    I love how all these stages aren't just random places. Not only they're old, familiar places, they're also telling us a story. Back in AoF2 Yuri worked as a part-timer on this fitness club, and now she owns the whole place.

      Another possibility is that this place is more or less replacing the Sakazaki dojo as Marco and other karate students are there. It could be that Yuri wanted to have a different place to preserve the Kyokugen karate practice... but in her own way, which doesnt follow the traditional style of the original dojo business.

    Another thing on the wall I noticed is an ice cream cone. I think this is related to The Great Ice Cream Salesman mentioned by Andy Board in Fatal Fury 3. Could be a clue that The Great Ice Cream Salesman will finally be a playable character in City of the Wolves! 🍨🍧🍦

    Funny that the FF/AOF timeline actually moves in real time. Where characters get older as time goes by.
    Unlike the KoF timeline, where they’re a floating timeline like South Park/Simpson’s. Time around them moves and technology advances, but they never age. Which makes the story less interesting.

    • @IrishKyokushin
      @IrishKyokushin 26 дней назад

      I wouldn't be surprised if they compress the AOF/FF timeline to keep the characters in their prime. Plus how they consider Ryo and Terry contemporaries I wouldn't be surprised if they're made to be around the same age.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      I started liking the comparison to DBZ's decision of making Goku and Vegeta not age further from a certain point, thanks to a random saiyan race rule made by Toriyama that pretty much just seems to exist for the story writing convenience. Though the decision of aging Goku to the adult mark was already brave and risky enough for that time, maybe he didnt want to take more and bigger risks.
      So as KOF became an instant hit and a promising new franchise, SNK probably decided to burrow the same "pure saiyan" logic for the sake of KOF's safe long term continuity. Just use everyone young and never aging no matter how long the franchise goes. So yeah, the KOF roster is like a pure saiyan... and sometimes Athena and Yuri seem to age backwards depending on the designer decision in certain sequels.
      After all, KOF was conceived in the early-sh 90s and probably it was truly hard to anticipate the community's reaction to the chars aging. Like, only Garou MOTW in the very late 90s proved that the community actually loves to see the hero aging to that point. Before that it was understandably seen as a big risk, since that was a rare decision in the 90s fg scene. Only Capcom's SF3 had a time skip, and even so the returning chars barely look older.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      Another interesting implication of that FF story direction is that the MOTW time skip might have killed some classic FF chars who were already old, or made some of them too out of shape to stay fighting, or even ended the motivation of some ones. So that can make a FF fan really curious and looking foward to what is going on with the chars in this new game.
      Meanwhile KOF has all FF and AOF chars together in their young and prime forms, and they coexist with the MOTW chars, and Geese and Tung are alive... and to make it even better/worse, they all coexist with Samsho chars in KOF 15, and with Buriki One chars and Savage Reign chars in KOF 11.

    Ryo should be around 51 by this current timeline so Yuri should be about 47 now. Its so cool to see everyone age up and time is flowing with this timeline. Can't wait for this game!

    • @IrishKyokushin
      @IrishKyokushin 26 дней назад

      Honestly I'm expecting a soft reboot for this and the next AOF game. I'm expecting them to compress the AOF/FF timeline to make them around the same age [or slightly older] as they are in the KOF timeline. I guess we won't know for sure until we see Ryo in this game [either as DLC or in a cutscene]

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      KOF is a completely separete universe that has its own rules and has total control over the small elements taken from other franchises (FF, AOF, etc), so that universe decided to either totally freeze or just slow down the effects of aging on the chars. But the world of FF-AOF has different, more realistic rules, and it provides actual character development for those FF chars, and effects of time and aging, consistent lore logic, etc.
      So Terry and all classic FF chars are older in this MOTW timeline, and since AOF happens years before the events of classic FF, then those AOF chars are supposed to be much older in this timeline.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      @@IrishKyokushinI like the implication of old AOF chars in this MOTW/future timeline and dont want that changed. Maybe what could happen (and it seems pretty likely) is retconning some dates and ages just to avoid having the AOF chars too old. Because if FF COTW is successful and SNK gets interested in making (story) sequels, then things will keep moving from here on, and the MOTW/future timeline will be the "standard FF story"... like the time skip arc in any anime.
      But i dont want the AOF chars' age retconned and brought down so much to a point that matches the same age of the main classic FF chars like Terry, Andy, Joe, Kim, etc... Just a small age drop. Also that decision of keeping them older automatically helps to highlight and distinguish FF's story direction and lore consistency compared to KOF's approach, that chose to keep everyone in their young forms for the sake of convenience. Keeping the two games different in that aspect is important to me.

    • @IrishKyokushin

      As long as it's something original. The constant money troubles in KOF games have long run their course. It needs to be something different.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      @@IrishKyokushin True. But since FF is a separate universe i guess there is little to fear, i mean being afraid of FF becoming influenced by KOF's own ideas about the AOF main chars.
      Also, and this is important: Oda made the original MOTW, which elevated the narrative maturity of the franchise. So the FF franchise (or specifically the MOTW chapter) is fortunate to have its original mastermind back in the company. It's different from when a franchise has changes of directors over time and then a new dev has a chance of ruining some things, for lacking the vision of the original dev.
      The fact that Oda is the responsible for conceiving this sequel has a lot of weight. Because MOTW, unlike KOF, doesnt disrespect the image of Kyokugen chars blatantly. And in the FF universe, before Oda got in, Ryo was already seen as powerful fighter. He is not ridiculed like in KOF.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      @@IrishKyokushin And ok, it's a fact that Oda made KOF 14 and 15, that continued making fun of Ryo like the older titles... but to be totally fair, that must have been just him following the KOF "story rules". Like, KOF wasnt conceived by him, he just came recently to take care of it, and must have followed the known pattern with AOF chars in the franchise. But MOTW is a more personal creation for him, so there are solid chances that his approach with Kyokugen chars wont be the same, because in his own game he isnt forced to take anything from KOF.

    Mr. Karate II or (二に代だい目めMrミスター.カラテ, lit. The Second Mr. Karate) is an alias for Ryo Sakazaki, the central character in the Art of Fighting series. He inherited the mantle from the previous Mr. Karate and is usually referred to as "Mr. Karate" in his earlier appearances. He also sports a tengu mask for most of his alternate outfits.
    After the events of the Art of Fighting series, Takuma Sakazaki retires from the fighting scene and Ryo takes the identity of Mr. Karate. This new Mr. Karate travels the world proving the power of Kyokugenryu Karate. He appeared in South Town and in Japan, during the Buriki One '99 Tokyo tournament.
    Mr. Karate variant of Ryo was only playable in Maximum Impact series’ games. Ryo’s canonical promotion as Mr. Karate eventually started in the New Age Saga.

      @@IrishKyokushincurrently there are two separate fighting game timelines. The first is what I like to call the 'Southtownverse' which is AoF, FF and Buriki 1. You could also argue that Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter are part of this timeline since these two games are set in a distopian far future Southtown.
      The second timeline is the KOFverse where all the KOF games fall under, plus other IPs that has not yet become permanent KOF fixture like Metal Slug and Samsho.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 26 дней назад

      @@antz32 Yep. Then what we still have to see is if Oda actually is determined to respect the existing lore 100%... or if he is willing to make some old lore changes/retcons to fit his vision for the franchise in this context of a revival that is a direct sequel. I mean, if the FF does well and SNK allows sequels, Oda will have to handle this MOTW/future from now on, that will be the actual "standard FF story"... like any anime time skip arc. So maybe some retcons would be welcome for the sake of the story continuation.
      Like, for now i still havent made my mind in advance about my own tolerance with retcons if they happen. Maybe i would just judge the retcon depending on what it is, rather than having a generalized positive/negative statement.
