This event has definitely highlighted how a community can come together.Spivey can be just as dangerous as beautiful . I am glad Spruce Pine got you fixed up.
Wanted to let you know the road you call lower pig pen is actually Jack’s Creek. I live in Green Mountain on the Mitchell county side near Relief ext. Pig Pen is on 197 going towards Burnsville.
I took (Lower Pig Pen to Long Branch to Toe River Rd... It is actually Long Branch. I think we are splitting hairs. Jack Creeks is further down on Toe River Rd. I have fished that river and grew up here.
I took off work for the week of November 23-30th. Where do I go to offer my help? I’m an able bodied man willing to do whatever needed to help! Personally, who do you think I should go to, to offer my help?
25'Therefore is the anger of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them; and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
@@HighCountryRocks was talking on the phone EARLY this morning, told my friend Cheri just above Chattanooga I'd like to ride back up there and look around. But it would be a painful ride because of the memories made there with my late wife and seeing the destruction..................
I would give it a couple months. I can explain how bad the roads are. It is just crushed gravel at best on rivers. I doubt anything will change in the next year except for hazards to travel and communities.
@@HighCountryRocks if I still lived in Johnson City, I'd be doing SOMETHING to help the locals...........my heart goes out for / to them.............winter is coming on, when in TN I provided TONS of free firewood. That is what I could be doing right now. Cutting, splitting and stacking FREE
the late wife and I VERY often motorcycled there, always stopped there for a Cheriwine drink ! Something I had never HEARD of. The lady there was a tan fanatic. Sure hope she wasn't caught bicycling to or from the general store, anyone KNOW ?

Wrecked my motorcycle in Yancey County after crossing Spivey Mountain '03. Great place, great people.

just up from the general store was an island. Every now and then, the wife and I would see a DEER on that island ! Is the island still THERE ?
I didn't notice any islands left. Pretty much everything is now flat without big rocks.
