The song is about drug use the first part is when your searching for a fix then it hits that slow melody like you just got high then you're left wanting more so the hard part comes back and the entire time it's the drug that's controlled you the puppet and the drug is the puppet master

I was rooting for ya man. I really was lol. I was sooo rooting for you to get the full meaning of the song on the 1st listen. Don't feel bad tho.. as not everyone does.
I am sure someone probably beat me to this.. but the song is about addiction.. specifically addition to drugs. The main hint is the 'chop your breakfast on a mirror' verse.
The song is structured to be speaking from the point of view of the drug itself (the master) taunting the addict. The middle section switches to the point of view of the addict.. speaking back to the drug/master... then switches back to the point of view of the drug/addiction as it now 'rules' the addict.
Either way.. glad ya liked the song. ;)
    Peace

You weren't kidding multi purpose channel lol.... Bill Burr, George Carlin, Louis CK, Metallica, Eminem etc... so much greatness.
I love how Metallica's music is judged fairly nowadays, back then they were considered satanic/evil lol. Also i noticed how you hip-hop fans seem to truly appreciate the seamless and numerous transitions when reacting to, for example, Metallica and System of a Down. Great reaction to this masterpiece!
by the way the song is about drug addiction and the middle softer part where you were wondering if it was the same song would represent the part where a drug addict would get his fix.
''Metallica - One'' next, it's been done a lot, for good reasons, i suggest just a lyrics video. There's also an official video but it's busier. You should read the backstory if you do the clip or you'll spend half the video wondering what it's about.

@@charleshendrix3137 Actually, "Sucking darkest clear" refers to the darkness of the straw or dollar bill when snorting a line of coke. "Taste me you will see" also does this, because the way you ensure that you're getting actual coke and not powdered sugar was to dip the very tip of your finger into it and tap it on your tongue - if it went numb, you had the real deal. It could, however, also reference alcohol, which is why Metallica's lyrics are so fucking incredible. It could be used in any fashion, truly, but if you look up the specs on the song, you'll see wtf Metallica was talking about in reference to this song.

"chop your breakfast on a mirror" means chopping up your cocaine on a mirror for breakfast because it is an appetite suppressant and it is the first thing you think about in the morning when you're an addict. "come crawling faster. obey your master (cocaine). your life burns faster." then it goes into "all i see is laughter. laughing at my cries (withdrawing). FIX ME!!! Dude they used to do that for 3 fn hours on stage!!! And I loved all 180 minutes of it!
Your reactions are genuine and awesome and you got me as a subscriber, dude. Great video. The song is about drug addiction. The Master being the addiction. The Notes and bit you "liked and really felt" that's the part of the song that represented the euphoric high from the fix, hence the smooth relaxed psychadelic feel. Then it gets all jumpy and angst sounding as the effects are wearing off and the feigning starts and he yells "FIX ME". I think you were starting to figure it out when you pointed out the "Chop breakfast on a mirror" bit, but you were distracted by the camera out of focus.
Your face and wide eyes was golden when that Kirk came in with that solo after the bridge. But dude - never pause the solo!! You remember when Smokey told Craig - "you're fn up the rotation You can get killed with somebody else!" Well that's like guitar solos and us metal heads. Dont fk up the rotation! LOL.

Pull Me under is okay, it's a decent song but I don't think really shows what DT is about overall. I think one of their best songs, period, and one that's still not too crazy with the prog structure and odd times / noodling, is Home. Unique sound (other than the Tool influence), incredible vocals, harmony, sick soloing, Home has it all.

@@Tesserex first song I heard by them was panick attack, but my first true introduction to DT was six degrees of inner turbulence, the glass prison hooked me in.

pull me under was my intro to DT. its their most easily digestable song imo, so its a good place to start. you cant just jump right into songs like the dance of eternity or octavarium. panic attack is another good intro song.

Fantastic reaction vid. You like those notes because they’re in harmony, it’s quite pleasing to the ear. The line “chop your breakfast on a mirror” I would have thought was an obvious line to drug abuse. The whole song revolves around that. Keep listening! Great video.

Came here for your AK reactions a while back, but I'm mostly a geetar guy tbh, so it's nice to see you giving new stuff a try. :)
If you tend towards lyrics, coming from a hiphop background, I'll say this.... you really need to convince your brain to switch from importance of lyrics in the majority of rock/metal etc, to the instrumentation & how that makes you feel- basically there are no bars here! (there are exceptions, but not that many). If you like the bounce in old school boombap hiphop or decent R&B, there are geetar bands who go for maximum groove which you'd probably enjoy more than the likes of Metallica & Megadeth. Although having said that, you *must* give Megadeth's "Holy Wars" a listen- it's Epic!! LOL

A few others have beat me to it, but the puppet master in the song is a drug. The whole song is about drug addiction, with the drug being the master and the addicted person being the master's puppet or slave. Musically it goes through stages with the hard and heavy points symbolizing the chaotic need to find a fix, and the calm euphoric portion in the middle being the ride of the high. Classic song. Glad you enjoyed it!

I’m glad you started with some old Metallica instead of the newer stuff. Next, PANTERA “This Love” or “Fucking Hostile”! Then Megadeth “Holy Wars” or “Hanger 18”! That would be a good start for you into the genre!

The best part of Metallica is they never stoped going heavy. They are on the back side of 50 years old and the new album is insane. Gotta do “spit out the bone” or “atlas rise” off the new album. Live versions are the best to watch. Metallica is always at the best live.
