I bought a X100T when they first came out in 2014 or so. Still my favorite camera, and I have about ten cameras in my collection. I am not into upgrading, I want fewer features, not more of them. Old film shooter here. I give huge props to Leica for keeping things simple.

ahhhhh- Memories..... Benj- thank you- I have had my 100V for a year too... and your trip there brought back memories- summer of 1975 (yea, I am that old) 3 high school mates and me headed up from San Francisco- camping along the Pacific Northwest... using my Chevy Blazer- northern most spot- Pacific Rim National Park- took the ferry from Port Angeles to Nanaimo...... and west we drove- 4- 18 year olds...... what I remember most was the nights at the camp site- just next to the beach- and the vast darkness and the stars- stars all over the place- so bright and beautiful..... and walking the beach as it was raining (what a surprise!)..... and all the large trees (logs) strewn about- "so prehistoric looking......"..... your one shot of the downed trees in the ravine brought back those memories- and Mushrooms- we had mushrooms too..... although not the ones you forage for..... hmmmmmm.... and the ferry ride- so much fun (the calmness of the water)....- oh- your shots were outstanding- maybe you can expand on your settings next time- I love the simplicity of the X100v- sometimes I go all -Auto,- and sometimes - iso auto.... and adjust- love to get some idea of how you shot it up there.... anyway- thank you so much for providing me a Very Happy Flashback!.... cheers from San Francisco

I love the photos you’ve taken with the X100V but even more special is the story of getting together with family after a long enforced separation. Recent times have been so strange for us all.
My family recently got together and my son was able to meet his new niece which was particularly strange as he hadn’t even seen his sister pregnant.

Mad props for correct pronunciation of Ucluelet, some of the indigenous names can be harder for people to say. Yes, I have a trip to Australia coming up in a year or so with the family for a friends wedding, and I am torn between bringing a bag of Leica M and a mirrorless camera to use those lenses on, or just bringing an X100V and Rollei 35, just going super lightweight.

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  3 года назад +4

Ah nice! Haha, I mean my brother lives there so I’ve only heard it pronounced one way even though everyone just says Ukee. And yeah, sometimes bringing too much gear is just the paradox of choice and diminishes my creativity.

I visited Venice (Italy) this fall and spent literally days, wether to bring my GFX50R, X-H1, both or just my X100V. With some concerns I decided for the X100V and had no complaints at all, concidering the light weight! GRiiix sounds tempting, but no articulating screen, no viewfinder and that terrible shutter sound 🤭

Not quite X100V related but before getting my X100F, I traveled to Montreal with a Lumix G7 with 17mm and 25mm (35 and 50 equivalent) lenses. The one I used the most was the 17mm, which is close to the focal length of the X100 series. So it makes sense to only take my X100F on future trips.

@@mahdiali6732 i like them both for different reasons but if I could only have one it would be the Fuji X100 V. The Ricoh is a lot smaller but I find the controls on the Fuji easier to operate and I like the flip up screen. It makes it easier to take photos with the camera at low angles. The Fuji is also capable of doing amazing 4k video. There is no image stabilization so it would be best to use it on a tripod or a gimbal when doing video.

It's probably heresy for me to admit it, but as a Fujifilm shooter, I don't really understand the X100 series *unless* you don't already shoot Fujifilm (I totally get it if you're not a Fuji shooter). The X100V is only a marginally smaller than my XT3. If I bring the X100V with me, I either have to sling it around my shoulder or carry it in a small bag; the same is true if I bring my XT3 and a compact prime lens. The X100 series thus doesn't save me anything substantial in size and weight. For me, the Fujifilm X70 or Ricoh GR series are actual game-changers in the size & weight they save you. This is the end of my heretical rant.

Great images and review. I like what everyone gets from this camera but I can't tell if it's duplicative versus a Canon mirrorless and lightweight lenses. I have a bag of R6's and thought the lightweight 35 and 85 Macros would get us close this easy of use and shooting. No? You have an R6 ... does the x100 interface put you more at ease settling into family moments? Starts up faster? Better EVF? optical finder? What's the zen? We have a few big family adventures coming up and I thought I'd do 35L II + adaptor and the 85 ƒ2 macro (stuff on hand). Could cut it down with a borrowed 35 Macro. Thoughts?

Benj, will you ever review Leica Q2? There are a lot of comparison videos between Fuji X100V and Leica Q2 and I would love to know your opinion on this. Cheers

Yeah! I have a loaner on the way! I've wanted to get my hands on one for a LONG time now as well, just needed to keep building the channel to get the right connections ;)

I am an enthusiast that does some second shooting on the side and love photography to the point that I’d want to do it full time. I have the R5 + 50 1.2 and about 8 SLR film cameras. This x100v looks like such a lovely pocketable camera. Sometimes I just want to carry something small but I’m trying to see if this is a necessary purchase. What would you say, does the fuji have a place?

Absolutely. It's a gold mine for just the personal edc camera.

I’d say that even picking one up on the secondary market would still be worthwhile. They honestly made all of the improvements I’d been waiting years for.

Have you ever shot with the Leica Q2? Maybe it's not apples to apples, but was curious for your opinion. I have the funds for the Leica, but do like the X100 series and want to pick up another "personal" camera again. I really enjoyed the X100F and probably should have never sold it.

For an everyday camera, the X100 is still too large. When Ricoh announced their Ricoh GR IIIx with a 40mm equivalent focal length I thought about either the GR or the X100 which on paper offers much more. But I cannot pocket the X100. So it'll stay home most of the time - like all the other cameras I have in that form factor. I bought the GR IIIx, with no regrets. Image quality is amazing and the camera - an APSC camera with a 26mm f2.8 lens, image stabilization - literally fits into the palm of your hand. You can hide that camera inside your hand. It slides into the pockets of my pants. There is no hurdle of ALWAYS having it on you.

Yeah, I get that, the Ricoh just doesn't so enough in the experience level for me, so I'm fine with jumping from the iPhone to the X100V in size and choosing one or the other.

Do you prefer the X100V or an XE4 with your favorite prime lens if you can only bring one camera?

If I HAD to choose one, X100V. But I do love the X-E4 and 18/2 combo

No EVF, f/2.8 instead of f/2, internal NDs in the X100V. The Ricoh seems like a great camera, but I prefer the X100V
