- Shin Kazamatsuri, a young motorcycle racer, volunteers to be the test subject for his scientist father Daimon’s cellular research project. Shortly after, Shin sees himself turning into a murderous, bloodthirsty monster in his dreams. The research is not what it seems-the laboratory chief, Iwao Himuro, has been less than trustworthy, and the mysterious entity known as the Organization lurks behind the scenes… Shin has memories of the bizarre string of murders, but is he really the serial killer?

Either way, both film is what Ishinomori sensei ideal are, but 1992 definitely a bit easy to swallow
the whole concept of Shin always reminds me of the manga version of Kamen Rider Black, from the transformation down to the plot itself
I can’t say the same for this movie. It meant well but wasn’t even close to the Black Manga as it was just a snore fest and we didn’t get to see the Rider in action till half way to the movie and it was as brief as Janet Jackson flashing in the Super Bowl.
If I written the movie it would explain every dramatic aspect and within 25 minutes the Rider action would slowly develop and also, I would hint more of a shadow terrorist groupt similar to Shocker and it would actually have three-four monsters for Shin to go up against. In the short round we got what we got and it isn’t really memorable as Black or ZO.

Not Superhero Senki because the suit was deteriorated and in poor condition to perform. Where you being to realize they been using a mannequin after rewatching Superhero Senki the second time.
One of the best transformations in the franchise. Shin is a creature feature that returned in Amazons and Black Sun but they still don't compare.

It is the R Rated version of Masked Rider. With this mixture of body horror like The Fly, Scanner, Species and Tetsuo, this is the most violent, tragic and darkest Masked Rider movie ever.

Finally glad to have watched this. Shin is under appreciated; it would be nice if in some future crossover movie or special, they decide to follow up on what’s been going on in Shin’s world since then.

@@samboq933 the rubber used in costumes/puppets/props rots over time through a bunch of different ways. They could make a new Shin costume but by now the original one has decayed away.

I feel like this was heavily inspired by Guyver. The way Shin painfully transforms, the overall look of Kamen Rider, the way he grabs the villain’s face to crush it, and the spikes in his arm to behead his enemy.

This is totally different from the child friendly Kamen Riders we have these days. It's Brutally awesome! I miss this kind of tokustasu. The story, the practical effects are one of the best! Kudos toei! Fan here from the Philippines!
I wouldn't call recent Kamen Riders as child friendly. They scattered few adult-centric themes in some of the series. Kiva is a soap drama and has the second main character a playboy and also a Fangire queen cheats on her husband; Build is a war-centric story, that has plenty of betrayals and killings; Zero One teach people to not succumb to darkness; Gaim has a lot of killings and crushing; OOO has tons of betrayals going on; Being gory, bloody and sexual are not the only factors that make a Kamen Rider series an adult-centric show. If you take out all these three things from Shin, it is literally a low budget C movie that has a boring and underdeveloped plotline, that was released as a a home video format.

@Paul 폴 So you are telling me showa kaijins look badass? You must be dreaming. They look even more plastic than Heisei and Reiwa monsters. I am talking more about the story, it is most definitely not kid friendly as much as you want it to be, not compared to the Showa era series. Except for Ichigo, V3, Shin, ZO and J, the other Showa series are pretty cringe to look at and that includes your beloved Black and RX too, no cap. However, I do agree that Heisei and Reiwa past Ryuuki are made mostly to sell toys, thus the gimmicky toys to appeal little boys.

Wow! Shin really is interesting. I wanna see more of it! Especially the future showdown between Shin and the two faction that are after him.
While the movie is dark, Shin himself is still a kamen rider in my eyes and opinion. With how he still retain his humanity and never gives up on it.
This was an amazing watch and I'm glad that I got to see it. It's way better than what I heard about it implied and if it had been around on VHS in Canada I would have broken the tape watching it over and over and pushing it at others!
Na minha opinião, este é um dos melhores Kamen Riders que existe por vários motivos:
1) Não tem poderes como o Rider Kick ou algum outro ou até mesmo armas e acessórios. O cara vai na porrada bruta mesmo!
2) Muita gente fala das armaduras dos Riders, mas pra mim, é assim que um Rider deveria ser. Ficou algo muito mais "dark" e agressivo. Deu um ar de "maturidade". Eu acho que ao invés de um Rider ser um andróide (como o Kotaro Minami), ele poderia ser que nem o Shin, um mutante. Poderia até ter o cinto com a King Stone pra se transformar, mas sendo um mutante ao invés de um andróide.
3) Achei super interessante o Shin ter o poder de cura/regeneração que nem o Wolverine! Isso aí foi genial! O cara que inventou o Shin e teve essa ideia está de parabéns!
O poder telepático de se comunicar também é um diferencial. Achei muito legal o próprio filho do Shin se comunicando com ele pedindo por socorro.
4) O Shin merece ser adaptado ao Riders de hoje (por mais que ele já tenha aparecido rapidamente atualmente com outros Riders). Poderia ter um filme, série ou até mesmo um Cross Over com ele. Esse personagem tem MUITO potencial!
5) Esse ar "dark" que o Shin possui me lembra muito do Kamen Rider Black. Há muitas semelhanças. Gostaria muito de ver um dia o Shin junto com o Black ou o RX!
6) DEVERIA ter a continuação deste filme com o filho do Shin sendo um novo Rider ou então o seu sucessor. imagine um Rider com poderes telepáticos? Ia ser de muito legal! Olhem o vídeo em 1:08:42.

I'm not too familiar with Kamen Rider but this version of him was pretty awesome! Despite some pacing and editing issues it was well done, it also reminded me of a combination of The Fly and The Guyver. I'll definitely check out the new film that will be released as well. Thanks for sharing Toei!

I mean in all seriousness I love horror movies and this was kinda mix of horror and superhero combined I loved it also this is my first time watching kamen rider..although I know the kamen riders doesn't look like this one...seen some clips on RUclips looks like sentais but different...anyway this was my first time watching kamen rider..and I seriously enjoyed it...the blood and gore was the best part of the whole movie..

Dang, I think this movie deserves a bit more love. Severely underrated.
I can only imagine the confusion of lifelong Kamen Rider fans as this was something completely different in terms of tone, and direction.
Id honestly welcome it, some dark stuff for the adults. Kamen rider has always been of those ips with fairly kid gloves shows (with a few exceptions) and occasionally darker movies mixed in. Least the vibe I get after almost 2 years of binging through the content that I fell in love with.
This original concept of mask rider inspired the author of the guyver manga.Pity it became kid/toy friendly and is now just another guy in power up suit. Suddenly wondered did that guyver manga ever reach an end? So long ago.....

Shotaro's first Kamen Rider concept was an insectoid mutant. The grasshopper motif was chosen by his son, while the final version was a heavily edited one.

It's not bad.... I had heard that it was a lot worse at first.. Still better than Amazons if your in the mood for some darker Rider stuff.

Very interesting to get to know this darker side of Kamen Rider. I watched Black Sun recently and I always hear that this is creator Ishimori's vision. I grew up with Kamen Rider Black and it marked my childhood. I still consider it the best of all, but Shin is very interesting as well as Black Sun. I believe there is a Kamen Rider for every person and every generation.
