I loved the questions used for practice at the end. The format you used was also perfect, giving us a few chances and also slowing things down! Thanks again!
i tend to learn more when you do example sentences. i repeat the video before the voice over to understand on my own what you're signing. it's been really helpful because you're applying it in real life situations. Thank you so much Meredith! 🙏🏼😊
Wonderful! Love the sentence format. It is very helpful in training my brain to think in “ASL” rather than “English”. I will be going back to this to test my retention, improvement, and to refresh!
I got diagnosed with severe, bilateral Meniere's disease a year ago, and have lost most of my hearing FAST. These videos are so helpful! I love the sample sentences, because the word order and grammar is so different
So glad I found you during this work from home time! I will finally be able to communicate with one of my students w/o help from my signing staff. Thanks so much!
I've studied ASL with different teachers and Meredith is one of the best out there. Her pace is helpful and she educates you on different ways of expressing the same idea.
So a friend and I have been using Meredith ASL to teach our selves sign language. Our days are Monday, so night at 7 pm. Very helpful I must say as there are so many lessons to follow. Tonight, our lessons is signs and SENTENCES about Meals in American Sign Languag. Thank you, Meredith. These lessons are so helpful as I am hearing impaired.
Hi Shelby, thank you for your kind message! I'm so glad you find these videos helpful for learning at a pace that works for you. Keep up the good work!
I absolutely love your videos as a new asl-interpreter student I love to practice with your videos. I appreciate your thoroughness when showing the signs from different angles. Thank you! 💕
I got numbers 5, 6, 8, and 9 sentences correct! I began learning ASL from Meredith's online course last January 2020 and finished last August. This year, I'm reviewing each module again plus additional content on RUclips. The numbers are the most challenging, but I feel competent enough for basic conversation if I meet any Deaf speakers. Thank you for your hard work, Meredith!
Hey, Meredith! This is one of your best videos for beginners like me! Regular speed, half speed, and beginner with audio is a great reinforcement system! Ful sentences are so useful! Please consider using this format again! Mazel tov! Bernie.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm very blessed to find you as a teacher ❤️ because I've learned so much with you I appreciate your patience with us the new learners like me and I'm learning ASL because I have a deaf daughter. You are so beautiful woman I'm not lesbian I just wanted say it Thank you.
I really liked this one. I like the way you broke it down in the 3 speeds, that was really helpful! Saves me from rewinding and stopping all the time. I realize it must mean some more work on your part, so thanks for doing that for us! 🤟
Hi Jake, thank you so much for this encouraging feedback!! I'm so glad you enjoyed learning from this format. Yes, it's a bit more time-intensive, so it helps to know that it's worth it. I appreciate you letting me know - and I'll aim to do more like this!
I just started learning ASL by watching your videos this week. I love your practice sentences. I'm so excited when I understand part or all of a sentence after just a few days 😊 Some of them have some vocabulary words I haven't come across yet, so I rewatch and add more vocabulary to my brain, so win-win!!! Thank you!
Hi Lynette, thank you for sharing!! I'm so gld you find these videos useful as a beginner and these practice sentences to see how you've improved already! Keep up the great work !!
Thank you for the encouraging feedback! So glad you found this video and its sentences useful. Be sure to grab the free PDF for sentence structure explanations! :)
Very helpful! I did understand a few of the simpler sentences but it's very surprising I'm learning so fast. Mostly through this channel but a few others too
LOVED this video! Grammar and ASL sentance structure is where I struggle the most right now, and this was very helpful. I would love more videos like this please!
The sentences are great. I'm really trying to work on getting used to the normal speed. Having those three speeds for the sentences really helps me develop that skill.
This was very helpful, as usual, and I'm looking forward in asking people what they want or what did they eat for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner. Favorite foods for the three...etc. Thanks Meredith!! Great vid!!
I really liked these sentences/examples and found I could actually understand some of them now! The different speeds helped greatly, as I am just a beginner and find regular fingerspelling very hard to follow. I am practicing every day and in various places, fingerspelling everything I see. I guess people wonder what I am doing, but I don’t care!
Awesome, Ruth!! Way to go! I'm so glad you're finding progress in understanding these signs annd sentences. Fingerspelling definitely takes extra practice and exposure! Keep at it !!
meredith!!! i really appreciate your videos so much. many of the videos that i find on yt for asl in particular contain helpful ways to learn certain words, sentences, etc. but they don't always have any sound (which i understand and perhaps it would be disrespectful to do so?) or don't include subtitles and as a beginner it is hard to learn without them. thank you so much for your videos!! 😣♥️ stay safe. learning plenty from you
Hi meredith. i like your vid very well and is very helpful. in the minute 7:34 at the end of the sentence .you repeated the I again when you already said it in the begining and it sounds confused.well done anyway.i want to learn this lenguage too.it is very interesting. greetings !
I loved the example sentences! Please do more! Also, have you done any food measuring videos, such as cup of sugar, 1/2 tsp, etc....? I am unable to find any ASL cooking recipes videos. Thank you!
Wow you have a lot of experience in sign language , I took only one class in linguistics, it was HARD it was called the linguistics of American Sign Language 😖
Hello Meredith, Did you make any video on fruits and vegetables? If yes then could you please send me the link? I'm taking ASL classes right now. I learned a lot more from your videos than in my class. Thank you for making these videos!!!
I'm in my second semester of ASL with a professor who is deaf but grew up in a hearing house so she uses a lot of initialized signs and a lot of SEE/PSL signs. She doesn't realize that she's doing them or that there is a different ASL sign so we get confused a lot. My professor last semester was hearing and made it a point to teach us the true ASL signs so it's a little frustrating that now we are being taught the initialized signs for meals.
Hi Chelsey, yeah the initialized signs are pretty commonly used, though, so they're not purely SEE. Different people feel differently about them, though. Good to know both!
i got alittle bit of each sentence but some of it i didnt get but my job coach from seacoast mental health and voc rehab they might be helping me to go school so i can be come a asl interpreter so watching your videos and others on repeat so i can learn it good for me to watch someone else sign as well like you did in this video cuz it kinda gave me a test on what i remember. i'll be doing the schooling online and then working from home. i'm disabled and not able to get out.
Yes I liked the questions? Your style for teaching is great with different angles and speed are super helpful. (I'm a very beginner so never get them on first try but play them over and over u till I get them 🤓) Would u please tell me what that word was after snack pack and take. I played over and over but still couldn't catch it. Thank u
Hi there! Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you like this format. The word after SNACK PACK and TAKE is "IMPORTANT" :) get the full explanation of all signs and grammar from this video at aslmeredith.com/meals -- it may help!
