Remo - Possibly the greatest martial arts and action movie of all time!!

  • Jaw dropping stunts, a mind blowing 'single scene' training montage and watch out of the boss kill move - if throwing him over the car like wasn't enough the fire stick sure does finish him off.. EPIC!!!! Remo was an under rated and underground Stallone.

    The dialogue between Chuin in Remo is the best part of the movie.
    Chuin (looking at food Remo brought home): "It would be better for you to eat this can than what is inside it".

      Chiun : It would be better for you to eat this can than what is inside of it. Why must everything in this country be coated with monositi-... monosoti...
      Remo Williams : Monosodium glutamate. You can't even say it.
      Chiun : I can say "rat droppings." That does not mean I want to eat them.

That is the same Walter Murphy who later wrote the screenplay for "Lethal Weapon". Number of books in the series reached slightly above a hundred. Pretty much a knock-off of Ian Fleming's 007 adventure franchise. Criminals, Secret Agents, Terrorists, Mad scientists would acquire a 'McGuffin' in the first half which would threaten the country or the world. CURE would then send in Remo to investigate and terminate the parties as required. Sometimes Chiun would accompany him. The primary appeal, besides the gratuitous violence, was the camaraderie and bickering between the Master and his reluctant student.

    Laughed when I saw it, may not be as good as the series but still good. The series is called 'The Destroyer' for those who were wondering, it started in the 70s - though the time line was in the early 60s. The dialogue between Chiun and Remo in the books are hilarious.

      Spiritual Indeed ! Watching the real Master of Masters was an experience I will never forget & being honored by him choosing to knock me out rather than kill me was awesome. If anyone thinks that The Master of Masters is just a martial arts myth , They're wrong ! I saw him & The New Master is just as awesome as the The Ancient One whom passed away but looked very much like Joel. Makeup & wardrobe must've had the Ancient One on-set during production. Don't tell The Ancient One that I called him that. I'm sure that even in Heaven he could give me pain in endless measure just joking around . It'll be great seeing the 2 Masters I know & perhaps some of the others when I return to Heaven ; this time forever & not just a visit during trauma event.

    This was derived from a series. In it, Chiun is reluctantly hired to train a person (Fred Ward) in a rather obscure Korean martial art. As the books in the series progress, they remain apparently antagonistic, but Remo eventually calls Chiun "Little Father." The person of Remo Williams doesn't exist because he was originally a cop, framed for murder and given the needle - except that the juice wasn't fatal. Just like that, they have an operative who doesn't exist. I forget how many volumes there were in the series, but I'm sure more than 15. Let's here it for Sinanju, one of the deadliest martial arts ever known. However, I suspect that there was a pushback for having Joel Grey in Korean makeup and drag and fake accent. This movie was shot in an era when a Korean character wasn't necessarily portrayed by a Korean actor.

      It's based on the book(s) The Destroyer by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir. There are currently 112 books. I started reading them back in the early 70's when I was in HS and have read 80+. They never get old. 🙂

    • @LisaLiel
      @LisaLiel Год назад +6

      @@USNCBSLIXXX I'm sorry... "rather obscure Korean martial art"?! Sinanju is the sun source of all martial arts. Eventually, Sapir died and Murphy stopped writing them. They got a ghost writer and continued the series, which was never as good after that. Murphy and his wife Molly Cochran wrote two books that were basically, "What if the Destroyer series was serious?" called Grandmaster and Grandmaster II: something or other.
