What're you talking about? You're generalizing the entire Dominican Republic by the part of it your ex-wife took you? Not to mention that it was probably a while ago. Tourism is not the main industry there, and in those tourist areas, most of the vendors are Haitian migrants trying to make a quick buck. Maybe learn about what we're dealing with the massive influx of Haitian migrants before you speak. Most people working in the streets are Haitian. Again, the sex industry is almost exclusive to a certain area of DR, so why are you generalizing? Did you go to Santo Domingo? Santiago? Salcedo? San Cristobal? Puerto Plata? Most rent prices in Santo Domingo are well above $1,200 a month, not to mention to buy groceries for a small family right now you're looking at more than $300 dollars. D.R. has a very robust economy and the amount of growth I've seen there is mind-blowing as a Dominican myself. Houses in places like Arroyo Hondo and even in a small town like Haina in San Cristobal will run more than $300,000 dollars so again, what're you talking about?

3:33 This is the only reason that's stopping me from moving somewhere like DR. I'm too used to living in Asia. Can walk around wearing whatever I like. Never felt unsafe even once. Even in "bad" neighbourhoods.
I think living in the USA put negativity in people mind about other country if it's not them, a Third World country is mostly used in terms of political right and civil liberties which can also include Press freedom and in Dominica some persons maybe poor, but it's only considered third country to most East and western big counties.
I agree with this comment regarding the title or phase of Dominican republic is a third world country is incorrectly used by American blacks or latinos not clearly understanding the derogatory reference to a black country. Please stop using such racist status of a country you really don't live in every aspect of daily living.
What a great, down-to-earth and realistic review of life in the Dominican Republic. I'm not sure where you live in DR, obviously not in the capital, but you've explained it perfectly!!! I'm playing with the idea of going back to live there in a few years. We shall see.
I love DR. Plan on having a second home there just to escape the insanity and consumption craziness in USA and get back more humble, calm , appreciate more things…. Being there makes me a better person. Amazing beaches help too ;)
I’m trying to think of ways to what type of work and hustle I can do there cause money won’t be no problem if I cash out which will double once cashing in in DR wew it’s tough!!
DR...I'm looking to be there about 4-5months, my wife is Dominican, lots of her family there so we have some support...I work remotely from home since the pandemic started 2020...i've been to the DR 5 times, so I have a good idea already what to expect...good video, good information, like your content
Safety... I did not feel safe... Before boarding the plane. And our arrival was at midnight... I heard so many people telling me this crazy stories... I even wanted to spend the night in Panama city and take a day flight to Santo Domingo... I was like the taxi driver might take us to his neighborhood and have his people to rob us... Well after just a few day I felt perfectly safe
Those late night flights are sketchy, but it's mostly in our minds. Large groups of very loud people do that, lol. Been to DR many times and zero issues so far. Like you said, the initial view is scary, but after a day or two, it becomes normal.
aaaan, I've been to the DR like 5 or 6 times. I love it there. Cabarete was my fav place to stay. The motorcycles/scooters are everywhere, weaving in & out of traffic. You better know how to drive and keep your head on a swivel. However, Dominican are talented drivers. I saw a man on a bike and a woman sitting behind him carrying a table and chair....all while riding the bike.
Thank you for your honest opinion on D.R. Think you hit the nail on the head, by the way am from D.R. myself but raise in New York City thank you for the information
I just came back from Las Terrnas, I fell in love with the DR. Looking to now buy a house there. I felt safe and had an amazing time, made a bunch of connections & relationships.
Excellent commentary, Tommy. Sounds like a really nice place if you don't have real high economic expectations, which I don't. I imagine food is even cheaper if you do most of your shopping at open air markets rather than grocery stores. One question I have, is the water safe to drink without boiling or something? It's really nice if it is, makes life a lot simpler.
The Dominican Republic has the best economy in the Caribbean and Central America , the Dr offers safety and modern cities like Santo Domingo which is like Miami 5.0 for sure and you have Santiago , any type of scenery you’re looking for from tourist towns to big cities with modern day conveniences , mountain towns etc it’s perfect for young people to live and invest and many people speak English !! The Dr is booming right now !!
Visited about a month ago. Service employs were awesome. Hard working and friendly. Management, retail and anyone near tourist areas were aggressively putting on the hustle and were nasty if you did not buy into it. The high end tourist areas are ruining everything. And still not paying the workers.
I have a beautiful, nice villa in a great and safe area in Punta Cana. My final price is 250K. It is 4 bedrooms with 1300 sqft. Very independent. Close to any great thing that you can think of.
Great video. The only thing I would change is mechanics are big scam artist in the Dominican Republic. One tried to charge me $300 for a service and I kept saying no and the price came down all the way to 120. I just left because I was disgusted with him.but that’s pretty much everyone who offers a service in DR. Don’t believe it come visit. I’m here now. The only other thing I would change is cost-of-living here is not cheap. It’s not cheap if you want to keep the same lifestyle as in the US. Currently I pay $1500 a month for rent and it’s a small 700 square-foot condo in the Best area. What this RUclipsr is talking about as far as paying $400 or less, that’s not happening in Santo Domingo unless you’re in one of the barrios. Trust me you don’t wanna pay $400 or less in Santo Domingo district national. It’s actually almost impossible. You can pay that in Villa Juana, or Gualey. 😂 They pay $100 a month. I pay over $3500 per month to maintain my lifestyle. It was cheaper for me in the US. But here, like Tommy said, to have a same lifestyle is considered premium, and you will pay more than in the US. Oh, one other thing. When Tommy says food is cheap here, I promise you he’s only talking about going to the grocery store. And it’s not every grocery store. It’s the cheap ones like Jumbo. Because National supermercado is expensive. And Tommy is definitely not talking about eating at five star restaurants because they cost the same or more expensive than in the US.😂
If you pay 3500 monthly clearly you are renting a large mansion. So food prices shouldn't even be a concert if you throwing that money at rent ? That's nuts
I found restaurants kinda expensive. Prices similar to the U.S., but then you have 18% sales tax and very often 20% service fee. On top of it they expect a tip.
Mr Bryson Great job on those points , hope every one understand you . Just clarifications Electricity isn’t the cheapest depend on Gas or any another fossil which is high like you mentioned on gasoline . Overall great job
We were in Punta Cana yesterday. Around 7am I saw tons of construction workers by the sides of the roads. Are they waiting for buses to take them to their work sites or waiting to be chosen to work that day? Some had their own hard hats, safety vets, & tools like levels and pick axes.
Oops! Very goods advises Bro! Im American, and ive had the privilege to live in both Dominican Republic (La Vega, la capital) and Puerto Rico (Bayamon) and i can say from my experience, PR is much safer than DR, due to the fact that DR is a much poorer country with less resources and opportunity than PR, the chances of getting mugged for your wallet, watch, phone, sneakers is much higher in Dominican Republic. In PR i feel safe walking around at any time, even late at night and ive never been bothered once. Of course, both nations have crimes and dangerous areas, but mostly all killings and violence happens between local gangs and are personal between one another, and not random. Service in DR or PR is not as good as the USA, but, service in general in PR is much better (faster, more reliable, less hassle) than DR, i always felt that nothing really seemed to work properly in DR (power outages "se fue la luz", corrupt police and government, everything is a mess, almost feels like your im Africa lol), on the other hand, PR is quite the opposite. Electricity bills in DR is outrages at times, and the darn electricity goes out for hours without notice, then you end up spending extra on a "planta" (generator) to keep your lights on. Dominican Republic is much cheaper than PR, but quality of life is way inferior than USA or PR. Just about everyone in DR will scam you if your American and shake you like if you are a tree full of dollars instead of leaves. Personally in PR i felt much more at ease, im just as American as them boricuas. I lived in DR for 8 years during my teenage years because my parents were missionaries, and I went to a christian bilingual school in the Capital, and my dad was a pastor in a church in La Vega. I lived in PR for 5 years during my college years, graduated in business management from UPR in Bayamon. My 2 cents from experience 🙃 Oh and by the way, DR has the best ice cream (helados Bon, que buenos son!) Also, the mermelada (marmalade) is the best, wayy better than Smuckers lol
DR is not poorer than PR lol. Maybe there is more institutionality in PR because of the American influence and the police actually do their job but DR is not poorer buddy.
Great work, Tommy. Just want to clear something with you. DR Is a peninsula, not an island. It shares one of its borders with Haiti. Both comprise the island called Hispañola.
I have decided to move back to DR as well, I haven’t lived there since I was 6, I’m 22 now. I’m from Samana. The driving out there is so true 😂 I’m glad I will have my mom and her man drive me around bc she doesn’t even want me to drive there plus I don’t plane on being outside all that much anyways
Lol 😂 you have the “wealth” healthy glow… how u blend in 💭 I try that in California… 😅and my family lives there and they can tell I don’t live there … everywhere I go with them the farmers markets etc. maybe it’s the sloooow living lifestyle for me.
I am also from Dominican Republic. I was born in Dominican Republic and came to the United States when I was just one years old since it was my parents idea and I’m rude to New York when I was three years old and came back when I was three and then I set up a life here and learn English and now I will take years old. I know fully English and I do not have an accent since I worked on that one I would like at least seven years old and now I’m here.
The 10$ dollars are actually a fee that people with USA passport have to pay.. it’s like a foreign fee. I believe that only lasted about 1 year and then it was removed..
Yes cash is king outside of the USA, yes yes yes, Dominicans and Colombians in particular love cash. Even if the take credit cards , they will tell you that they prefer cash all the time.
I believe the DR has potential to become one of the largest economies in latin america. People are very warm and hospitable. What do i need to do if i wanna land a job as a canadian expat?
Hey Tommy, thank you for the video. I’m trying to move to the Dominican Republic while earning American money. I’m a US citizen so I think it wouldn’t be too difficult however I don’t know much about this. I don’t have a degree by the way. Do you have any advice?

Shout out from CHICAGO-KANKAKEE, IL, USA! Thanks for this informative video! Amen-RA!
Moved to Dr Sep 8 2021, in Bonao. Love it here!! Born and raised in NY. But my nationally is from Here.
3:33 This is the only reason that's stopping me from moving somewhere like DR. I'm too used to living in Asia. Can walk around wearing whatever I like. Never felt unsafe even once. Even in "bad" neighbourhoods.
Going to the DR for two weeks in August! Thank you for making content I’ve followed you for years.
New subscriber here. Watching from Barbados🇧🇧
I left DR at 23. Sorry not going back. I been in the states 10 years. DR never changes, I had a hope that my beautiful country gets better but NO.
Too bad broo
I will take your lands on your behalf then and make it a better place. Will charge you high price when you come visit
@@nesq4104 🤣🤣🤣 that is what is happening in Puerto rico
@@jcwatts5000 I live in PR now. Everyone I'm the world wants what PR and DR are has except the natives. Shame
I would disagree. The country has improved but still has a lot to go.
What a great, down-to-earth and realistic review of life in the Dominican Republic. I'm not sure where you live in DR, obviously not in the capital, but you've explained it perfectly!!! I'm playing with the idea of going back to live there in a few years. We shall see.
Keep making DR videos!
I love visiting DR it left me a “I miss DR” when I got home back in Atl.. I love it and we coming back this week
I love DR. Plan on having a second home there just to escape the insanity and consumption craziness in USA and get back more humble, calm , appreciate more things…. Being there makes me a better person. Amazing beaches help too ;)
Likewise
I’m trying to think of ways to what type of work and hustle I can do there cause money won’t be no problem if I cash out which will double once cashing in in DR wew it’s tough!!
I love my county too🇩🇴😃
DR...I'm looking to be there about 4-5months, my wife is Dominican, lots of her family there so we have some support...I work remotely from home since the pandemic started 2020...i've been to the DR 5 times, so I have a good idea already what to expect...good video, good information, like your content
Thanks brother 🙏
DR!!! totally agree. we have a place in la romana and the bang for your buck is real! thanks tommy
And Sosua but obviously for different reasons.
Very good information. My trip to the Dom Rep is next month. I feel much better now that I have seen your video.
Loved this video sir.. Very informative.. Getting things in order for my transition. Thank you much
Thanks so much for such a good advice!!
Love the channel! 🇩🇴
Yo soy Boricua and approve your message! Lol. Very seriously considering moving to RD! 💕
Glad to see you are already living here be safe and enjoy, la mejor temporada para estar aqui en tu pais 😁
I enjoyed your information I am looking forward to coming over in a few months thanks for the info
I always flight at night. I don't have any bad experience yet
DR - Greatly appreciate your video. Looking to move there in a few years.
aaaan, I've been to the DR like 5 or 6 times.
Very true. Love your content. See you soon brother
Thank you for your honest opinion on D.R. Think you hit the nail on the head, by the way am from D.R. myself but
raise in New York City thank you for the information
I feel like scams are just getting worse smh 🤦♂️
Really? That's unfortunate. Do you live there now and know first hand?
Myself I love coming to the Dominican Republic. I usually travel to Sant Domingo. Good video. Very informative.
I just came back from Las Terrnas, I fell in love with the DR. Looking to now buy a house there. I felt safe and had an amazing time, made a bunch of connections & relationships.
thanks for sharing I might be relocating to DR after the new year.
I felt exhausted just listening to this guy.
Water from the faucet is not safe to drink. We buy 5 gallon water jugs for less than a dollar
Santigo is getting so expensive! The houses in Santo Domingo are literally at California prices!
Miami 5.0 😂😂😂😂😂😂 biggest joke of the year
I spent 2 weeks in Santo Domingo piatini next to the malls. Very few people speak English, hardly none. Learn spanish for a better trip there.
Thanks for your thoughts will be in Cap Cana 3/22/2023. And as you requested DR !
Love the DR man I go there every 6 months would love to live there one day great video
Visited about a month ago. Service employs were awesome. Hard working and friendly. Management, retail and anyone near tourist areas were aggressively putting on the hustle and were nasty if you did not buy into it. The high end tourist areas are ruining everything. And still not paying the workers.
As for the language... Google translate was my best friend
the alchemist - one of the best books ever made!
I would like to slow travel 2-3 months in DR, that's on my list. As long as you can get good internet and digital nomad.
I have a beautiful, nice villa in a great and safe area in Punta Cana. My final price is 250K. It is 4 bedrooms with 1300 sqft. Very independent. Close to any great thing that you can think of.
Definitely thinking about getting an Airbnb for a few months and test it out but I have to get my Spanish down first
Nice content , i would love to learn more.
Hi Tommy,
Thank you so much for this video, and all the helpful information. Do you mind if I ask which part of DR you live in?
Mr Bryson
Great job on those points , hope every one understand you . Just clarifications Electricity isn’t the cheapest depend on Gas or any another fossil which is high like you mentioned on gasoline . Overall great job
Thanks and it’s relative to what people are use to paying for sure
D.R!
Great video hermano
We were in Punta Cana yesterday. Around 7am I saw tons of construction workers by the sides of the roads. Are they waiting for buses to take them to their work sites or waiting to be chosen to work that day? Some had their own hard hats, safety vets, & tools like levels and pick axes.
Oops! Very goods advises Bro! I haven't been at DR in 30 Years and I'm planning coming over for at least 10 days to staying at the city,But I won't be able to going around by myself cause I wouldn't known where to go,I'll be afraid as hell by myself,I meant city is totally different now, it looks like NYC with towers all around!😂🤣😅
My 2 cents from experience 🙃
Oh and by the way, DR has the best ice cream (helados Bon, que buenos son!) Also, the mermelada (marmalade) is the best, wayy better than Smuckers lol
DR is not poorer than PR lol. Maybe there is more institutionality in PR because of the American influence and the police actually do their job but DR is not poorer buddy.
Dominican Republic is very different now. You don’t know what are you talking about. 😂
You are correct in everything u said.
Nice video , best island for social life , always something going on 😅.
Solid vid. Plan on renting/selling my house in the states and moving to the DR. I was thinking Los Torranos
Great work, Tommy. Just want to clear something with you. DR Is a peninsula, not an island. It shares one of its borders with Haiti. Both comprise the island called Hispañola.
It is actually an island shared with Haiti
The DR isn't a peninsula, samana can be a peninsula but not the whole country.
@@ondemandaquaworkouts he is trying to say DR is not an island. The island is Hispaniola and it’s comprised of Haiti and DR
What? Damn Island
DR IS ON A ISLAND AND SO DO HAITI[in my ric flair voice]
DR! Great info!
Plan*
Great video, full of useful info. !!
DR loved the video!
Nice presentation --(DR) how much gasoline? How is the broadband? Do you have cable? How is the economy? Cell service good?
Everything in DR is better than American.
Wrong Dominican republic is not a third world country. It is a developing country
Are you sure?
Developing country, third world is the same
Lol 😂 you have the “wealth” healthy glow… how u blend in 💭 I try that in California… 😅and my family lives there and they can tell I don’t live there … everywhere I go with them the farmers markets etc. maybe it’s the sloooow living lifestyle for me.
I like slow also
I am also from Dominican Republic.
6:01 man we was only ppl at the place to eat near airport in Punta Cana they took forever
Thank you, brother
Got you 😎
Great info. Thanks for sharing
You explain that so well I’m ptoud😊
The 10$ dollars are actually a fee that people with USA passport have to pay.. it’s like a foreign fee. I believe that only lasted about 1 year and then it was removed..
I was there last year. They did not charge me any fee at the airport.
I heard it’s automatically included in the flight price
Hi I'm also Dominican but have never been to las Terrenas, Samana . Do you recommend an air B&B there?
Great overview and it's okay to say county as it's a country even though it's an island 😊
Lol thanks
How much is a house there? I been there years ago and loved it❤
Same as US you can find a home for $100k to 500k or even higher
Yes cash is king outside of the USA, yes yes yes, Dominicans and Colombians in particular love cash. Even if the take credit cards , they will tell you that they prefer cash all the time.
Nice video, very accurate
J rello is becoming a living legend.😂🎉
DR is an island but it’s also recognized as a country!
Thanks for you information 😅
I believe the DR has potential to become one of the largest economies in latin america. People are very warm and hospitable.
What do i need to do if i wanna land a job as a canadian expat?
Hi, great video. What about healthcare in DR?
Hey Tommy, thank you for the video. I’m trying to move to the Dominican Republic while earning American money. I’m a US citizen so I think it wouldn’t be too difficult however I don’t know much about this. I don’t have a degree by the way. Do you have any advice?
I would take and airbnb and see how like it, and stay for about 2-3 months. Is your job remote ?
@@TommyBryson Hey Tommy! Thank you for your reply. I don’t have remote work as of now but I’m looking for something remote not requiring a degree. I really appreciate you communicating with me.
Yes sirrrrrrr We was in san francisco de marcios The man put a piece of Card board over the windshield😅😅😅😅.. my wife is from that city... She said we gotta tip him.😊😊😊
I’m wondering why you didn’t mention that there are brown outs and black outs with the electricity and the water can be short sometimes. Has this changed recently?
Service is spectacular. JAJAJA . Service is not a priority in the DR
Great review 👍
