      I travel this road on many occasions & used to live off of BALD MOUNTAIN ROAD. I'd go over McKinney Gap and then go around the River to go home. I ALWAYS called the store Guy's Store & will miss it & the little Rock Building where people could get a hair cut across from Guys. This breaks my heart but I've lifted up so many PRAYERS for those we lost, those who lost their homes & the destruction of one of the most PEACEFUL & BEAUTIFUL ROADS you could travel. My heart breaks for you. I’m so sorry this happened to you and your neighbors. We’ve been praying for you since the hurricane. Living in New Orleans, we’ve experienced hurricanes. (My roof was ripped off and ceiling and floors destroyed). BUT what you and North Carolina went through was much worse than Katrina, Rita, and Ida. Our Lord helped us recover and rebuild…I know that He will do the same for you and North Carolina. God Bless you!

      I was there in 2005, 25 days after Katrina, when I crossed over into LA from TX. I had never seen such destruction until now. Thank you for your comments and support.

    I’m so sorry for everyone who has lost everything, including loved ones, during Helene. My heart breaks for you all. If I was in a position to donate or volunteer, I’d be there in a heartbeat. Sadly I cannot, but I can watch as many of these videos and subscribe to the survivors channels in the hope that it’ll help generate a little income for you. Sending love and hope for better days to come, from Arkansas.

    I live several miles down the road and higher up. We just had trees down. I’ve been in this community helping at Bee Log and along your creek. This video is helpful to give some perspective. There’s a sgt major Kite from Candler that was at Bee Log, he was telling Chrissy RN he would like to connect with you. Good man. I hope it’s to help.

    • @the32712
      @the32712 29 дней назад

      It wasn't possible to prep for it much. The only prep was to have a house on high ground. Our house is 80ft above a creek. The creek is usually 6 inches deep and 6 feet wide.
      That little creek swelled to 10ft deep and 50ft wide. All we could do was move our livestock up the hill.

    Retired geographer here:
    I am glad you crossed over to the other side when you did, and am sorry to see so much of your life's work destroyed.
    * We cannot take the 100- 200- 1000-year-flood designations seriously anymore, because these were derived from sedimentary sampling and represent info from an era with a cooler climate and minimal human land use interventions, such as deforestation, farming, drainage-ditch construction.
    * I have seen professionally copious convincing data that the atmosphere is warming due to the influx of CO2. As a consequence, much larger and more frequent storms and flooding are coming. It's inevitable, unfortunately.
    * Furthermore, that valley doesn't have a floodplain, which indicates that the river is still in a down-cutting phase.
    It is not a safe place for erecting river-side buildings, especially on the cut-bank side, where your house was. The outside curves are where erosion is always the worst.
    * I don't know about the geologic stability in that valley and how expensive it would be to build a stable, well anchored house foundation a little ways up the hillside, nor how much of a landslide risk you'd face on the uphill if you cut too deeply and try to level off a house site.
    * Before deciding whether to rebuild or not, I advise talking with impartial advisors on the advisability of rebuilding. Also, Google river erosion mechanics as well as slope erosions.
    Finally, please work with FEMA and disregard the politics being played to turn folks against it. At least hear them out.

    🙏😭🙏😭🇺🇸 Dear Sir, I am so so sorry for all of your losses. I’m so sorry you have experienced this historic catastrophic heartbreaking disaster. I just returned yesterday from delivering supplies and volunteering in NC. I thought I was mentally, physically and emotionally depleted from seeing the destruction and devastation from an in person boots on the ground perspective….but this video was on a whole different level. Watching your video documentation of your loss, imagining I’m standing there seeing it with you in disbelief, rewinding the video several times to make sure I saw what I saw & didn’t see because it is just gone…..has left me even more humbled! This video is proof that all we have is our life and health. We should not get attached to things and stuff. The things and the stuff can be replaced. I’m at a complete loss for how to feel or react. Your ability to hold yourself together and remain composed while recording this video is absolutely amazing. We will all donate and help you rebuild. You are great at building things and using your hands. Again, I’m sorry you lost your lovely bridge, house and truck. I hope your goats are okay. Wishing you the absolute best. Sending good vibes, good energy, love, hugs and prayers. 🙏😭🙏💝🤗🇺🇸

With that attitude you will rebuild .. life rolls on. We can't move on looking back. All we can do is gain knowledge, and use it moving forward. God bless, and best wishes. I will donate.
