video :)

    It's like Hula...." keep your eyes on the hands ".

    • @ASLMeredith
      @ASLMeredith  5 лет назад

      Ah :) actually, keep your eyes on the eyes! Many beginners do think they need to look at the hands, but in signed conversation, eye contact is SO important!

    I think the "1 of the signs not being nice" is b**** . 😂 And it's because mom and girl is towards the mouth so the sign is to the side of the face for B**** . 😂

      This is a beginner-level video, and most of the video (from 5:18 onward) is spent on practice sentences that work with the accompanied PDF guide. If you wanted a short version, there's an under-4 minute video teaching the meal signs here: ruclips.net/video/S9Y2QeUrJeM/видео.html
